A fuselage slowly begins to emerge. The jig is 75 inches long just to give some reference of size. Sorry for the cluttered pic.

Chad, you could put a sheet over the background items to reduce clutter. Looking nice! I have a C200 on my short list.

Life managed to take over for a couple of months but the Macchi is back front and center now. Hope to have it on its gear by the end of August.

Next time we get together to talk Spit we will meet up at the shop Thud and you can look it over. It's not as big as I had envisioned in my head actually as the Macchi has a relatively long and thin wing. In terms of volume it probably isn't a whole bunch bigger than your P-47!

Good days and bad days Casey but I'm back at the bench on a regular basis which is good "therapy".

Bit by bit and piece by piece. The ailerons were a bit of a nightmare.

My pleasure Jeff and thank you. Assuming it flies well plans will be made available. I'm doing my best to put as much detail into the plans while I build the prototype so that their won't be a huge amount of clean up and correction required once the airplane has flown. This is tougher than it sounds! The basic design work is actually the easy part as I'm sure you are aware. Getting the plans from there to a marketable standard of finish is the truly time consuming part.

Count me in also. So far two of my favorite want to see done planes are coming due soon: Dave Andersen's Ki-45 Nick that Jeff is working on now and this Macchi 202. Life is good.

Alright John, thanks for jumping on board!

Now we need to start an email campaign to let Vic Catalasan know that we're going to need a glass man to make the accessories for this thing. There is going to be a BUNCH of glass parts and some of them are rather complex. I can make the plugs but I sure as heck don't have the right stuff to make the molds and lay up the parts! You listening out there Vic?

Hi Chad,

Does your offer of a pony for a photo of a Macchi C.202 with a bomb rack over on Hyper Scale apply to the Macchi C.205, too, or does it have to be a 202? Here's a pic of a 205.

The 202 (and 205) rarely, if ever was fitted with a bomb rack. It's role was bomber interception and top cover for Macchi C.200s and CR.42s flying ground attack. Those planes flew the ground attack missions because of their radial engines.

The C.205 in the photo is in the process of being sent to Egypt to fight against Israel in Israel's war of independence. Macchi sold several batches of 205s to Egypt. In that war they did fly both air-to-air and air-to-ground missions.

I do have a couple of photos of the Macchi bomb rack it you're interested.

Jay

Hi Jay,

The offer applies to either the 202 or 205 but I'm afraid there will be no pony for you since my request was for a picture of the airplane with bombs attached not just the racks!

I actually have a couple of pictures and a sketch of the rack but nothing really spectacular so I would be happy to receive anything that you might have to offer. My customer is wanting functional bomb racks installed despite the fact that the airplane apparently rarely, if ever, carried any external loads. I have seen one pic of a 205 with drop tanks but I have yet to find a single photo of either a 202 or 205 with bombs. Thanks for all your help as usual by the way. I will be putting the tailwheel information you sent me to good use soon as I need to get one made in the near future. I was hoping to have the Macchi on her wheels by the end of the summer. Not sure if I will make that deadline or not but I won't be too far behind.

Hi Chad,

Hopefully this isn't overkill, but here goes.

I actually found a photo of a Macchi C.202 with a bomb rack (but no bomb):

Here's a close up of a 50 kg bomb and rack on a Macchi C.200:

A 3-view of the bomb rack (unfortunately in 1/72):

A drawing with measurements of a full size Italian 50 Kg bomb:

The bomb is light grey from the leading edge of the fins back, and the nose color differs by type (general purpose, anti personnel, shipping, etc.).

I can e-mail these to you in larger file sizes, if you'd like.

Glad to see you are still chugging along on the Macchi.

Jay

Hi Jay,

That second pic of the bomb on the 200 is excellent, thank you! The other pic and the drawings I already have amongst my documentation but I certainly appreciate your offer. Once again the Macchi has taken a back seat for the last few weeks while I prepare some other airplanes for the upcoming Warbirds Over the Rockies event but I will be back on it hard after that. The wing will be complete soon and then I can get back to the fuse and tail feathers which is much more interesting to me. I hate building wings! Thanks again for your time and effort Jay, it is much appreciated.

Glad to see you are not rushing this one, Chad a I am not rushing the spinner mold, either! Although I do have the plug mated to the base board and am getting ready to cut the fence divider.....slow but steady.....

Nope, certainly not rushing this one. The owner probably wishes I was rushing just a bit more than I am though! With the weather finally cooling down around here I will be able to get more shop time in so progress will begin to pick up again. You've still got plenty of time on the spinner though!
