Hi,
I'm about to embark on a WH edge, after selling off some of my electric models on Ebay.. We have a dealer in the UK, and from what I've seen of the Kit, looks pretty good.
I have a DZ140 which was going to go in my Capiche, but it didn't need any more power than the FZ140 that lives in it.
I need a nice 3d model that I'm not emotionally attached to by having to build it!

Spar, are you the Same Spar from the Nigel Hawes Tucano Threads on RcGroups??

Regards,

Steve

I'm waiting on some replacement graphics from B&E gotta get those on then need to double check all the nuts and bolts, geometries and throws then that's it. Thanks

I recently sold one to a guy who said he's using a RC ignition version of the G26. I think he said it was down to 2.6 lbs. including ignition. At that weight it should work nicely.

I'm testing the G-26 RC Ignition engine on an Ultra Lite Stick 120. Had my first flights today. I'm turning an APC 18 X 6W at 8300. It should only get better, I tached the motor and it is at 4500 at half throttle and I was able to hover easily under half throttle, pulls out with authority. The Ultra Lite Stick weights 10 pounds even so I'm expecting like performance from the G-26 in the Edge 73.

Thanks Tom & N5DMT:

Tom; How much did his plane weigh?

N5DMT; Please keep me advised as to how your Edge flys. What muffler are you planning to use?

John,
I'm the guy Tom sold the Edge to and I haven't started the build. I was using the Ultra Stick Lite to test out the RC Ignition G-26. I'm planning on using the Slimline pitts muffler, it knocks the rpm's down but it brings the noise down to an acceptable level .... I plan on running the Mejzlick 18X6 on the WH 73" Edge. I will let you know how the motor preforms with the Mezlick. I should get close to 9000 rpm and it should produce 17 pounds of thrust. I'm going with Lith-Ion batteries and I have a CF Landing gear and I'm shooting for 11 pounds even. That would put me at a 1.5 to 1 thrust to weight ratio which should be great for IMAC type flying and I should be able to hover about half throttle.... the big question being how quickly it can pull out of a hover.... I think it will be fine for my style of flying. Right now the G-26 pulls the Ultra Stick 120 quickly out of the hover at AUW of 10 pounds.

FYI RC Universe has done a review and video of the 73" Edge, they should be releasing it any time now. They had some engine problems with the ST 2300 which slowed them down.

Tom,

Love this plane. I have the OS 1.60 on a cline regulator and the tank just in front of the wing tube. Plane came out at just over 11 lbs and I think I can get it under 11 with carbon landing gear. Thats light. Has anyone thought about a canister muffler for an os 1.60 in this plane I think I can get one to fit. Looks like the KS for the 30 cc engine will fit but will have to make a custom header. This should cut another 3-4 ozs and get the weight back to the cg of the plane. I mounted the rudder servo in the back servo position in the fuse and almost got it to balance. I need to find a lighter motor mount which should also get weight down even further and move the cg back where it needs to be. Do not want to add weight in the tail just to get it to balance (better to move weight than add it).

Thanks Again Tom for a great plane.

I was wondering if someone could explain to me the differences in a "pull pull" rudder as compared to a rudder servo in the tail? What are the advantages to a "pull pull". I have never used or installed a "pull pull" system so I was curious. Also since I am using the 1.60 FX do I want to put my rudder servo in the tail for balance purposes?

On mine, I used pull-pull with the OS 160. You won't need that much tail weight, that's for if you're using a gasser or heavier engine. Pull-pull is a slop free connection. I prefer it over any other type of rudder connection.

Need some help here......

I am installing this Perry pump with my OS 1.60, do I still run the hose from the muffler to the tank? Also does anybody have a picture how their's is done?

My other question is why do people have a long vent hose off the tank?

Thanks,
CY

You do not use muffler pressure, that's why the tank needs a vent line.

So the vent line from the tank is just open? How do you route it to keep fuel from escaping?

vent tube exits tank.... loops over itself once in the space above the UC mount.. joins up to brass tube through bottom of front firewall (drill hole for this at the bottom centre of the firewall), brass tube is then cranked so it's open end is forward facing and outside the cowl, in airflow (You did cut a big D out of the bottom of the cowl, didn't you). This gives a slight positive pressure.. works for me with the DZ 140 in the Edge...no leaks.. A tip from an F3A flier over here showed me ...

Regards,

Steve

As stated above, it is as slop free of a connection as you can get for the rudder..

If you have a single servo in the tail acting as a tiller, when the servo pushes back the force of the wind resistance will put stress on the hinges.. You either need Pull-Pull, or 2 servos in the tail doing Push-Pull to avoid this..

I hope I explained this correctly..

The vent line in your tank is at the top of the tank and exits at the bottom of the plane.

Since it's at the top of the tank fuel cannot siphon out when the plane is sitting on the ground.

When the engine is running there is negative pressure in the ttank because the engine is sucking the fuel out which must be replaced by air (hence the need for the vent line) so noting will escape no matter what the plane's attitude.

Thanks for all of the replies, I really appreciate it. I have already put my rudder servo in the tail I hope this was not a mistake. I have included some pics of my progress.
