BEST 3D PLANE FOR 2004

RE: BEST 3D PLANE FOR 2004
Mine is outfitted with a DA 150, on KS 1090 tuned pipes and deep drop flex headers all purchased from Dave Johnson. Cut your headers at 12.25 in length measured from the center of your exhaust ports, this will give you good mid range and right at 500 rpm gain on the top end.

RE: BEST 3D PLANE FOR 2004
Hello John
That extra 500 rpm at the top will make a huge difference, particularly on those double up-line snaps, when your flying something at between 42 and 44 lbs. on a warm summer day. If you can get down to San Antonio, I will let you fly mine before you make a decision.

The cans will give you between 150 and 200 rpm gain. Many of the IMAC guys I fly with use cans and pipes and we have done lots of comparisons.

RE: BEST 3D PLANE FOR 2004
The mostest bestest I've got hold of in 2004, so far, is the Extreme Flight Mini 3D. A 25FX and sub micro gear yeilds a 2 pound 4 ounce 3D machine. At 530 squares, people think it's filled with helium it floats so light.
I like my EF Edge 540T, but the Mini is a better 3D machine, IMHO.
In the "I wish I could testify" category would have to be the Chip Hyde Double Vision.

RE: BEST 3D PLANE FOR 2004
I'm sorry. . I've looked at all the responses, but they just aren't quite as good as my 28 lbs 40% Composite-ARF Extra 330 powered by a BME110X on canisters. I have yet to see anything out there near it's size (lets say over 100") that can fly as slow, as precisely, as radically, or as crazy, as this plane will. Even those Yaks that everyone raves about can't get near it. I was doing harrier passes the other day, with the spoilerons cranked up at about 20 degrees. . not only did it putt along at 5 mph and 30 degrees nose up, the slots in the ailerons whistled the entire time, and it had zero wing rock and was as steady and controllable as if it was doing 40 mph. The upright slow-spin elevator was the same way, totally locked in.
Then crank in some throttle and do 15' square loops with zero tip dropout, or even 15' tail-chasing loops in place that never lose altitude or become unstable or slow down. Not talking waterfalls here. . real. . flying . . . loops. The plane will do "S" turn climbs and never slow down, just pull, push, pull, push, on up and up and up. Then come down the same way. It happens almost as fast as you can say it.
I'm sorry, you get the weight down that low, it's just unbeatable.
One other mention. .for the 1/4 scale sized planes don't forget the 80" "Frenzy" that debuted at Joe Nall this year. With the BME50 on the nose, I really don't think ANY other 72-90' plane can touch it. Soon to be out in kit and ARF forms in full-fuselage and profile versions.

RE: BEST 3D PLANE FOR 2004
The best Pure 3D-er that I've personally flown is the EF Edge540T. I've flown some bigger planes that are a blend of the 3D/IMAC disciplines and really like the way the H9 Extra 330 performed.
I guess the question is about a pure 3D plane, and in my book profiles are really hard to beat. Mark me down for the EF Edge.

yes Tailtwister. . 40% Composite-ARF at 28 lbs .. its written right on the side of the plane. . "40%, 28.5 lbs, 110cc's, Nuff said" That includes the IMAC mandated pilot figure and IP.
As you can see from the pics, you can hold it easily with one hand and arm extended.
Last picture is Tony Dupaquier (Ynot on these forums) and the Frenzy at Joe Nall.

RE: BEST 3D PLANE FOR 2004
yeah Jon. . I asked Andreas to mold me one that was as light as possible, the bare airframe came in about 4 lbs lighter than normal ones do. The BME110 loses another 4 lbs compared to a 150 setup, and I traded the aluminum wing tube for a CF one, and removed some non-critical material.
Funny thing. . while talking with Andreas at Joe Nall last month, he told me that he was basically VERY surprised that the plane was stillin one piece. He figured it would break apart within a month after I got it flying . .I've gone over every inch of the structure, and I really can't any signs of strain or problems. I gues either Andreas is better than he thinks he is, or I got VER lucky with this bird.
If I had it do again, I think I'd try a TBM 42% 260. It's only slightly larger, yet is about the same weight with another 200" of wing area. . 2600" of area and 29 lbs. . .think about it.

i can't speak personally about the giant scale stuff but the generally looks like one of the best flying planes around.
From what i have flown though i have to say Kangke Fun 50.

Clam, tell us what you really think about the Yak. Why is it that as soon as I get 20 flights on what I consider the best plane ever, a better one comes along? ALWAYS!!!

RE: BEST 3D PLANE FOR 2004
all i can say is i really love it. it flies great, it feels nice and locked in but it is by no means noseheavy. on low rates i can to 15 foot diameter loops. i havent yet gotten a chance to try it on high rates. this thing is a real blast. i have gotten it down to an easy walking speed with no wing rock, almost NO knife edge coupling. it took something like 5% to correct. inverted flight is hands off. this plane is of much better quality than ANYTHING i have seen in the past. even the foam is cut out where it is not necessary. assembly was superb. fits the 110 like a glove. simply surpasses everything else by a long shot. completely airfoiled tailsection, and it came out to a measely 9 lbs!
