It's never to late to put the servos in the tail
good luck

I have a P51 that should have a 60 2 stroke in it but it has an OS 70 4 stroke... I ended up adding 3 oz of lead to the tail.
No one notices and the plane flies GREAT!
The key point here is to add as little weight as possible to balance the plane, so add it as far back on the plane as you can (think back to grade eight science and the fulcrum)
Happy Landings!

RE: Midwest AT-6 Overhaul
anyone still out there with a MW AT-6 ?
I bought an as new kit in April this year, looked like it just left the factory, everything bagged and in perfect condition.
Built the tail, wings, wing center section then started popping out all the formers, stringers etc and oops, not fuselage top [:@]
It is about 36 1/2" long and @ 4 1/2" wide and is 3mm ply all cut out to take the formers, also has the tail plate on it also, page 5 in manual part number 33103
Does anyone have (a) one of these parts (yes I know it is very unlikely) or (b) have an unbuild kit that they can trace out the part and send me a copy of it so i can make the part.
I will pay a good price for this if any one can help.
I may end up having to find another full kit just to get this part as it is not shown in detail on the plans.
Help !!!

RE: Midwest AT-6 Overhaul
I have not flown my at6 yet but hope to soon. I don't have tracing for the die cut parts but I'm sure somebody does.
warjet, I could use the cowl but my retracts are ok at this time. After I fly it they might need replacing.

The Robarts are pretty stout,, I never had an issue with mine

I've got Robarts in mine too and I must agree, they are very well made. If you manage to break the Robart gear then chances are pretty good there won't be a lot left of the rest of the airplane!

RE: Midwest AT-6 Overhaul
So the AT-6 flew tonight thanks to my son who was at the controls. The plane took off good and picked up speed fast. Once of the ground he flipped the retract switch but nothing happened. The plane was flying ok but was a bit squirrel Kyle stayed with it and the gear finely came up after many attempts. The plane settled down with the gear up and the rest of the flight went well. We were concerned when it was time to land because of the problems we had getting the gear up but the gear came down without an issue. On the first landing attempt the plane bounced too high so a go around was needed. It was a good thing the G26 had the power needed to get the plane back up to speed. The second landing went much better and the plane rolled to a stop. We were both glad to get our first WWII plane up and flying without a major problem. Kyle also maiden his balsa USA 1/4 Fokker D8. The plane flew ok but needs more power.

RE: Midwest AT-6 Overhaul
Took my AT-6 out last night and it flew great. Takeoffs are still a bit squarely but Ill work on that. No bad habits in the air it does loops and rolls without a problem. For the landing Im flaring just a small amount just before touch down and it rolled out nicely without any bouncing. The robart gear is working real well so far. I need to add some color to it because with it being all silver it can be hard to see at times.

RE: Midwest AT-6 Overhaul
Yea, the AT6 can be tricky to land at times. I have the flap switch set to let the plane drop just slightly when power reduced and retracts down. This lets it settle without dropping that causes bounce. Make sure to keep speed up a but to prevent wing stall on takeoff and landings. Do NOT try to lift this plane off too soon on takeoffs. It will snap and roll over! Enjoy this plane! Paul

RE: Midwest AT-6 Overhaul
We had the at6 out the other evening and got a few more good flights on it. This is a nice flying plane. Too bad they don't make this kit anymore.

My Feedback: (61)
I purchased a used Midwest AT-6 airframe with Robart retracts a few years ago and I’m finely getting around to working on it. This will be my first warbird, first gas engine and first retract plane. It’s also the largest plane I have ever had, so a lot of first in this one. I will not be doing the maiden flight on this one.
I will be installing a G-26 magneto engine the previous owner used a G-23. The radio equipment will be all new 2.4 GHz with 6v battery. I’m also installing a new fuel system. My plan is to get the plane in the air this year and see how it fly’s. If it fly’s well and I like it I’m going to strip it and redo it with some kind of covering and latex paint. I’ll also use a new canopy and cowl.
The previous owner installed a single flap on the outside of the center section of the wing. I’m not going to use this because other people are not having a problem flying this plane without flaps as long as the CG is correct. I fly at a very nice grass field with a long runway (www.farviewflyers.net) so landing should not be a problem. The plane as it sets now without radio equipment or fuel system weighs 14lbs so I’m thinking flying weigh should be around 17lbs.
My first question is related to servos. I did not see a recommendation in the manual for servo torque for each control surface. I will be using two servos for the elevator one for each side. I normal use Hitec or Spektrum servos. So what size servos should I use for each Rudder, elevator and ailerons?
I’m going to replace the old golden rod linkage with new solid metal. Should I use 2-56 or 4-40?
Any suggestions or advice with this overhaul will be appreciated.
