Reedy Race and 1/2A Fly In Update
OK Guys, an Update on the Carolina 1/2A Crew flyin and Reedy Race. Remember the Reedy Race is just a small part of the agenda Roger has planned. We also will be flying all kinds of 1/2A models and stuff so please come and join us for this fun event and Rogers cooking!!
NOTE: REEDY RACERS. We need to find out frequencies everyone is going to race with. Hopefully we can all fly with no issues but there is a chance someone may share the same frequency so for the ones who can change lets find out who is on what. Can everyone who plans to race please report what channel(s) you have available? Also I like the helmet idea but that may be an issue with some guys. Anyone have access to some hardhats/helmets we could borrow? Almost 2 weeks away….. are you ready???
Thanks,
Bob Harris

Bob,
I am on ch36. It's the only set I have. I too like the hardhat idea. I was looking for them over the weekend but can't seen to find them anyplace.
Later,
Tim

Ask around for hard hats, almost everyone knows someone who is in construction. Are you guys going to be standing on the infield, between the poles, flying around yourselves? If you are flying the course from the outside of the pylons, then it won't be too dangerous if you limit the heats to 2 or 3 planes. The quality of the racing will be much better flying from the inside though. 2 or 3 planes per heat and score a 1 for finishing and a 2 for 2nd place and a 3 for 1st place is a good scoring format. If you run enough heats so that everyone flies a hand full of times, then everyone should have had a satisfying racing experience.

Bob, I'm on 58. I'm still wondering what the final decision was on the product engine being allowed?
Limiting the number of planes per heat should help eliminate freq problems.

I like the scoring that Combatpigg suggested. Maybe 3 or 4 flights each. As for the pilot location, I prefer the outside standing in the pilot stations. This along with a spotter will allow all racing models I hope to stay in front of us so we only need to look out for 180 degrees instead of 360. I will start a channel list.
Unless someone complains I thing the Cox product Engine will be allowed as long as it is vented not pressurized as the standard Black Widow, Golden Bee etc. I would think the separate tank would be a disadvantage with extra weight.
I have a hardhat for work I can bring and maybe 1 more. We will need at least 6 including spotters. 8 would be great! Any hardhat will work. Motorcycle helmets, football helments, baseball batting helmets. Boy, will that be a Motley crew!!

If I saw someone in a suit of armor,I'd try and hit him..I have a few bike helmets and maybe a hardhat not sure I guess if everyone brings what they can we'll have enough...now then there are few folks MIA here Raymond, Vicman,HFenn, Deadstick,,Bob is Bailey coming?
I agree with the flying in front of,,but maybe we could try a heat or 2 in the infield?...BTW CP thanks again for the winning plane,,and I have a neighbor about 5 houses away who builds suits of armor ..there was an old Williamsburg busch gardens commercial where 3 guys on horses fully suited come riding around a corner in medevil times..he made those ..they range from about $3k to around $10k,,hand built using all the 2-300 year old stock tools,,he has a row of about 100 different hammers and a waiting list of several years, he builds about 5 at a time and they average around 6 months to make,,yes even with electric welding and electric grinders and buffers..he has a website but I forgot what it is....Rog

Yep Rog, I spoke with Dad this week. He has put the date on his calendar and plans on coming. My last conversation with Raymond was he was planning to make it. I have not heard from Deadstik. Whose all coming to the flyin? How many fliers do we have for the bank and yank (Reedy Race)?

Bob,
Sorry I haven't gotten back up with this post but am in the middle of mid terms for my students.....glad I'm not taking MY tests.... Anyway.. I plan on being there... as for Freq... I think 50.. but will have to check... too many radios.. I'll look at what everybody else has posted and find something in between.... Haven't built a "racer" yet.. but might just fly that Fairchild of mine.. it is way too quick for it's weight... anyway .. looking forward to seeing everyone.

I saw a rocket like that flying in a POPEYE cartoon, [or was it a ROADRUNNER show?] and in order for it to turn, the fuselage could bend. If I remember correctly, it could do sharp 90 degree turns around buildings. I think you guys are in big trouble if this guy shows up!![X(]

Who said anything about rocket![X(] I am a purist!! I started out with a set of Raymond's Sharkface plans[sm=idea.gif]...then started thinking speed. I'm not too sure about rounding the pylons yet but I think I can make it up in the straights.[sm=stupid.gif] I see Vtail in my 9C but no three tail...hhmmmm.

Tim, it should look REAL familiar to you! I am trying to work out the 7th, if I do you got the shotgun seat for sure! Don't know if I will have anything to race or not, I need to get some recievers for some of this small stuff I got laying around.
