All right James,
Here are the update pics of my plane.
All control linkages are finished. critical area are heatshield painted (white areas).
Base of engine mount glued on the wing saddle.
You'll also find the two pics I took at Vaclav's workshop just before Xmas.

Sonnich,
You are right, the whip has to be isolated.
First you find the right spot.
You drill bigger than needed.
You tape the fuse over the hole from the outside.
Flip over the fuse and fill up the hole with epoxy from the inside.
Lay a small piece of glass cloth with epoxy over the filled hole.
Let cure and drill at the right diameter.
Your whip can now be screwed on.
It is well isolated assuming the glass cloth is bigger than the base of your whip.

Is that the arial i see between the 2 servos?
If i see it correct you also have it bolted to the carbon!
I would move it away from the servo's and the carbon, it is not good where you have it.
If you look back i have reported on the effects of carbon on arials also the servo noise is not good next to it.
( this thread just gets better and better)
Keep it up guys.

All
If you have been following David Gladwin's article in Jet International and intend installing the tail-planes the same as him, you may not be aware that the carbon tube that's installed in the one half is not glued in. (mine wasn't) The tail-plane is intended for permanent fixing. The way I did mine was to apoxy the tube in both stabs first, (ensure alignment) then cut tube in the center. Install in the fuse and bolt through the tube on the inside. It may be a bit of a fiddle, but if only dismantling occasionally then better than two screws in the stab. I have also epoxed an insert in the ends of the stabs and bolted through the fuse. (belt & braces)

I glued mine in permenantly on the the first L39, on m y second I was going to make the tailplanes removeable and your system sounds really good. I understand the first bit but not too sure about the belt and braces bit. Have you got any photos?
Many thanks
Ian

Sorry, just an expression for extra security. Here is a photo of the two halves of tail-plane. The one with the inserts and bolts are of Yanns. Mine's not finished yet.

As my second L39 is due anytime I have purchased a second Wren 44, this time a full autostart version.
The battery supplied with the A/S version is an 8 cell KAN (NiMh) pack. Question is, can this pack be charged with my Graupner Ultra Duo charger if I set the charging rate as for a NiCad ?
Regards,
David Gladwin.

You can also use this method with the clips which is much easier to get at, either method you should use the bolt in the root.

David,
I believe this is not advisable as nicads and NiMh batteries have different peak voltages. NiMh have a lower peak if I remember right so you run the chance of overcharging them in the long run. Best get a charger designed for NiMh in my opinion.
Regards,
Tony

David,
No you cannot fast charge NiMh with Nicad settings on your charger.
The delta peak for Nicad is bigger than for NiMh.
That means that if your charger is not set to be sensitif enough,
it would not see the delta peak. You would destroy your cells.
It is not a problem if you slow charge them.

Only if you use the automatic charge setting. 1C or under would be fine. Typically Nimh would false peak on a Nicad setting that was to high. On 1950 FAUP's Nimh if I use a charge setting of greater than 1.5C even on a Nimh setting they false peak as an example.

David,
Just looking at your article (again!) in RCJI and see that you have your antenna mounted in the carbon reinforced area of the L39. Have you identified any issues with the placement of the antenna in this location?
Thanks
James
