Welp... looks like B got caught in a Deja Voop-Loop...

On another note, my HobbyKing order actually got here FIRST.

That means I have 3 brammy-new Zippy 1000 mah packs and 1 new NanoTech 1.8, plus servos for my Genius CP and a bag of 5030 props. My Quad is still in 'Frisco, and tonight is Flying Club night.

They gave me Buddy codes; here ya go:

Zippy 2S 1000mah 25C Compact for $2.94
http://www.hobbyking.com/buddy.asp?c...6-C767919E3B9E

And the 5030 2-blade Props, 3 sets CW/CCW for $1.73:

http://www.hobbyking.com/buddy.asp?c...0-65E5EC2FC1C4

Actual, measured stats on the batteries are:

Zippy 2S 1000mah 25C Compact - 55.22 Grams, 75mm x 35mm x 13mm

Turnigy NanoTech 2S 1.8 25-50C - 103.27 Grams, 114mm x 34mm x 13mm

http://www.hobbyking.com/hobbyking/s...dProduct=20428

You know the drill; if you can use my codes, you save money, I get credit at HK, yadda, yadda, yadda.

Awright, time to go pack the car...

Thanks guys.  The damage was really minor on his car, a few marks on the bumper but who knows what a Bentley bumper is worth.
Mine didn't even have the dust wiped off it. Luckily it will be sorted with insurance but the excess is the same as a 500.
I drive that road every second day and have never seen anyone stop there. He thought the red light was for that lane and by the time I realised he had stopped it was to late. Another 6 inches and I would have been fine.
I use the dash cam incase anyone does something stupid to me. Instead it provided me with a permanent reminder of my stupidity.

You know... I try REALLY hard to be tolerant. I try and put myself in another man's shoes before passing judgement, and then I STILL try and give the benefit of the doubt.

But Brian, I think you're right. Tom Frank is just plain a @$$ho'. Now I realize I live in the US of A, the nation FOUNDED on the concept that you cain't take away a man's right to BE a @$$ho'; but this is ridiculous.

Note that nowhere does he EVER mention ANYTHING that isn't a SOFTWARE issue. It is a GIVEN in the context of this thread that there is nothing that can be done about the existing hardware at this point, aside from possible accessories to upgrade with. Most of the relevant material in the thread is about bugs and updates to the FIRMWARE. I clearly specify HARDWARE, and more than once. And his response, particularly to the issue of experimentation; can ANYBODY really be that obtuse, especially about the nature of the very work he is himself doing?

Approx 4 pages later, he gets tired of people who insist that their issues are relevant, so he decides to take his ball and go home. AGAIN. And the best part? He finds out later that the HARDWARE (The SDCard Controller Chip) can format in exFAT, thereby defeating any 32GB limitation that FAT32 may carry. So he adds that little nugget in with a number of other "loose ends" and promptly closes the thread.

The way he carries on makes sense that he has a vested interest in these cameras, the #16 and now the mobius. By that I mean he probably is the business owner or a partner and he has contracted some chinese unknown company to produce and develop the hardware and software. He seem to be the only link to this secret manufacturere/developer. People are so stupid... why would he not take his ball and go home if the thread does not contain the information and discussions he wants. Afterall it is the biggest free marketing tool for him and his cameras.

@ Jonesy - Tom Frank is a phreakin' @ S S Hole!

I started on my Q45/DJI Flame Wheel clone today and it's my surmise that I may, in fact, be a 'tard.

It IS a lot to take in and I'm trying to take from all the resources available. So far I soldered all the goodies onto the bottom PCB board and THAT is the s h i t!

I will say, however that I am TIRED of my CRAPPY solder and soldering iron. WOW it is miserable trying to solder with such crap. Suggestions?

Anyhooo, I followed the video below predominately and STILL managed to put the thing together wrong and had to pull it apart.

Then my H2.0 hex driver took a crap on me.

I bought [link=http://www.amazon.com/dp/B000NZ5QE2/ref=pe_385040_30332200_pe_309540_26725410_item]THESE[/link] to replace my aged Turnigy set.

I wonder if they'll hold up?

I installed my [link=http://www.hobbyking.com/hobbyking/store/__36674__q_brain_4_x_20a_brushless_quadcopter_esc_ 2_4s_3a_sbec.html]"Q Brain"[/link] under the bottom plate as there was JUST enough clearance.

Lastly I DID manage to put the lipo alarm mod on the KK2 boar.

Then I ran out of time.

Work early tomorrow and then off to the RV campground so middle of next week to continue on the project.

Just as well in that I NEED to digest the project!

All the best and....

"F" Tom Frank!

Thanks rb.

Suggest 63/37 solder, not 60/40 and the key to good soldering is cleanliness  Pencil eraser to clean leads and pads with alcohol rub afterward.  Use just enough flux to wet it (however, if it's properly clean, flux isn't needed.)

Interesting your going with the qbrain rather than 4 x esc. What motors are you using ?

The Align set of hex drivers for about $20 from the LHS have been good to me so far. I would recommend these.

rb, what are you soldering onto the board ? I thought it was for power distribution for normal esc's. Won't your battery plug straight into the power connecter from the brain ?

Jonesy - Mmemmem caused me to have a knee jerk buy on the Q Brain. We'll see. It's surely is neater. Fits nicely underneath. As for soldering I just did it to do it. I'll be adding lighting and a bunch of other stuff that will solder to the power distribution nicely!

The motors are [link=http://www.hobbyking.com/hobbyking/store/uh_viewItem.asp?idProduct=34122]THESE[/link].

German drivers are on their way via Amazon with free two day shipping!

All de BEST!

Brian -

Soldering to the Power Distribution plate on the 450 is going to require a pretty big iron; it's a big chunk of copper and acts as quite the heat sink. If you're using the Ace Hardwipe or Radio Shank 30W cheapie, time to throw it away before you ruin a FC.

You need a good ADJUSTABLETEMPERATURE (NOTVariable wattage) soldering iron; I recommend around 50W for most uses. See my comments here for more in-depth discussion and lots of tool recommendations:

http://www.helifreak.com/showthread.php?t=546174

For heavier soldering like that distribution board and most heavy gauge battery wires & plugs, etc, a good Temp-controlled gun like this is best:

http://www.tequipment.net/WellerGT7A.html

I personally never use the 700° head; it's too hot in my opinion unless you're actually working with lead-free solder. Look around on FleaBay; if you're patient, you can find the gun used for $15-25 and get a new GT6A or GT6B 600° head for $25-35.

Ok, sprung for the adjustable soldering iron and got LEAD solder.

I've been soldering since I was a kid with my dads gear.

As an adult I have been using the WRONG lead-free Harbor Freight solder and it just don't melt!

Thanx to all!

What the h3II are ya'll soldering! Water pipe?

I had the highest non-instructor level certified NEC for soldering during the 80's when I was in the Navy working in a PME lab (QA for both too). Hey! I have an ego too

Definitelty lead solder but eutectics 63/37 is best. 60/40 is cheaper but it has a plastic state which can cause you to have more poor solder joints. Bottom line, 63/37 is more forgiving and better.

And 670 degrees is best (and ability to keep it there) as that's the sweet spot between melting time and lead evaporation (which changes the alloy ratio and thus the solidification process which leads to the quality of the joint).

Now I could go on for the whole 40 hour course but even the above is mostly excessive to what we do.

What isn't is cleanliness! Having clean copper/leads/wires allows better/quicker energy transfer thus making a better solder joint because it requires less heat thus doing less damage to boards and less lead evaporation thus best alloy ratio for best solder joint.

So remove that surface oxidation and you'll have a wetting action that gives you a quick and great solder joint. <<<<bottom line
