MT4 G3 shock leakage
Hi guys,
I've been noticing the rear shocks on my MT4G3 are leaking shock fluid. I've checked the rubber cap underneath the shock cap, but all appears to be fine. The loss of shock fluid is resulting in lesser than desired dampening. What am I missing?

Its a common problem for many rtr shocks. Have you been able to identify where the leak is coming from? In any case there are only really 3 places they can leak, either from bottom cap,top cap, or the o-rings where the shaft exits the shock body. Most commonly it is the latter (o-rings) due to careless construction at the factory (didnt oil them before inserting them). Then there's the question of whether or not it is poor construction that led to the problem, or a combination of that and natural dirt and dust damage as the shaft bangs in and out many times a second, slowly eroding the o-rings.
If its either of the caps, use a little plumbers tape to provide a better seal at the caps. If it's the o-rings or just wear and tear or a combination of both, get a shock rebuild kit and carefully follow the best practice procedure for rebuilding shocks, which simply involves being careful to thoroughly oil the o-rings and shaft with the same silicone that you will fill them with, and then running socks on the shock springs to prevent further build up of grit. If you still don't get the longevity you want by doing this, you can soak the new (or old) o-rings in gasoline (petrol) to expand them a little, giving them a tighter fit.

Awesome stuff as always sir! I actually busted out the tape yesterday as I think it's the top cap based on where the oil buildup (and consequently dirt) is. Thanks so much!

My stock shocks leaked bran new even after making sure everything was tight.
After messing with those junk shocks, I quit fooling with them and got the OFNA 20MM big bores and havent looked back since.

Thanks! I am still having issues with on shock in particular. Even after the plumbers tape. Got a good web site to buy the big bores from? Did it require mods to get them to fit?

I have the OFNA 20MM big bore shocks and my brother uses the RC8 shocks. Either works really sooooo much better than stock. No "mods" required!
I moved my front shock behind the a-arms. The 20MM are a tighter fit. I also had to buy upgrade springs front and rear becasue the ones OFNA came with were setup for a truggy, the MT4 is a monster truck.
