I received my replacement fuse from the LHS this weekend. I'll be starting construction later this week. Power is a Ryobi 31cc gasser. I'm going to build the complete airframe first and see where it's going to balance with the gasser on the nose. I "might" end up moving the firewall back, I'll have to see. Using Hitec servos HS645MG on the elevator and rudder, HS322HD on flaps and ailerons; The hardware looks great!!! - all 4-40 heavy duty, solder clevises, same stuff on the GP Patty Wagstaff I think. Looks like Great Planes really thought this one out for a gasser setup!!! The firewall is already screwed on and reinforced with metal L brackets!! [X(]

Sure. 59 x24x6.5 inches Will HAVE to be double boxed- it comes in single layer cardboard- very light and very thin

Try a Brison 2.4 which equals out to 40CC. Swing a 20x10 pro zinger and you have a good combo.
The brison has lots of power and is light in weight.

Flashingred has a good point. I had a Brison 2.4 in a Sig Extra 300XS and all I can say is WOW ! I am trying to go a little cheaper with the Ryobi. If I had the bucks to spend, I would definitely get a Brison bar none. Plus Brison is local to me and Gary is a nice guy to boot.

The idea of this plane to me, was to build a "giant" scale plane, as cheaply as possible, and to keep the running expenses cheap as well... The Ryobi was "free" to start- found the weedeater in the garbage- so, with the conversion parts, and a new carb, I'll have a motor capable of spinning an 18x8 prop for around $100. The plane was $239 at the LHS, etc..... I want a cheap "beater" plane, to fly at rough fields, etc....

Same here , wanted to get a big plane as cheap as possible, I flying a 60 stick with a 90 on it now , what a blast , such a good flying airplane , They need to make an even bigger one ! How funny would that be .

I just flew mine for the first time today. It flies just like my Big Stick 60 (with YS .91) only a little bit slower. A word of warning to anyone going to use a light engine. I have a YS 1.40 (2 pounds) on this beast and had to add 2.5 pounds of lead on the front of the firewall. They moved the wing forward compared to the smaller Stiks. This plane is definitely designed for a 4-5 pound gasser.
The instructions hinted that I might need tail weight. With a 5 pound engine I would.
The main thing I did not like about this kit is the main gear. Too wimpy. Mine is a taildragger. I replaced the gear with one about
twice as thick.

BTW, I got an Addendum to the Manual that said the printed CG of 7" aft of the LE was incorrect, but after several flights, I have found that 7" IS correct. At the Addendum's recommended 5 7/8" it was very nose heavy.

Thanks for the update. I also noticed the addendum about the CG.Mine isn't done yet, but just received my Ryobi conversion parts from www.wackerengines.com Peter is a great guy to deal with BTW. Looks like my 4lb Ryobi might be the ticket then for balancing properly. Are you using the flaps? And.. were you able to hold a knife edge in flight? Thanks!!!

I just ordered mine from Tower Hobbies.
I am going to put a Roto 25 on it since I have one. I know that sounds too small but the Roto 25 flew my Hanger 9 1.50 P51 around fine and it was plenty quick! The P-51 was 14 lbs and it sounds like this stick will be less than that. Has anyone weighed their completed stik?
The Roto 25 weight is 2.8 lbs. I guess I am going to be adding a lot of nose weight :-(

Hi ya suitcase. Not trying to start any trouble, but, UL stick is lighter, and less expensive. Finless makes a good case for 2 piece wing. That is a good thing for a lot of folks, not a big deal with me. When I have to get a replacement for my UL stick I will probably get a Jerry's big boy.

From the few photos that I have seen of the new Giant Big Stik, is the horizontal stab attached into a precut slot within the fuselage, or is it attached to a cutout on the bottom of the fuse as is typical of most ugly stik designs?

I have mine 3/4 complete. Is going together easily... Nice ARF... I have mounted a 25cc homelight on mine... Have used stand off mounts as shown in instructions... I hope the CG comes out close... Has anyone else used stand off mounts? How did they work?[img][/img]

Don't be afraid of using the tail wheel configuration. This thing is very easy to take off and land as a taildragger. And I really liked it with a gasser.

I used the stand-off mounts that came with it and mounted a Fuji BT-32b. I only needed to add about an ounce to the tail to get the CG right (I could have just moved the battery too).
However, in MY opinion, the CG recommended in the Addendum (5 - 7/8") leaves the plane a bit nose heavy. After adding about 3 oz to the tail, she flew great.
BTW, The review has been turned in, and I would imagine it will be posted soon.
