Hay Steve,
The P-38 is an awesome aircraft and a very complex model to build R/C. I must have 5 lbs. of wires alone in my model...at least it seem I do. The P-38 is notorious for single engine out of control issues. Every one of the models I've witnessed...in time lost an engine...and unfortunately, every time...they had an uncontrolled very hard landing. You need two bullet proof engines on board and a keen set of thumbs on the Transmitter. Anyone that can keep a R/C P-38 alive and well, has to be a suburb modeler and proficient on the sticks. I'll also add...have a bit of good luck.
Soft Landings Always,
Bobby of Maui

Has anyone found a way to eliminate the rudder coupling? I think one fellow used anhedral instead of flat or dihedral with good sucess.

I know. That's actually the only reason I don't have a twin yet. With only a few years of flying under my belt, I know I'm not ready to throw away that kind of money, time, and sweat. Hell, I sometimes have a hard enough time just keeping my more simple planes in one piece. Don't mean I don't want one though. Thanks for the advice, I think I'll take it. Steve.

Find yourself a twin and go for it! Nothing sounds as nice as a twin on a high speed low flyby!! Doesn't matter what engines are in them either!
My 3rd plane was a Pica Duelest, Still have it after almost 30 years too!
The Hobbico Twinstar is a good way to get started before getting something that will use two gas engines...

I put my DLE 20 in a funtana 125, with a 17 x 6 XOAR. With the wind and weather I only been able to fly it twice.

Haven't owned a Super Chipmunk in over 20 years but it was always my favorite plane. I am about to build another one. The Carl Goldberg .60 size kit. I was originally going to install the evolution 10cc engine, then I was thinking the evolution 15cc and now after doing research on engine weight I am considering the dle 20cc. I know its a .60 sized plane and the 20cc is obviously overkill but my question is, will it work? I am just looking for it to be gas powered and reliable. I already own a dle 35 in my Pilot Rc Edge 540 and love it. Any advice? Or am I plain nuts? LOL
Thanks in advance,
Alvin

Hi Guys
I have a few DLE20.
Lovely motor, reliable with good performance, run in on 16X8 Xoar prop, once run in done replaced by 17X6 Xoar, all use a mounting plate available from Seaplane Supply (link below)
http://www.seaplanesupply.com/aluminum.htm
You will also need to replace the throttle lever with one CNC Alloy Throttle Arm for Gas Engines
available from Hobbyking (link below)
http://www.hobbyking.com/hobbyking/s...dProduct=21299
The DLE 20s are mounted on the following
1 on a VQ Cap 10B (Ideal match)
1 on a Pilot RC T90 (Bags of FUN on every flight) can be upgraded to DLE 30 as mounting plate matches DLE 20 to DLE 30 mounting points
1 on a Seagull Ultimate 120 (Ideal match)
1 on a Seagull Yak 54 (Ideal match)
And I am planning to fit 2 on a ASM Grumman F7F Tigercat
and another 1 on a Seagull Dewotine D520

I have one on a sig CAP 231 EX 120. It sport flies it just fine, but a 30 or 35 would do it a great justice. I also have a top flite corsair and seagull super decathlon that both have 20's and are both rocket ships. Awesome little gasser. No complaints.

Steve,
the sig CAP 231 EX is an arf Sig made for a while isnt it? I have one and am planning a DLE30 install.
By any chance do you have any pics of your engine setup?
You can send them to me at mr_avt@yahoo DOT com to keep this forum on topic...
Thanks,
Bill S.

Hey twin flyer, yes, that's the one. I think you'll really like it with the 30 on it. It's got almost unlimited vert with the 20, but just not enough. Of course, you'll have to open up the bottom of the cowl like mine, but I'm sure you knew that. Also, there's plenty of room behind the firewall for batteries, and throttle and choke servos if you choose.have fun with it, Steve.

If they have under rated the engine requirements like they often do it might work fine. I think I would post a question in the kit or aerobatic forum (or where else, anyone?) about what engine others have used to get the right power to weight and balance. You need to look at the all up weight of this plane and how it would balance with the DLE 20 up there. The good news is that most 60's weight as much as more as the 90's do, and the DLE 20 weighs barely more than most 90's.

if you do a search on RCU there is a thread on the TWM Super Chippy ARF and there are a few flying with the DLE20 with no issues. Also, the Airborne Models/TWM Super Chippy ARF seems to be a true copy of the CG design!

The Chipmunk you're talking about (I think?) is 64", just under 700 sq in, and 6-8 lbs (maybe a little more with the 20?). My experience would say this is going to make for a plane with fairly heavy wing loading, similar to a lot of the military stuff? That's just a guess though. Wouldn't argue the point until flying one.
These are the specs I'm using:

I installed a new DLE20 RA rear exhaust engine in my old Hanger 9 PT-19 last week and flew it a bunch of times this weekend. The little engine ran like a champ right out of the box. About 20% more power than the Magnum 1.20 4-stroke glow engine it replaced, I would guess. I used a Valley View 17x6 prop and Pennzoil at 32/1 as recommended by Valley View.
I will be using one of these in my new Hanger 9 Tiger Moth in a month or so. This is the perfect engine for narrow cowled planes.

Hi Guys,
I just ordered a 20cc gas powered Gee Bee R3 and I will use a RCG 20 in the airframe. I've experience with two RCG 20's and really happy with this gas engine. I had these originally mounted in a Big Stick ..60 ~ .90 ARF. There was a learning curve for me in running this engine, for they were my first gas engines. Once I figured out how to tune the carb's...life got a whole lot better for me. Great Power and received my best power, with a Xoar 17x6. I also used a Master Air Screw 16x10 with good results and I be using a 16x10 with the R3. I already have a Pitts style muffler for this engine and a Roto 16 oz. fuel tank.
The model came from General Hobbies and I was told it shipped out five day's ago.
Soft Landings Always,

Thanks for all the replies guys. After your comments and further research I believe it will work. I am also considering moving the elevator and rudder servos to the tail of the plane like they are in several of the planes I own now. I believe this will help the plane to balance out without having to add any additional weight.
