I am interested in getting an arf warbird and was wondering if anyone has any experience with the Kyosho Spitfire. I would like to put retracts and a 3 blade prop on it. What do you think?

Good flyer, lousy covering. I have retracts and a Fox .50 in mine. Would recommend if you don't mind recovering after your first season.

Was my second plane after my trainer, seemed like a good flyer to me as well, my only problem was really the landing gear, on my grass field, I had to bend the gear forward quite a bit, it made the gear weak and eventually one side snapped off at the bend, since you will be using retracts you will avoid this. Covering is awful as the above poster says. Cowl was too small to even use.

I used the magnum .40 engine that came with my trainer combo package, plenty of power, but I needed nose weight. PLane isn't even bad on a dead stick landing, surprised me.

No idea, I am never going to buy an ARF again likely, too many weird little things that are difficult to work around, then again, the plane is small, really small inside, a .60 sized plane is easier. I do love the little thing, soon as I get some new gear It will be up in the air again. Was a very good intro to low wing aircraft I think, lands kind of hot but it is worth getting used to it I suppose. My field is just awful, makes things alot harder than normal.

I currently own and fly the plane and I love it. It has a TT 46 for power and it zips along niceley. The covering looks great at first but is almost unrepairable if you have any damage. The cowl is a bit small and I dont like the fact that you have the stock muffler hanging out but its a 40 sized plane after all so I let that slide

I had the Kyosho Spitfire. It was my first warbird, it had retracts and a OS-.46FX in it.
What I "Hated" about it the most was the Crappy sticky back paper covering they use on it. I was very happy when I sold it, just because of that one thing about it(the crappy covering)[:'(]. It looked great new.
The covering would get soft very easy in the little bit of sun or heat. But the worst was when the covering starts peeling off along the seams or anywhere there was a gap,hole or a patch job. When the fuel and oil got under the covering it was a mess, the covering would get all gummy. It was just a mess to get clean or to ever reseal or fix.
Its built good and strong.
Also a very good flyer and landed nice.
It does need more then a .46 if you use retracts, a 70 size 4-stroke would be nice in it.
I would look around for something better,unless you are going to recover it first but I think that woud be a waste of time and money.
Get the Kyosho ZERO, thats made a lot nicer with no sticky paper.

I have a Kyosho Spit. Very nice flier due to low weight.
Thunder Tiger 54 FS. After a few landings, the retracts
came away due to lack of glue from factory.
I took them off and turned them around so now they
are scale and fitted with oleo legs.
I have repaired a few areas after the covering gave way.
I used Solar Tex and then painted with enamels.
