Default P-47 tail wheel doors

I've molded the tail wheel gear doors for my 1/5 Top Flite P-47 and would like to know how to hinge and actuate the gear doors. I have the "Springair" retracts installed which use just one line as opposed to two ,so not sure if I can use pneumatic cylinder(s) to open and close the 'clam shell' tail wheel gear doors, with this set up any suggestions and or sources that may help me solve this would be appreciated. Thanks-- and Merry Christmas to all- [sm=confused.gif]

use sonictronics hinges and make wires from the retract to the door hinges.
so that when ever the retract lowers the door opens, and shut when retract
retracts.

pheonix hinges.

http://www.sonictronics.com/products/hinges/prod05.htm

cheaper than other option it seems.

Richard,

The hinges I will be using are small piano hinges. This will look very scale and functuional.

As you know, the doors were closed by two "door actuating arms" between the tail wheel frame and the doors, which in turn pulled the doors shut when retracted.

This info is clearly seen on pg 66 in Walk Around P-47 Thunderbolt No. 11 (Squadron Signal Publications)

Not sure about you, but if I find that their isn't enough air to pull them up, then I will beef up the pneumatic portion of the retract.

Let me know if this helps. I have tons of documentation on the jug. This would seem befitting of me to do so since I'm building two of them.

ramcfarland

i'm very intrested on this subject i am also going to try and do the gear doors for my p-47
on the real one there are like above said two rods going to each door from the retract. what i thought of was to weld a small piece of brass tube to the frame then solder two ball links on each end of it then attach a wire with another ball link at the end of it that would go to the gear door like the first picture that i have attached. you would have to just play around with the geometry of it to get it right, what did you make those gear doors out of, might have to pay u to make me some

i'm not sure of what kinda hinges to use as i am not done with the top of the fuse lol, i am finishing up a big ikon beaver while building this so it's kinda slow but i'm going to get back to the thunderbolt soon, i'll help you with this subject though then when i get to the step i will be able to do it, i don't know what kinda hinges to use though will have to research that.

racer-rcu hit dead on. That was the page I was talking about. If I get a chance, I post some pics soon.

Richard, if I was you, since it is a Top Flite giant. I would use small brass piano hinges for the doors. If it was a smaller Top Flite, I would use the hinges racer-rcu is using on the door in the pic.

I plan on using these hinges he is using in other areas. They are real handy.

I like the Molded doors you made too.
