Mate,
if you built it stock standard with monocoat and no scale goodies then it would probably be fine. I've heard these things can nudge 30 lbs if kitted out with the lot
Having said that the DA 50 prob has almost the same grunt as a G62 but is a lot lighter hence you would need a bucket load of nose weight so you would lose any advantage.
cheers

excellent, btw I could have sold you a G62 as I'm an agent for em here
Just back from a business trip to Sydney and here to greet me was a box of goodies from Aerotech models.
Cowl chin divider for that real scale nose look.
500lbs bombs
wing pylons
and bits for my P51 inc 75gal drop tanks and pylons.
a few pics atrached and you can see the instruction sheet from Aerotech on how to set up the pylon for bomb release.
cheers

GDay Pete,
Sorry to butt in on the thread - just discovered rcuniverse recently & loving it.
I've been working on the smaller TF P47 since about '97 on-&-off (no really - the RCMN review by Considine was what conned me into it - remember that?)
Anyway, recently got all keen after going to Wagga, and decided to get serious with it. I now have a HEAVY plane with the works - lights, bomb drop, all panel detail, hatches, full cockpit etc etc. You know the story....aaaaanyway, I've got one nagging problem that I haven't solved.
I cannot for the life of me rig up a way to get those #@*%ing tailwheel doors to close[:@]. I tried every possible way to use fishing lines to pull them shut via the retract servo - no go. Then I saw your post on the nifty system you used, and I have to ask - how on EARTH did you figure out exactly where to stick the ball-links. I could spend a month of trial-and-error and I'm sure they wouldn't close tight. Please tell me there's a more scientific way of doing it.
Just waiting on paint chips to arrive from Frank T. so I can start mixing and spraying.
Cheers,
Cam

Hang about - maybe it WASN'T yours?.... just looked back and couldn't find the photo in this thread. Gotta stop jumping topics
Do you know the pic I'm referring to? Ball links on doors and tailwheel body, not unlike the fullsize's setup.

RE: TF GS P47 Build - yeah another bloody one!!
ahh yes mate I do know the pics you are referring to. There were done by adsala I think his rcu nick is. I'll have a look and see if I can find the pics for you.
By the way working it out is a lot of trial and error, you can also use measurement and prototypes. A pair of dividers, paper and aruler is about all you need to work it out.
Do a cross sectional scale drawing showing the movement axis, arcs etc of the gear, doors etc then from that you can work out how much travel you need.
On the smaller P47 you may be in fact better off using a spring arcoss which the tail wheel will strike pulling the doors closed.
On adsala's pics you can see how he did. I'll be trying to get my doors open about another 10 degrees as on the full size the doors were almost parallel to the ground, hence I will have to move the links towards the wheel a few mm so I get more travel. Trial and error mainly till I get it right.
cheers

RE: TF GS P47 Build - yeah another bloody one!!
Thanks Pete - that was the photos.
I tried the wire across the doors - another failure. Like you I'm aiming for the scale door positions which is the problem - not easy getting so much movement in the doors generated by the leg retraction arc.
I'll see how I go with the arms as per photos. Paint chips arrived today so it's time to get some paint mixed - it's going to be acrylic lacquer over an aluminium base, and weathered back. That's the fun bit.
Cheers,
Cam

RE: TF GS P47 Build - yeah another bloody one!!
Cam, glad to help. Retract doors can be painful in the extreme. On my P51 I ended up using air rams for each door as I could not get the geometry correct for fixed arms connected to the gear.
What colour scheme are you doing? Mine will be " Hairless Joe" Scheme. I have a bit of documentation on this bird but still trying to get good ref for the camo scheme as it was non standard, as were the underwing US insignia. The group this plane was part of actually had 2 large insignia underneath which was not normal.
It should be a bit unusual on the oz warbird rounds. Can not think of any big P47s up here anyway.
I also use the Acrylic laquer, easy to get tinted and very easy to use.
Where did you get your paint chips from if you don't mind sharing?
Have not been able to do a lot to the plane of late due to work committments taking me o/s and interstate trips. Honeymoon all of next week so don't think my intended would appreciate me dragging along the 47 to work on!!
But then again she flies too! Bronze wings rated too.
cheers for now
Peter

Hi Pete,
Mine's the razorback, and will be done as 'Miss Behave" of 78th FG. Not very original I know, but I plan to compete with it and the good Aeromodeller documentation made this a shoe-in. Also I wanted the 78th FG checked cowl and D Day stripes bottom only, and this A/C fitted the bill on all counts.
The paint chips were from Frank Tiano in the US - not cheap but include all US, RAF, Luftwaffe, Jap, Italian etc samples so will get lots of use. Frank's site has all the details, and he's a very helpful guy. My next project is a Skyshark ME109G (GREAT kits by the way, and very accurate) at 1/6, which will be to full F4C std, so starting to look at schemes for that too.
Put the Robart U/C adjustable valve and filler in last night - all switches, valves etc are behind scale litho' hatches so no non-scale appendages so far.
Off paragliding O/S for 2 weeks tomorrow, so paint will have to wait till I get back. Enjoy your honeymoon
Cheers,
Cam

Gday Cam,
thanks for that. I bought a pilot for my Corsair from FTE so will have to have a look at the paint samples too. That can wait for a bit though as we will have some horrible CC bills to get rid of first! [:@]
Good luck with those models, should be nice when you are done.
cheers

Tim, not much chance of that happening though she has booked us on a helicopter trip out to the Islands plus a seplance trip as well so that will have to do for aviation oh and of course the flights to and from.
Knowing my indended she will have a few other "activities" planned for me too hehehe
cheers

RE: TF GS P47 Build - yeah another bloody one!!
Hey Peter, well back from my trip up north. Got to enjoy some time with the relatives and made a trip to the AF museum in Dayton, Ohio and also an air museum in Kalamazoo, Michigan. Turns out I got the best pics of a P-47 in Kazoo. MY little digital camera doesn't do well in low light conditions I found, and both P-47s at Dayton were in dark areas. Also got a pic of a P-40 paint job you may want to consider for your next project. Also thanks for the pics on the bomb racks. Looks like the small hitecs will fit right inside the rack. Great. DWR.

Great shots of "HVA"
That is the one that I am modelling. Almost finished the airframe, just working on the control surfaces. It has been on the backburner for way to long, so I dug it out and have been progressing fairly quickly. I am planning on using a Zenoah G-38 for power. It should work out fine. I will post some pics in a couple of days. This is a great thread.

Peter, enjoy your honeymoon.. For your paints.. avail yourself to the RAF paint colors used during WWII. The 56th FG used these paints to repaint their aircraft when deployed in the ETO. Your plane would be the RAF Dark Green and Medium Sea Gray (I believe that's the correct grey).

Craig, if you are glassing the P-47 I understand that most come out at 25+ lbs. and need extra nose weight with the smaller engine. Many have used the G-62 with good results in balance and power. I had a G-62 on hand so thats what I'm using on my project. Just joined the wing halves today. I checked out your gallery and loved that Lancaster and Vickers Gun Bus. Great models. DWR.

G-62 ???
Now you have me thinking. It will not be ready until next year, which gives me plenty of time to think about it. Thanks for the compliments regarding my planes. Glassing is the only option for me. I will do all the rivets and panel lines as well. Should (I Hope) it will be a great looking bird when she is done. I just glued the firewall on this morning. I have a few small spaces, and have applied some polyurathane glue to fill the void. Should be planty srtong when done.
Craig.
