Default Does anyone know what plane this is?

A bit of a mystery here.

My friend and I are trying to find out what type of plane this is. He bought it second hand and pre-assembled in the early 80's. We could tell that it was re-covered prior to his purchasing it, so there is no telling how old it is.

My Friend, Rick fixed it up and we began to fly it. It is a very gentle flyer with a good bit of attitude when things speed up. It was crashed pretty bad and we're planning on re-creating it, but don't have plans.

Is it possible that it is a custom plane?

Here are the specifics:

.60 sized motor
6.5 ft wing
flat-bottom airfoil with airfoil stabilizer
tri-gear (steerable nose)
full 5 channel plane (has flaps)

If anyone can help determine what this is, that would be great. I'll also post aftermath pics.

Thanks in advance!

gmax6,

Im guessing its not an Ultra Sport...US doesnt have a constant chord wing as pictured nor an airfoil stabilizer. This plane as a whole doesnt look familiar but rather looks like it might be a conglomeration of a few parts. Wing you say is flat-bottomed...looks like a Sig Four-Star wing with flaps added. FS doesnt have an airfoil stab or rounded rudder though. Tailfeathers look more like an early Carl Goldberg kit....Falcon 56 or Senior Falcon maybe. Fuse looks similar to the Four Star with the exception of the canopy. Could be just a modified Sig Four-Star 60.

I couldnt tell from the crash pic but, what is the fuse constructed of...balsa or lite ply...sheet or stringers or combo of both.

Have to think some more on this one.

Thanks for the replies.

I also remember that there was a stamp on ome piece of ply that said "bud nosen" We are not sure if this was for just the wood, or if it was a nosen kit.

Does anyone know what planes Nosen used to build? I know that A&A currently builds the kits. What other Bud Nosen models did Nosen make? I can remember the P-51, Citabria, Mr Mulligan, Rookie and a 10 ft 2 engined cessna. Are there any others?

Again, this plane is at least 20 years old. It spent 19 of those past years in my buddie's attic collecting dust. [X(]

Definately not an ultra sport.

It also has a bit of dihedral in the wings.

Thanks !

Gerry,

It kind of looks like the old Andrews Trainermaster series. They had the .40 and .60 sizes back in the 70's.

It looks like an RCM Funster 40 kit made by Great Planes. I don't know if they made it in a 60 size kit. I have the 40 size kit & it looks just like the picture on the box, flat bottom wing & can be made with flaps. The wing width for the 40 size is 72 inches.

wow, it looks like it could be a funstar. The only thing that looks different is the front deck of the fuse looks less wide. Maybe it's the angle. The canopy was done with a 2 litre soda bottle.

The 60 flew it really well, what is the Funstar 40 like to fly? Does it seem under powered?

I looked on RCM. Maybe we'll buy the plans for the funstar.

Thanks for the help!

The kit is still in the back room unopened after 10 years. When i looked at the picture in the first post I just thought it looked familiar.

My Friend Rick has ordered the plans. He's pretty certain that it's a funster. Not the next question:

When does this kit date back to? I wonder when the plans first hit RCM.

With a .60 2stroke, this is one sweet flyer. Fast, stable, slows down well to land. I'll be happy when we rebuild it.

Thanks again!

Looks to me like it is an old airmaster, and at 6.5 ws, I would say the airmaster .60 Used to be sold by Hobby Lobby, check with them, they might be able to help you with plans. I know it used to be a model that could be cloned to look like a warbird also
Good luck

Hi,
I currently own a funster .40 made by greta planes and trust me that is what you have there, it says in the original construction article dating about april 82, it would handle up to a .70 2 stroke. It also came ewuipped with a friction nose wheel brake and the first version done by rcm also had a bomb drop function.

I hope you get it flying again , I was fortunate enough to pick up a complete never started kit a few months back on this sight and am currently finishing the wings and will be headed to the airfield in the next couple of months I hope.

hope this helps and have fun flying !

I also have a spare set of plans for this plane if someone needs them
