hello kevin, i have a merc sitting around to go into a mig, it surely looks to big. also, the weight would make it difficult to balance. by the time she would be balanced you would began to lose the characteristics that makes the model desirable. take care, barry

Barry---If it's not too much trouble could you post a pic of the Merc in the engine compartment??? This is such a large model that I was hoping that the extra wieght wouldn't affect it too much.

Thanks---Kevin

Hi guys,

Thanks,
If the plane performs as good as Mach 1's side inlet kit bash looks it could make this kit even more popular than it already is---Amazing how this one mod and rounding a few corners a little more transforms this good looking plane into one you say WOW---That covering job/scheme of Mach 1's is also top drawer...[8D]

Yeah, the kit's been out almost a year now and the press releases are just starting to pop up. Don't blame the mags - I put off sending in PRs until I was sure to have a nice supply of kits on hand.

You might like my article on page 47 of the same mag about carving STOL wingtips. Might look cool on an R54!

18 1/2 pounds with a P60. Check out the Rigotti video on Bruce's website. NOT unlimited vertical, but plenty of GO!

P.S. In flight on board video too!

Mine has a Wren 54 mk3 (14 pounds thrust), and it weighs almost 19 pounds. not unlimited vertical but enough for me especially after a fast pass..

my new (glassed and painted) r54 weighs just over 20 pounds and has a Wren Supersport (18 pounds thrust). Not flown yet but I expect the performance to be just as good if not better.

(got 36 flights on mine)

Regards

I live in Japan.
I started the assembly of Reaction in May, and completed it in October.
I remodeled fuselage of Reaction to shape different from an original
design.
That is, an original, square section was changed into a round section.
As a result, it became a very beautiful appearance.
Fuslage is painting finish in addition to the micro glass, and the wing is
film finish.
I was able to enjoy a wonderful assembly kit by a wonderful design by Bruce
and the production of Bruce enough.

The first flight is scheduled to be tried on holiday when the condition in
November is good.

kzmori, can we see a picture of your R-54?

kzmori, you are my hero! I've never really said this, but I've often thought about an R54 with a smooth, rounded fuselage just like you've done here. Usually, that means a fiberglass fuselage, but you have done a beautiful job with wood.

When kzmori bought his kit, he shared some pictures of some delta wing models he designed. I could tell then that he is a gifted modeler with a good eye for design. We all wish you luck with the test flights of your R54.

Oh, and I think "eulogy" was just a mistaken use of English. A eulogy is a respectful speech you make for dead people and crashed airplanes You do not want to give a eulogy for the R54 (maybe you meant "tribute"?). Thanks for sharing the photos!

Hi Kzmori,

Your R54 looks wonderful. I thought mine was "rounded and slippery" but yours is much better. good luck with the first flights. You will love this airplane.

Bruce, I think you are going to see lots of "Customised" Reactions. This is something that will never happen to the ARF's. They all look the same.

Man, you guys got me going now, since I don't have a place where to build for about 4 years now I haven't venture to build any balsa kit ( I love to build my own ), the last one that I build was an Enforcer and it was a fight every day with my wife because I was building it in the leaving room, but there is hope in the very near future for me, so here I am thinking, mmmmmmm 1/2 of the garage will be mine and only mine so mmmmmm, build again, the reaction is looking better and better every time I see it plus one of my friends has one half way there, if i get it I will put a Simjet 1200 that's 18 #'s of thrust for it.

I am very glad to hear the voice of your praise for my round shape Reaction.
However, the word used for the funeral has been sent to Bruce.
I'm very sorry.

I am wishing that eulogy will not be dedicated to my Reaction.

Bruce
Thank you very much for following to
my poor English.

Kzmori,
I get to Fukuno near Toyama. I'm sure we could get together on my next visit to Japan. Heck I could fly into Nagoya instead of Osaka. I'll let you know my schedule via PM.

I would like to hear from people that have tried retracts other than the Robart 530 that is recommended. I fly half the time off grass, and wounder about the 530 holding up. I have looked at the Robart 630 with struts, and this looks like a better unit. The price difference is not apreciable with this choice. The Trim wheels and brakes also strike me as a better choice. What are others doing in the way of their retracts? I would hate to spend the almost $400 for the 530's and Kavan electric unit, when a bit more would give me something far better.

Have the BTE supplied Robart retracts and they are fine. I have TRIM wheels and brakes with the UP6 valve. Great combination. Logged 4 more flights this past weekend bringing my flight total to 86. Approvimately 75 of them from our grass field. No malfunctions at all. Just keep an eye that the 3/16" struts are centered in the wheel wells at the start of every flying session.
