RE: Sig Spacewalker II 1/4 scale
Nice fitting of the exhaust to the cowl. Have you made provisions to get cooling air into and out of the cowl yet? I have a 1/4 SW by Seagull Models, and I put a large hole in the bottom of the cowl with a fitted opening in front of the cylinder below the spinner. I only have a 22 cc gas engine.
I am planning to build the 1/3 Sig SW, so I am following your build closely! Nice work so far.

I knew I was going to take a hit on that one! Cliff...
Littlera, I will be doing the same on the front of my cowl as well to get some cool air past the cylinder. I don't need to worry about creating any more air exit openings as there is plenty between where the exhaust exits and the gap between the cowl and firewall (on the bottom).
The laminations turned out very well. The photos show the glue-up for the rudder, you can see more clamps were used. Once the clamps are removed the laminations do not move off the profile of the template. With a little clean-up they will work just fine.
Note: I forgot to mention that I placed some clear packing tape along the edges of my template. This prevents you from accidently gluing your laminations to the template as glue always drips from the strips onto your template.

I would welcome the visit Cliff. Haven't gotten the back to school schedule as of yet so I don't know when I have to go back to work, but we can work around that. Let me know...
Great idea Gary!

Thought I would show you the progress that I have made thus far with the stabilizer and elevator. I still have some blocking to put in and the hinges to install, but it's pretty close. I have to make a trip to the LHS and pick-up some balsa to complete it. Sig sometimes uses some oddball sizes that are difficult to get your hands on...
I took a photo of the plans so you can see the joints that I have eliminated by going with a lamination. OK need to make a road trip!

Dave, I used seven 1/2" x 1/16" balsa strips for my laminations. The finished thickness (height) was 5/16" after sanding. Sig uses some really odd thickness balsa on some of their stuff, and this was one of them...
David, thanks but the reasons I include the photos of the glue are to show what glue I used for that part of construction and to show how much glue I have used in total in the build. (If you look carefully you will see the glue level through the bottle.)

Damn, went down to the LHS to buy one 3/8" x4" balsa plank, and I came home with almost $300.00 worth of stuff...LOL [X(]
When I arrived back in the shop I used the balsa to fill in a few areas on the elevator that I thought it should have. You can see where I plan on placing the 3/16" Robart Hinge Point hinges. I still need to add the hinge blocking but I'm pretty close to getting started on the rudder.

Impulse buys! Always take a shopping list and don't stray from it. (My tip for the day)
Looks mighty fine! Uh.... you mind if I ask what else you came home with...? Just being nosy. [:-]

I bought two servos for the rudder and elevator. Now I have all the servos I need to complete this project. Still need to buy an IBEC.

VJ: I have been following this thread and I must say, you have inspired me to finish my SWII that I started about a year ago. I completed the fuselage and tail feathers but stalled because...and now I'm admitting it...built 2 right wings...yep I did! And I didn't even realize it until I went to join the halves together. I was pretty upset with myself but purchased a wing kit from SIG anyway. By the time I received it, I had moved on to another project and the SWII got pushed back! So thanks again for the inspiration...let's just hope I don't make 2 left wings this time!

Hey M Build 2 left wings and make it a bipe! LOL. Nice work VJ, and I never payed no mind to the glue bottle thing had to go look. I do it too!!! I'm down about 5oz on my current build, never kept track before. The laminations turned out great and you are correct. It is one of the best ways to do the perimeter, stronger and cleaner. Keep it up buddy!!!

M, we all make mistakes...look at your mistake as an opportunity now to have two wings. Maybe one as a back-up. I'm glad that you're back to work on it! Post some pictures here if you like.
Thanks Robert. It was more work, but I think I ended up with a better product for sure.

Absolutely a better product, it looks so much better than the original! My only question would be weight; do you think you've added much? Whatever you add to the tail, you'll have to add that much to the nose.

Looking good VJ,
I am slowly working on the Decathalon ARF for by friend. My back shots only made me feel better for 2-3 days and my back is back to where it was before the shots[:@] Very disappointing to say the least.
Later!!
Anthony
BTW: I know what you mean about impulse buys, went to the H/S to find a replacement for my Contender and bought myself an ARF and my grandson and RTF foamie and was $500 lighter in the wallet without realizing what happened.

Murphy, I, for one, am glad when people admit stuff like that, it makes me feel normal. I have set 2 builds aside because of stupid mistakes and never got back to them. I need to dig back in a correct my mistakes and move on. Both were planes worth building at one point, and they still are, but sometimes frustration gets the better of us.
Get back at it, and good luck. Your not alone!
LOL.
Dave
P.S. Vincent, I am glad to know others end up spending more than they intended too. At least you got stuff to complete this build, instead of buying another kit.......... (I have been known to do that).
