I'm a video engineer. Mostly live events. Set up cameras, projectors, ect for large venue events such as concerts, trade shows, shareholders meetings. Tech director during the shows.
I am a video editor in the off-season. I should be editing right now instead of surfing rcuniverse.
Upside: can sneak my indoor flyer into some of the largest venues around. Get to walk around with backstage passes and look important. Get paid handsomely to be at the concerts others pay to attend. Get to fly my simulators on 60ft. displays.
Downside: work too many evenings and weekends. On call all the time. Work with famous people with famous egos.
Work is very seasonal and the hours suck. Might work 20 hour days for a week and then work a total of 20 hours the next week.
I spent 2 years working for a Winston Cup champion in Charlotte after dropping out of Aerospace Engineering due to a lack of funds. I decided the hours working in racing sucked for someone wanting to start a family and got into my current field. The hours as a video engineer are just as bad.
When I was majoring in AE I intended on getting into the UAV field.
How does one go back to school with children and a mortgage?

Airline pilot. Originally from Australia but now working in Japan. Current aircraft is Boeing 737-400 (LHS). Not a bad job; dirty work but somebody has to do it. Back into RC flying after 20+ years of doing other things.

RE: Least respected "BUT" Not the most hated
This thread has been going on for so long that since I last posted I have:
1. Finished my contract job (July 31)
2. Spent a couple of months looking for a new job before finally giving up and spending most of Ocober flying.
3. Restarted my job 3 months later (in November) back at the same desk, in the same building, doing the same job and reading the same RCU thread!

RE: Developer
auto mechanic, work in a junk yard keeping everythin ( and everyone) working.
I'm an expert at fixing something without any parts or tools. Just a welder and a torch, maybe a visegrip if I'm lucky.
Used to build hotrods at my house but discovered R/C is more fun-I'm sitting down out of the rain- and usually not bleeding.LOL!

How do I afford this hobby? It is impossible for me to spend all my per diem on food!
6 more days until I retire and have to find a real job.[:'(] But, no more travelling![8D]

Minnflyer:
If you were a graphic artist for a telephone marketing company, you would have lots of time to fly. I can hear it now:
Telemarketer: "Yes Ma'am. And if you could see this really great illustration here you would notice that..."
I manage the Systems Analysis and Design Group at the Federal Election Commission. I am responsible for the campaign finance disclosure database, electronic filing and web presence for the commission as well. Sounds like a lot and I guess it is but I still find time to build and fly!

The events I have to work ALWAYS fall on the days with nice flying weather. They plan it that way. There really is something to that farmers almanac weather prediction.
I need an occupation that only works when the weather is bad!
