I have the FUNTANA 140S imported by Hacker-Brushless USA/Aero-Model and with the Hacker C50 and TP 10S2P x 4000 Pro-Lite LiPos, I am at 10.25 pounds. I can 3D it for 11 minutes and have another minute or 2 of full power. The Katana of this thread looks more like the older "Funtana Pro"... I think the Funtana 140S is sorta like the next generation Electric version... though it does have a pipe tunnel down the middle.

I think that the G62 would be a fine engine to put on this airframe. As it sits right now it is balanced slightly ahead of the spar, making it slightly nose heavy for safety and in my mind just in case. (since it didn't come with instructions) With the added weight of the G62 compared to the G45 adding some tail weight would be in order, although with the length of it very little weight in the tail will go a long way. Here are the pics of the finished product. I have not flown it yet, the first flight will be without cowl so I can make adjustments to carb and thrust if needed and then attach the cowl after it is all trimmed out. I will post more on it after I get it in the air.

As of right now I have not been able to get out and fly it due to the cold weather and my work schedule along with snow, but still waiting on a good day hopefully soon that I will be able to get out and fly it.

This thread seems to be dead. I just purchased one of these and I am putting a DA50 with slimline pits muffler, 8411 servos all around. I am also installing a Sullivan skywriter smoke system, dualities and regulators for ignition and rx, 11.1v lipolly for the smoke system. I will start with the factory landing gear and hinges but will go with carbon and titanium push-rods on the control surfaces. Someone out there must have one of these that has actually flown it. I think it will be a great flier with the DA power-plant. Does anyone have input on specific CG locations for a safe maiden flight? Someone else had to buy this big bird for $299.00 for an inexpensive 50cc 3d plane. Anyone??

Right now I have the CG located directly on the spars, I ran mine the other day with a Zenoah G-45 on it and I will tell you that the motor mount box in the front needs reinforcing, as mine shook apart. I have yet to fly it, and waiting for a good day to do so, so far its been windy around my area but its looking better in the next week or two.

GOOD NEWS. I just got back from the airfield today, and this plane flies AWESOME. Highly recommend this one to anyone that has a spare 45 to 50 size gas engine laying around. My Zenoah G-45 had plenty of power for what I was out to accomplish. Flight was very stable and flew like it was on rails. Given the chance I would buy this plane a second or 3rd time. It has a pretty low stall speed, landing was easy. Although I didn't try full throttle flight yet, by fear of flutter, I am sure that it will fly just the same.

kershawa, what is your rtf weight? how much did your engine (with muffler, ignition) weigh?
i'm seriously considering this plane. do you think an spe 40cc would be a good match for this plane. the specs on it look very impressive: 51 oz total weight, 3.5hp, plus it's just a fraction of the cost of a DA engine.
this will be my first gasser.

one mine, it's 16.5cm from the front of the motor box to the front of the cowl. but i think the cowl was meant to sit about 14cm out from the motor box. i had to put the engine as far forward as i could to help with the tail heavy problem. b/c of this i had to extend my cowl out further than it's supposed to sit relative to the motorbox/ fuse.

i'm running a brilleli 46cc 3lbs 10oz total weight including ignition, muffler. ready to fly weight 13lbs 6oz.

i really hope she flies well. i got it for a good price but it took A LOT of work due to the tail heavy problem, no servo tray, i also needed to reinforce the motor mount box, and make mods to make the wings fit properly. the way the rudder and elevator sit in relation to each other also prevented full 3d throws on the elevators b/c they'd hit the clevices on the pull/ pull rudder.
well i dont mind all the work as long as she flies well. i just hope she can 3d though..... but she looks like she probably would fly precision much better than 3d (long tail moment, not enough fuse side area).
we'll see.......

i was only able to fly it for about 7 minutes before the engine stopped yesterday. i decided not to fly again until i got some "issues" fixed permanently. the spark plug cap keeps on coming off. the engine will also need some fine tuning. it sounded really rich in the air. my cowl was also not secured properly and was coming off in flight. it was also super windy so i decided to play it safe and not try to fly again that day.
but overall it tracks very well, even in the 15mph winds. the power of the brilleli 46gt is amazing for this 13.5 lb plane. it should be able to hover at about 1/2 throttle. knife edge required a lot more rudder correction than i'd like (which isnt surprising considering the short fuse side area). i'm working on some home-made "side-force generators" that should help considerably with that. i didnt really get a chance to do much else on my first flight, but i'll be out again on tuesday. i'll let you all know how it goes.

Well i flew mine on friday.i installed a bme 44cc and it made it about half way around the field and the aileron seperated itself from the wing. needless to say it made a nose dive into the ground and destroyed it. DO NOT USE THE SUPPLIED HINGES. they were stiff and shiny and did not wick any ca whatsoever into them. i should have known better than to use them anyway but a dumb move on my part cost me a new plane. i have contacted johnson and pacific aeromodels contacted me also and they wanted me to send them pictures of the hinges so they could try to determine what might have happened. the outer layers actually seperated from the center layer.i think they were a bad set of hinges. anyway i have another on the way and we'll try again.

ouch! sorry to hear about your loss. is johnson going to replace it for you at no charge? i also was thinking twice about it when i saw ca hinges supplied with a plane of this size. i was lazy and decided to install them anyway. but i used small screws that run through the hinges to make sure they stay in there though. i will eventually replace them with better hinges but for now i just want to fly! my srews should hold them in place though....
i'm using an nx 21x8 prop. it was spinning 6700rpm before any tuning at all. since it ran really rich, i think i'll be able to get at least another 200-400rpms more after proper tuning and breaking in.
i'll try to post some pics when i get back from work later today. by the way, how do you post pics?

I have a Brillelli 46cc on a Carl Goldburg Extra 330 and happy with it but since i've discovered this Katana 1.40 and you having a 46cc on it, I did some wing loading figures on it. This plane has 1393 sq in of wing area, your plane weighs 13.5 lbs and that comes out to only 22.5 oz of wing loading.. That's really LOW.. It must fly like a kite. Or a Electric Foamey.lol
