I just got these pics from Marcelo with his Epic that he will be using this weekend in the Argentina Nats. I think I will be using his behind the canopy scheme change for scheme 1 as it breaks-up the empty area back to the fin.

Still no camera work, and might be after the Worlds before I get it done... maybe.

Quick question: Which of these is stronger for a firewall (like for the Epic) and which is stronger for mounting plates for a motor (like for nose mounted motor), if there is a difference:

I would use the second one, but the first one would work well also. This is what I am planning to use in my plane with either the Q80 or the Pletty Advance. I would be willing to mount a Contra to it and feel confident in the product as indicated by the spec's.

Yes there is a difference between thetwo but nothing worth noting for the intended task. The 1/8" thickness of the carbon sheet is the driver. Way overkill for the task, BTW. There's no reason to have that much thickness for a motor this small....Are you planning to remove most of the sheet? If yes, then 1/8" will be fine.

<o></o>If you are doing a rear mount firewall, I would use the ply core product from Dragon Plate. It’s actually a bit lighter and stronger than the solid stuff. Its nuts how strong it is. 1/8 to 3/16 is plenty and you can still add a bunch of holes to lighten it up even more.

Any of the soild products are fine for a front mount, although i still used the ply stuff to hang a Q80.

Interesting that after all of this, Jason has taken a pair of biplanes to the WC. Guessing the lower wing loading is more desirable in the very thin, high altitude South African air..

I am disappointed to hear that. I am sure JAS has his reasons, wing loading at 5000ft, etc . I think Marcelo is flying his, was looking forward to seeing what it would do in JAS hands on a big stage like the WC.

That's my guess. The altitude lends itself to the lighter loading of a bipe I think. I haven't been able to talk with Jason about it though, so this is purely conjecture on my part. Jason is flying his "Mystery" as his primary airplane. It's a really good looking biplane from CA as well.

Hey Doug,

The scores do not indicate the bipes are having any advantages, yet. The unknowns may prove differently. Marcelo sent me the pricing for JAS bipe a few days before he left, but i have not seen the plane yet.

I was on the WC site a few hours ago, been moving......, again! I did not see those pics posted. Good looking plane, gotta talk to him about those colors, lol. Will be interesting to see how it compares to the bi-side. I still prefer the look of the EPIC.
