The Saito FA-91 is in the "Mid-block" series, they are all 12mm x 1.0mm thread.

Thanks, Bill. I knew they were 12MM, but didn't know the pitch size.

Dave and Bill:

I am trying to be the "Saito Support Forum." I have a good line into Horizon for questions I can't answer.

Bill Robinson, what about the Saito 72? Is it also 12x10?

Thanks,

Luis

Bill:
I am having trouble finding a flexible exhaust for the Saito 72. I found one a while back but I thought then it was too expensive. Now it is not even available at Horizon Hobbies. What would you recommend as an inexpensive alternative?
Is there a 90 degree connector I can use to attach the muffler? How important is the pressure nipple on the exhaust to pressurize the fuel tank?. I thought about building a flexible exhaust but the time is certainly not worth it unless the parts to build it are readily available.
Your thoughts would be appreciated.

Luis:

I would have sent you to Horizon for the Saito supplied flex pipe. Pricey, but they did work nicely. Now you say they are no longer available.

If all you need is a hard bend coming from the cylinder, check the exhaust on the FA-200Ti, it has a 90 degree adapter coming out of the head, the standard exhaust can be screwed into it.

Alternately, go to your local plumbing supply house, they often have small diameter accordion tubing that can be welded to the original Saito head pipe, the accordion folds act as a muffler and the head pipe can be tapped for a pressure fitting.

I have run the Saito engines with a straight exhaust pipe. While the noise isn't objectionable, I've had fuel feed problems with the lowered pressure in the tank. It might work all right in your installation. Just have to try it and find out.

Bill.
Flexible steel galvinized tubing from McMaster-Carr... 1/2" id 5/8"od 1 3/4" min rad #5262K14 $0.42/ft This is the smallest they show.

Standard metric pipe dimensions specify a 1. 5 mm thread pitch.

Enjoy,

Jim
