What Prop on your YS63 Profiles
I'm just curious to see what props people are using on their YS63 equipped Profiles, and what props you have tried. I have tried every wooden prop out there in 13x5, 13x6 and 14x4 (Top flight, Zinger, Pro Zinger & Scimitar). I have read posts were people seemed to like the 14x4's. But I have found that for me the 13x6 Scimitar seems to be the best. It hovers good, spools up quickly and seems to give better hole shot pull than the 4's. Anyone else notice this or feel this way. Thanks.

RE: What Prop on your YS63 Profiles
I used to run a 12-5 wood on my 53, but the 63 has more oomph. on the 63 I prefer the 13-6 scimitar nylon. a little more load, fine on 30% nitro, and even better on the 63S (awesome engine, ys power, saito dependability) on standard ys 20/20. but that's here, at my temp. and altitude; your results may vary the reason I say that is when I went to cookeville a few weeks ago, I noticed a difference in power; I think the difference in altitude did it. I usually run an 11-5 on my 2-strokes, but think a 12-4 woulda been better there. coincidentally, that's what the locals were running! However, the 13-6 scimitar's on my 2 4-strokes worked about the same. At the lower rpm's the altitude difference not so noticeable? or the 4-strokes had so much juice that a little loss of power not an issue?

RE: What Prop on your YS63 Profiles
The reason I have not even tried the APC's is weight. The YS63 moves the CG forward. Using the wood props helps move it back a little. As stated above the 14x4 seem to not spool up as quickly as even the 13x6. The 13x4 just didn't have enough blade out there. I felt like the engine was reving up and not doing anything. Actually I felt that way with all the wood 4 pitch props. The 13x6 Scimitar seemed to rev quickly, provide a lot of instant pull and still not generate excessive speed. But I guess this all is rather personal preference and really subjective anyway.

yeah, props differ according to personal preference, nitro, altitude, etc. try several, pick the one that suits you. that's what I did before I settled on the 13-6 scimitars. apc not bad, the only problem I had with them on ys is they are very hard, and ys knurling on the prop drive washer not very aggressive. had a problem with the 12-6's on my 53 sliding a little! only engine/prop combo that I've experienced that with.

RE: What Prop on your YS63 Profiles
I've been spinning a 13-4w apc (11,900 slightly rich on 30%-24%) I'm almost afraid it is overspeeding the engine at full power. I have a 14-4W apc that I haven't tried yet, I'm just scared that the extra thrust from the 14" prop will pull the nose right off the plane...lol Just as a side note, on my rapala digital fish scale i measured the thrust with the 13-4w the other day and it pulled 9lbs even. The plane weights 4lbs 6 oz. Its almost laughable how much power this little engine makes and that is with only 1 gallon of fuel thru it. I also did this test with my saito 100 a while back spinning a 15-4w apc and it pulled 10lbs 7oz on 15%. The ys isn't too far off the 100.

I went to the 14x4w because I too thought the 13x4w was spinning a little fast. I lost my YS book, can anyone tell me what to set the valve lash at and when the first adjustment should be made? I was thinking it was after a gallon.

RE: What Prop on your YS63 Profiles
Tonight, i installed the 14-4W, It didn't pull the nose off Got to get use to it though. It is very different then the 13-4w. In my opinion it runs better. It doesn't have that zing from idle to full blast, but it isn't that bad either. It peaks out at 10,500 on the ground and i richened all the needles high, low and regulator slightly from where they were with the 13-4. Now the engine seems to run a bit cooler and the smoke trail is much better. It hovers at a slightly lower rpm setting and seems to pull out just as fast. I didn't put the fish scale on it to see if there is a difference in thrust at full power. I'll do it tomorrow. It seems that I might have to put a little expo in the throttle to smooth out hovering a bit. When I'm in a hover the plane really seems to be more torquey now. When i blip the throttle the whole plane tries to twist quite a bit more then with the 13-4. With expo, that should smooth out. We'll see, I'll let ya know.

10,500 sounds about right; my 4-strokes run better under a little load, and I really don't like to run my saitos over about 9,800 but the ys has a little different powerband, is happy around 10,200 or so. at least, that's my 2 cents!

I've tried both the 14-4W and 13-4W on 30% heli fuel. The 14-4W is fine in cooler temps' (below 70). The 13-4W is better for warmer weather and has a faster spool up than the 14-4W. The 13-4W runs at 11,500 rpm. I think the best all around 3D prop for this engine is the 13-4W from trying both props.
The APC 13-4 (no "W" at the end) is not enough prop for this engine and will easily turn 12,500 RPM. We just tached it at the field the other day. I don't recommend it unless you are really good at throttle management. This was another guy's engine not mine. He's been flying forever and is very good so I'm sure he'll be ok. But I would NEVER run this prop. The 13-4W is the best for 3D IMO.
People that run underproped engines: what if the throttle stuck wide open? Say goodbye to your engine.

Wow, Engine stuck open. and I did see a guy with this problem 4 stroke too if I'm not mistaken, last time at my local field. Didn't even think of this problem, so if you get to deadstick after empting the fuel you r stuck with a bad engine :-(
Although way out there statisticlly but this is a Plus for 2 strokes that I've never heard before on a 2 VS 4 stroke thread.
