RE: ExtremeflightRC Yak55SP-E...Sweet!
Hey Bob NJ
www.stevensaero.com Stevens Aeromodel is the site that has the plywood motor mounts... $6 each I think, and they fit like a glove.... I used the one with 2 degree's right thrust.
I built mine as per instructions use a Castle Creations 25 and a Hitec Electowhatever6 with hitec 55's, and it balances about 3.5" right where its suposed to... but I want it further back, still a bit squirly in a hover... I'm gonna try putting the battery under the LE of the wing.

Put the battery under the leading edge of the wing makes the plane a completely different 3D plane, especially in a hover and torque roll. However I prefer the stock location for everything else.

Hi people.
First at all sorry for my bad english (i,m from spain)
Recently i ordered a Extreme Flight YAK 55 with sotck brushless motor and i would like someone help me to chose the connectors because it seems this motor runs at the limit of 10A. So
What do you recomend for battery??? JST Connector?? Or Tiny polarized connector speed 400 use??? Or other?
And for motor?? 1,8mm or 2,5mm gold connector.
Very thanks
Jose Antonio

If you are using a 15 or 20 C discharge battery it will pull more than 12 amps. I'm seing closer to 15. 12 amps is probably the limit of the battery.

Hey Shorty, just make sure you do some LOW quality/size ones for us dial up guys[]
So, on say a TP1320, whats the average run time with hover pull out power remaining on the stock setup?

Your looking at about ten to twelve minutes on that size pack.
I'm running 1570mAh 3S1P Apogee and getting around fifteen to eighteen minutes but that with a weight penalty with the larger pack.

OK, so tried the Eflite 12X6...good prop, but the motor gets too hot...so am going to have to get a 11X4..or 11X6...moved the piggy Kokam 1250hd to under the LE...much better flyer now...stable mabel harriers, no rock, steady eddy hovering...now it torque rolls....flys much better with the CG back...'cept the coupling in KE is more pronounced..don't know why, just is.
I know have velcro from the middle of the wing on the bottom all the way forward to the other velcro...I like being able to move it around...you will too.

Yesterday was a spectacular day here in western Washington -- 50 degree and no wind -- perfect weather for flying my new Yak-55SPe. Prior to yesterday I had one quick flight as dusk was falling. The maiden flight went well, but I wanted several more flights before I posted my thoughts and observations.
Construction went well, but there were a couple of issues. My biggest problem was the covering -- I burned a hole in one wing tip with my wife's embossing gun. I figured it was small and I could easily control the heat. Well -- I was wrong! A little transparent red Ultracote lite hides that booboo pretty well... The second was I managed to iron a small warp into my fuse... [:@] The lesson is leave the covering alone! The only other issues were the pushrod guides and the control horns. The push rod guides were a bit of a pain, but I got them securely attached. The control horns fit very tightly in their slots and the medium CA would be wiped off when inserted. During construction I broke three of the four loose and had to re-glue them. And the fourth came loose on the maiden flight. My solution to getting them securely glued in was to wick a drop of thin CA into the base of each horn. They are staying put now! I deviated from the instructions and used 1/8!QUOT! wheel collars to secure the pushrods to the control horns at the L-bend. I might change to the Dubro micro L keepers if they fit... I also have a litte slop in the ailerons as the Z bend has some play at the servo arm...
With an Etec 11.1v 1250 mah pack and a Hitec 555 sans case my Yak weighs 14 oz and the CG is spot on. I have a small Cirrus receiver with a base loaded antenna, but something is wrong and there is too much interference to use it... I will sort this out and hopefully use it -- I would really like to lose the long antenna...
Yesterday I got 5 trouble free and enjoyable flights before darkness forced my to stop flying. I am very impressed with how straight and true my Yak flies. It flies straight as an arrow out of my hand when launching. This plane is a blast to fly and I was able hover it pretty well in short order. Even at what I have for low control throws the plane is very responsive and will KE loop. About my only complaint is that that KE pulls sharply to the canopy. I tried reflexing the ailerons up a little, but it didn't seem to help. It also appeared that as I cycled my batteries they go a little stronger each flight. With the 1250 packs I was getting 18+ minutes flying time. I managed the throttle and spent most time at half or less...
I was looking at the EFlite 370 with a 12X6 prop one a Tribute that one of the guys brought to the field yesterday. That motor looks powerful and spins a much bigger prop than the motor that came with my Yak. Has anyone tried the 370?
All in all this thing is a joy to fly and I am looking forward to many more flights!

John, I'm thinkin' you got battery pack problems of some sort. I get 15 minutes plus out of my TP 1320's (could go longer, but 15 minutes and I need to take a break) and its a rocket - on a Razor 400, 6.6:1, APC 12x6, Phoenix 25 controller.

I get 10 mins max with the Thunderpower 1320 3S on stock B20 brushless set--up. A lot has to do with your flying style, at 18 minutes your not working the plane very hard and only pulling 6-7C?

RE: ExtremeflightRC Yak55SP-E...Sweet!
Hi,
I am new to RCU / the Forum. I was referred here by a friend. I have been convinced to expand my hobby into electric airplanes. I am researching the Extreme Flight Yak and the Ultra-RC Edge. Can anyone share any comments about their experiences with these planes and the service. It appears that Extreme is out of the Yaks and Ultra just received their shipment of Edges. They most definately are made in the same factory so I am sure the quality is the same. It is apparent the decision to be made is already mentioned in my comments, but I would really appreicate any input.
Thank you.

Got probly 70 flights on mine now IT'S FUN!!! I like the battery pack under the LE of the wing... I'm amazed its lasted this long, cause I like TR'in about a foot off of the ground. I can actually do rolling harier circles with it now Darn fun little plane, I HIGHLY recomend, and its way more durable than my old 3dfoamy plane. Takes the ocational hard landing or filp over in strong wind well.

True story John, I get tired of reviews that say the plane can do whatever you can do...bullshyt...If the plane is called a Harrier, then show me a harrier fer cryin' out loud, or give the review to someone who can.
The EF Yak is a f-u-n-f-l-y...a cutting edge, electric, terrific build up design for those who still want a plane to look like a plane over the too numerous to mention foamys...don't get me wrong, I love every foamy I have, but YOUR VIDEO shows just what the FUN is all about...outside the box thinking, jeez, I wonder if......I can take off from my hood.. and then go and DO IT!
Can I land on the trunk of my car?????
Why the hell not?
Your review is fresh and shows the extreme capability's of what the EF Yak is capable of...
F-u-n F-l-y!!!!!!
There you go, thanks, that's what I was looking for.
