Default RE: Valley View RC Brand Engines

Any experience with XYZ 20cc of VVRC?

Does it have the equivalent power as DLE20? Which prop is best for it? Xoar, APC or Turnigy?

Thanks

Mody

They have their own Valley View 20cc engine now, no more XYZ for them. The new one is basically the same, still a bargain price, same crankshaft thread as the DLE now, and upgraded voltage on the ignition to 8.4V. They have similar power to the DLE if not better.

When I bought mine it was XYZ 20cc. Somehow, it's new and it has run 4 to 6 fuel tank of plane, not even gallon. I felt it's under powered as compared to DLE20, may be down the road after running couple of gallons of fuel, it may make a difference. At the moment, I'm using non-synthetic oil. I will change it to synthetic. I'm using APC 17X6 prop and I have also purchased Turnigy 17X6, as I have broken 4 to 5 Xoar's prop which is more than $100. Why I broke that, various reasons, hard landings dead sticks....................

I also have RCG20 from HK, which I have not yet run, as I mounted it on MXS-R from Seagull model, and the plane is not ready yet.

One of the 20cc gurus at our field got tired of nicking the wooden props and now likes the good ol' APC 17x6's. Yet another guy here on a forum runs the APC 17x4W for 3D.

Got to fly the 40 twin again this weekend and it performed flawlessly. Really impressed with this set up. We compared the size of this engine to a 50 twin and what a difference. This engine was made for the hangar 9 27% extra 260.

So you are saying the 40 twin has as much power as a 50 twin , Wow that's impressive .BTW, Which 50 twin are you comparing it to?

Ok , I Googled the Bowman reed modification . I am amazed that for 30+ years I didn't now that fitting reeds was a modification and had a proper name LOL . Yes I will do the Bowman reed modification . I check the reeds for fit and seal on any reed valve engine since way back years ago ,when reeds were metal and would destroy a cylinder when they failed . That's when I learned to never trust a manufacturer to put Loctite on internal screws - always do it yourself.

From the factory sometimes the reeds don't sit flush on the (molded nylon, plactic) reed block. I.E., don't shut completely off at rest. A quick disassemble and polishing flat of the block on a hard flat surface with sand paper will cure that. At best will make for easier starts, smoother idle, and might get your old girlfriend back.

And turn the reeds over both ways to see which way they sit the flatest.

I haven't done the mod to any of my gassers yet, but I have a pair of DLE 20's that may need it. All the others (including the VVRC 20 and 40) run so well, I'm loathe to open them up, even just to get to the reeds. I'm not supersticious, I just don't think I need to tear into a perfectly good motor. YMMV

Come to think of it, I did install a Bowman ring in one of my DLE 35's that ran fine before, but I just HAD to try one after all I had heard about them. That 35 runs even better, now. Thanks, Frank.

I just ordered my VVRC 40cc twin. It will be going on a 85" Zlin Z50-L designed for a 26-30cc engine. This should be a perfect combination.

I will be using the Tech-Aero voltage regulator which eliminates the "extra" battery pack for the ignition. I have three airplane equipped with these units and they work great. They provide excellent filtering and an opto kill switch.

Thanks everyone for the info on the twin. I have been searching for just the right engine and this is it!

I got one of the 40cc twins recently.

I'm swinging a Vess 20B to 6950RPM.

My 40cc twin arrived the day of our club meeting. Everyone was drooling all over it. If it runs as good as it looks, I have a winner! Fits in the Zlin cowl perfectly!

I need to get another project finished up before I start on the Zlin.

Here is my VVRC 40cc twin pulling around my 78'' Extreme Flight Extra. I haven't weighed the plane but i'm sure it's around 13 pounds. I'm swinging a Vess 20B http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9NiQdQ0l4zw

Nice flying with the extra. I'm really enjoying my extra with this engine. A really nice set up, and hardly any vibration. Fuel consumption is very minimal.

Is there a single bolt hub available for the 40cc twin?

Will be flying the 40 twin as soon as I get Yak rigged up.We have three VV 20s flying at the field now. They are really a nice little engine.Easy to tune and smoother then DL 20.I will report on power when I have a little more time on my VV 20.I think it is going to as good or better then the DLE 20.Plus they do not have the funning timing curve that the #4 has on the DLE 20.I still build my own ignitions but RCEXL has about the same timing timing curve on his new HV ignition.
Just a old FOG.BCCHI.AMA 2500.Hi Jodi.

The single-bolt prop adaptor intended for the DLE50/55 fits the VVRC 40 twin, since the bolt pattern is the same. I've had one of these adaptors on my 40 twin since I started running it and it's been fine, no problems.
