Default MOBIL DTE LIGHT - OPINIONS

Hello

I am just wondering how many are using Mobil DTE LIGHT as turbine oil. I have been using Aeroshell 500 in Jet Cat - Jet Central - Modellbau turbines. Is this oil safe for use ? What % ? ( 5 % ) I woul like to have opinions of the users.

Regards

Celso

Great stuff...I have been using it for several years. Non-carcinogenic, crystal clear, non-staining, less expensive. Get it at McMaster-Carr. Using it at 5%.

Hello Vincent

Have you been using it at 5%? Any issues or reports after your motors have been serviced? I mean any reports regarding coking or other problems?
Thanks

I've run it at 5% in my Jet Central's and Jetcats. I haven't reached the service interval yet with any of them though. Most I have is about 15hrs on a Cheetah. No issues so far. If I didn't have the one Jetcat left, I would go to a good 2T oil at 2%

Vincent

Any reports regarding coking or bearing problems after your motors have been back service?

Thanks

After over 20 hours of DTE lite this P-120 looks nice and very clean.

I run 5% mix and no reports from service of coking or bearings wearing prematurely.

Mike,
Jetcentral does recommend 5% oil if using DTE lite in their engines (instead of the 2.5%)

OK, very good news. It seems to burn as clean as ``conventional`` turbine oils. Any news regarding health issues? Is DTE less toxic than turbine oils?

Good news. Here in Brazil one quart of Aeroshell 500 costs around US$ 30. Mobil DTE in 5 galons costs US$ 117. It is a huge difference in terms of costs.
Does DTE mixes well with JET A? Any issues regarding separation after some time?

DTE mixes well, does not separate. But I still shake my fueler anyways when I get to the field. I started using it this year after using a lot of jet mobil II.
The only thing I notice is it is smokier, I get more smoke on shutdown and also random puffs of smoke during idle.
Also for some reason my turbines are louder with DTE light. My kingtech with jet mobil II is so soft in the air I cant hear it. Now she has a nice turbine sound.

Not sure if that makes sense but I swear it is louder! During cool down it sounds normal though.

Joey, spoke with Chuang and was about to respond your other post, the random puffs may have everything to do with the uncombusted fuel/oil mixture from the lubrication channel and may also have direct link with the use of DTE, perhaps the reason that the bearing has a higher tint than using KingTech oil upon interval services.

Barry

Does you turbine rpm and temperature are the same with DTE and conventional turbine oils? What should make your turbine be louder with DTE?

Yes should all be the same, and I never heard that the turbine would be louder with DTE, or are you referring to bearing noise during cool down being louder?

Barry

Hello Barry

Essyou35 has said that his turbine seems to be louder when running with DTE. That is the reason i have asked about his turbine rpm and tempreadings when running. Another question Barry, did yougetany reports regarding bearings failure or coking with customers using DTE ?
Regards

I have been running Mobile DTE on everything over past few years ... Jetcat P120, P200, PH3T, Simjet Nexus, JetCentral Rhino, and a Jafadofsky Pro . I have a KingTech 180 i have not ran yet, but i don't see what that would be any different. All engines rune great with exhaust that is a lot less carcinogenic .. I have not noticed any differences in temps, rpm, performance, noise, etc .

There is no need for "turbine" oil in our jets. Aeroshel 500 and the like are not designed to be mixed with fuel or to be burned up anyway. Hen only thing that matters is if the oil burns clean. Mobile DTE sure seems to. Even if the mfg indicates to use only aeroshell or similar, i refuse to risk my health more than necessary. Its actually a purchasing factor for some people on what engine they buy!

Hello Wojtek

That sounds great. My big concern is about health issues with turbine oils been burned. Also here in Brazil we have very high costs with turbine oils , around US$ 33 a quart of turbine oil X US$ 117 for five galons of DTE. As you have been using it for years and no problems at all seems to be the best opions nowadays.

Spoke to Essyou just now, we both determined that the loudness probably had nothing to do with oil used. We did have a couple of reports with DTE related bearing failure, but more reports with good results. As with coking, it isn't as clean as KingTech oil, but much cleaner than a turbine oil.

Barry
