Default Miscellaneous diesel ramblings

Well we've been flying a Parra 15 diesel powered C/L Anduril Combat model lately.

Last Saturday was warm, about 23 degrees C, and dead calm. A perfect midwinter day

This is hopeless, I can't add or edit anything. I'll try later!

Ray,

It looks like the "edit" button is hiding. Maybe it'll return with the promised upgrade.

But if you want to edit now, you can access your previous posts through the "quote" button. Certainly not ideal, but maybe if it's necessary to keep your reasoning going, this could be an answer.

And now just to prove me wrong, the "edit" button is back, in this thread, but not the Rustler one (??). Only thing is the edit button takes me back to the error message.

Same here except it crashes the website as well.

Maybe a computer reboot will help?

Greg and Ray, I know you've seen the big green notation at the top of the page. RCU is an absolutely huge site and is being moved to V-Bulletin. Patience is the word of the day. Making a new post to clarify is not a problem. Thanks, Dave

What's with the "Red Spot Special" stickers on the wing Ray?

So you can pick which, out of the two demons from hell flying at the speed of death, is yours?

Oh, and nice model too!

Hobbsy,

I meant no offence with my comments. I am a great fan of the RCU forums & can only imagine the problems in an upgrade.

It was partly because of having no access of late. And partly to test what could be done. The elusive "edit" button seemed to be coming & going.

Regards

Greg

No offense taken at all, we were told to keep people informed as they ask questions, although we don't have much more info than that offered by the "green thing" at the top.

Regrettably I didn't build it. It's an RTF, and the unusual scheme reflects a requirement by the mexicans (who dominate the combat event and the rules) that the aircraft have a wing at least half of which is brightly coloured.

Alas all the RTF's have the same scheme, and there are dozens of them, so potentially confusion may yet raine supreme.

I bought a few of 'em so my son could compete in the event. He's fallen ill so that didn't happen, so we just practice on weekends.

This Super Tigre G15 rear induction diesel has come into my possession in a trade for some other stuff.

While it's been used it hasn't been used much. It has very strong compression.

It's obviously been set up for use in an FAI teamracer but the spinner hasn't been cut to suit a prop hub so maybe it was never used in anger?

RCU seems to have settled down a bit this morning so I'll post what I originally intended to do.

This is actually a pre-production Parra 15 without any brand markings. It still goes like stink but perhaps not quite as hard as the latest version.

The venturi hole is 3.3mm diameter which allows maneuvering without burping. It's an excellent starter, hot or cold.

Closeup of the Parra showing the absence of any brand markings.

I love the short Russian style NVA which protects the needle in the event of a collision or a prang.

Saves about $20 a go!

The hole through the crankcase web just forward of the engine bearer, is for an engine restraining cable.

This connects back to the bellcrank mount. It's function is to keep the heavy hard things tied together in the event of a mid air collision.

And finally, a popular engine on this forum, another MVVS 09.

Bob was running this one in a few weeks ago. As you can guess it was about 4pm on a winters afternoon, hence the weaker light.

The MVVS has a new piston, made out of that magic 100 y/o window sash cord weight cast Iron.

Bob tells me that his stash is running low......

Lots of heat cycling through Aussie summers will have relieved the casting stresses nicely.

Well everything seems to be working with the new software after clearing the old cookies.

This is a Moki plain bearing Sports 15 diesel.

I've had to take it out of the model and give it an old fashioned oily 60 minute run in on the bench.

It now holds a setting reasonably well.

The next diesel is a Taipan Series 12 diesel with a fresh piston/liner combination. It's still fairly tight but it turns the RAM 8 x 6 at just over 11K.

It should improve with some extra running.

Interestingly the bottom of the crankcase had been cracked and it's been (possibly) TIG welded up and cleaned.

Here's a few more diesels.

I'd have to agree Martin, and I've had to delete the last cookie and re-login each visit.

Edit: Well it seems to work ok after I went to setting and refreshed my password and email address.!

Well today was the day that I got one of those elusive "round tuits" In this case an ancient Alag X4 that needed a new piston.

I had the cast iron stock in the lathe, and job progressing nicely. The piston was shaping up (sorry for the pun) well and had the best finish I'd ever put on a piston prior to lapping.

Then Murphy came around.... Mongrel!

Parted the job off, right through the piston crown, Mongrel!

Hi Qaz, I used a G15RI diesel, setup for team race that had a Cox TD .09 venturi for a USA Combat event termed 80 mph Combat.. It was run using Fast Combat

rules(Kills allowed); engines up to .36 cu" and 60' lines. I was using a 360 sq" model with a hard tank and used chopped down Kvan and Taipan 8" X6" props.

on 60' X .015" lines, it pulled a streamer at 76-77mph and would go 79 mph without the streamer. I believe the flying weight was 14.5ozs, so it flew very well.

Because of the very strong 1" sq L.E. stock, it survived all collisions, except the ones that opponents flew through it's very light tail boom. That was easily

fixed during the match with CA. I don't fly Combat anymore, otherwise I would definitely buy a Parra for speed limit Combat; They now fly 75 mph instead of

80 mph Combat. Which means that I could use a bigger wing area(390-425sq"s) at the same weight and stay at 75mph sans streamer. Good Luck;

Tony
