Default DA150 Real World Numbers

I finally got the 5 gallons of Lawn boy Ashless 32:1 ran thru my DA150. Switched over to 100:1 Amsoil and a Menz S 32 x 10 prop was real disappointed. Tached the engine at full throttle and got 5120 RPM's max after tuning the needles. Put the 30 x 10 prop back on and got 6020 RPM's. What numbers is everybody else getting? A Japanese guy that flys a DA150 in his Carden Cap runs a Menz S 30 x 12 on his DA150 and really has some power. Will go vertical till he stops it. Any ideas on why my RPM's or so low? I am running stock DA mufflers.

Lots of variables there, not each 32x10 made by the same manufacturer will show the same #s, etc. Its really not broken in completely just because you run x many gallons of break in fuel, fly it and see how it does in 10 more gallons or so.

You should easily get 6000 on a 32X10. One thing that has caused loss of RPM on DA's in the past is a cracked prop hub. The aluminum hub cracks which causes it to move slightly and sheer the key. The the hub will move enough to change the ignition timing (the magnet moves with the hub) and you loose RPM. Other than that, make sure your needle settigns are close to factory (within 1/8th turn to start). If none of this helps, stay up late one night and call DA.

I see your location is FPO AE, military?

I have never seen any DA pull a 32x10 at 6000. I have seen many at 5400-5800 after well broken in. Maybe on full length tuned pipes.

Trying to acheive some "number " is futile.
There may be absolutely nothing wrong with your engine
As you chase numbers -leaning the needles etc., you do -in many cases -irreparable harm as the engine simply gets too hot.
The 150 -in mild dry weather - typically runs somewher between 6100 - 6500 on Mejzlic 30x10 prop
That is typical - not a flash reading .
as weather changes or you heat it up this will drop -If weather is 50 degrees F and dry - It will run faster -typically .
That 32x10 prop is a hell of a load -make no mistake on that - I have never seen one even run 6000 here -on those props
Run your engine at what ever it handles easily slightly rich such that it NEVER sags on verticals
.
If you don't have enough power - drop the prop size --always .
Unless the engine runs close to 6000--you are out of best power range .
Forget the bragging numbers you may hear -
If it starts easily -and will adjust (needle easily from full to slightly rich) - -It is likely just fine .
Fly it using recommended fuel mixes - there is no magic break in time -and likely -if-again -it starts -idles - transitions nicely (you MUST learn to set the needles for best result -there is no magic needle setting) just fly it and put on a slightly smaller prop if you need more power .

It runs real good on the 30 x 10, no sagging on up lines and a slight burble at wide open throttle when level, transitions nicely from idle. So I'll just stick with the 30 x 10 props, it has the pull needed. Thanks

I run a 32-10 Menz-S on my DA150. On a good day it'll crank out 5600...Could probably tweek a bit more but its happy where its at. The best running DA150 I have personally seen with DA mufflers would spin a Mezlick 32-10 5900. 610ft above sea level

What kind of engine temps should you have on a da 150?I checked mine last night after I landed and taxied back and one cyl. was 180 and the other was 207. Is that normal to have one higher than the other?

Yes- normal for one cyl to read hotter than the other. I see no reason to worry with the numbers you posted.

That's due to the offset of the cylinders in relation to the carb, they all do that, also 1 cylinder might be a little more broken in than the other therefor running leaner, my 3W's do the same thing, 1 plug darker than the other. That's how I know it's seated in, when the plugs look the same.
