Default engine stalling

[>:] I am working on a t-maxx with a hpi .15 engine. It won't idle and stalls when the igniter is removed. If you gas it right away it will run fine until you let off the gas then it stalls. The plug is good, the igniter is good, fuel is good, engine temp is about 250 degrees, and all carb adjustments are at base settings. I have tried to tune this thing for hours need some fresh thoughts on this. thanx.

it sounds like it is the idle set screw. if it is too far out, when you let off the gas it stalls.

but if that was the case then it wouldnt run at all.
it only quits when the removes the glow plug igniter

Base settings for carbs are typically on the rich side so I would suspect that your main needle is set too rich. Try leaning it out 1/16th turn at a time and see how it helps. Make sure that you let the engine warm up before you make any settign changes and allow around 30 seconds of running between each setting change. This will give it a chance to take full effect so you can see if it helped or not. Once you get the main needle set then you shopuld work on the low speed. That should get you in the area that you need to be in.

Just because the plug glows when you apply the glow starter, doesnt mean that it's "good".

It sounds like you are over heating. You should be between 200 and 220 degress.

I wouldn't say it's definitely runnng hot. Many engines simply run much hotter than others. I had one that wouldn't run well at all until it was around 300°f. Lasted over 6 gallons so I can't say it was over heating. I still stand by my guess that it's running a bit rich.

Same prob with my rush evo w/ same motor. Base settings from HPI are questionable. My book says three turns out on hsn, but mine would cut off just the same as yours. Mine is now set at about 1 1/4 and the lsn is set 1/16 richer than base. finally got it running again.

adjust your idle screw, and see that the mixture is not too rich. If its lean it will idle byt the revs just keep climbing .
