RE: Sig Spacewalker II 1/4 scale
If you intend to use the supplied ABS tips be aware that there is a difference between the left and right tip. It is subtle enough to not notice and it will even fit... I started by clamping the block of balsa to the wing rib and traced the outline of the rib. I roughed out the right wing tip as much as I dare. I will glue it onto the wing rib and finish the final shaping on the wing. I did remove a minimal amount of material from the back side in order to keep weight down. I didn't remove more as this really is some very light wood and the tips are pretty darn light to begin with and I would rather have more surface area for glue.Well it's easy to make one tip, the trick now is to duplicate another one for the other side!

Beautiful work VJ! If I could make one suggestion, make sure the other one is the opposite hand. That probably goes without saying, but.......

RE: Sig Spacewalker II 1/4 scale
Looks great Vj. I have a question, do you have any tips for sanding on the wingtips to get a good flush fit to the wing surface without accidentally taking off any material from the LE sheeting or cap strips? It seems like no matter how careful I try to be I end up being a bit off, I know I have taken a long sanding bar and only put sandpaper on one end so when I am sanding the bar can rest on the cap strips and only the sandpaper end of the sanding bar makes contact with the wingtip, is there a better method for that?
thanks,
~Dave

Dave, a long sanding bar to evenly distribute the load equipped with 220 grit paper using slow deliberate strokes works for me. Sometimes I may put some tape on area(s) that I need to protect. Hope this helps you.I have one side completed...what do you think?

Look like were back gang! Don't know if I like the changes, I preferred to be able to see all the photos beforehand instead of individually clicking to open each photo...Anyway, the wing tips have been completed. I also completed installing the servos for the ailerons. I made the brackets that you see from some aluminum angle stock that I purchased at the hardware store. The servos are held to these brackets with four 2-56 x 3/4" cap head bolts. The assembly is further bolted to the ply cover which is attached to the wing as you can see. Haven't figured out how to load pics. Each time try it says file is too large...

I'm glad that the site is up and running, but they may still have bugs to work out.
For instance, I didn't get an email notification of your post, Vincent.
I'm with you. So far, I'm not impressed with the new layout. Maybe, it's just because I was so familiar with the old one.

I hope they get this sorted as well. If I can't post photos I won't bother posting anymore... In the event that this does get resolved, I have been taking plenty of photos to show the work that has been done. To catch you all up as to where I stand, the Spacewalker has been completed (building) and I have disassembled it to begin final sanding. I have purchased a 10 meter roll of Solartex and will start on the covering as soon as the sanding is done... Before I took it apart I placed the Spacewalker on my balancer and did a preliminary balance on it, it was fully assembled along with electronics, battery, wheels and prop. It balanced out perfectly with the CG set at 3-3/8" with no additional weight. And speaking of weight, you may be curious as to how much it weighs at this point as I was. 12.4 pounds! Not bad considering what I added to this build. I remain optimistic that I will be able to share the photos with all of you and continue with the completion of this build...

I just read that they will have the picture thing fixed within 24 hours.
I'm still not getting email notifications, and this thread isn't listed as a subscribed thread.
I hope they get this mess sorted out !

VJ, I replied to your PM. But if you are still having problems posting photos, why not shoot me a couple via email and I'll see if I can post them. I'm on vacation for the rest of this week with nothing planned, I'd be glad to help out if I can. You should have my email address, but let me know if you need it again.
Take care,
David
P.S. I was just kinda joking in my last post, the response to raptureboy. I've been in RCU's shoes before, at least industrial programming wise, and I can understand what they are going through. I imagine there are a few of them pulling their hair out and popping the Xanax pills!
