A friend and I are about to start to build two this winter ( mid Oct ) and have been thinking that we would start a thread on RCU with pictures.

One of the first thing's that we are going to use is the Flutt's nose gear and not the single leg ,,,,, may even try to put retract's in place.

It would be neat if we had three or four ( or more )being built at the same time so we could compare and make mod's along the way.

I have already asked Alex ( from AK ) if anyone had tried flaperon's as the dual servos in the wing are half way there ...His answer was " I am not sure if someone used it or not, but it is unnecessary for good flying."

Well that is cool there HisHam !! Don who lives in Alaska to the north of me ( by about 700 miles) will be returning there on Sept 26th (he just got married ) ..He has his Kit already and I have just order mine two weeks ago and should be here buy the first week of Oct.

I just received my Kit and will make up a parts order after I have had a look at the plans. Don will be back next week so I will wait till then to make up the final list.

Then let the balsa dust fly.

Hmmm ..hard to slow down the mig down eh? I think I will still go with the flaperons to help this out.

would it be possible to build this aircraft as twin electric ducted fan? I'm a bit funny about putting big ugly lumps of metal on the front (or back) of jets.

It looks like the construction might be a tad on the heavy side of things for electric though. Any thoughts?

I'm back from my honeymoon (it was great! Thanks!) and will be ready to join the discussion in this building thread in a couple of days. Peter (Blade47) and I will be putting our heads together and think of some fun modifications to put on the MiG (or maybe we will just be banging our heads against the wall ).

I have to unpack, wash clothes and clean a current project off my building board. It'll be a couple of days. But I'm a "GO" for this project.

Hisham has already started to pick up some information on the Mig and I have sent you the link ....seems to me we may want to check over the C/G and a way to slow this bird down for landing. I will chat with you on AOL Don ...the power went out last night when we where chatting.

can you lend Don some Sq feet for his one room building area you should see where he has to work ...can not turn around with out a P51 or some other aircraft getting friendly with you lol.

Hey there Divad !

it may be to heavy for fans unless they can push around a 7 to 7.5 Lbs even if you take off 23oz for the engine and drop the weight to 6 Lbs .....

but then again ...you never know

Update for you ... I have started to break out the Keyed parts that need to be glued together and have found that there is a fair amount of charcoal from the laser cut.

I have also check to make sure the cut edges are close to 90dg and have found that they are off (a bit ). When mated to the part that is to be glued there is a very small gap ....So to get two birds in hand I have started to sand the cut edge as close to 90 ( a very light sanding) and at the same time cleaning up the charcoal for a better glue surface.

This being my first Laser cut kit I would think you wood (pun) want to clean the charcoal off to some degree.....let me know what you think.

FWIW Pete, I've never had a glue problem with the laser cut charcoal residue. It's okay to sand it off but I feel it's just not necessary. It's more of a personal choice.

I'll post some pics later today.

F1 and F2 are 3/32" ply that have to be epoxied together to give me a 3/16" ply piece. I understand why it's designed that way as the laser can only cut so far into ply. Well, I did as directed but I can get a bit stiffer piece by just cutting a 3/16" single piece out on my Dremel saw. F1 is the firewall and F2 is the nose gear mount so I like those pieces to be as sturdy as possible.

Plus the F1 has a big hole in the center to pass the neck of the fuel tank to the engine. I don't use those kinds of tanks (I like Kraft/Hayes style) and I pass the fuel via bronze tubes mounted in the firewall so the whole front end is fuel proof.

Anyway, just for those of you interested, I cut a new F1 out of 1/4" ply with only the throttle pushrod hole drlled...no fuel tank hole. Plus I built a new F2 out of 3/16" ply. This is my only modification so far but I expect many more as I have ways of doing things that I am comfortable with.

Of course, you can build according to the way Alex designed it and it will be fine, but I like my way better. Just FWIW.

Another modification:

I don't want the external wire connecting the rudders, so.... this is what I will be doing.

From Left to right:

94141 - Left Rudder
94141 - Throttle (a waste of a good servo but it makes it all fit)
94322 - Left Elevator
94322 - Right Elevator
94141 - Right Rudder

Then two 322s in the wings for ailerons (I'll go with Flaperons instead of
splitting the flaps...less weight that way)
