Well, Now that I didn't forget how to do it, I need to learn where the type goes
1 st. pic showing framework around the firewall.
2nd pic showing the fuselage in the glassing stage. &
last but not least, the Hatch Compartment that will house the switches and air valve
RT I want to THANK You for the info on the earth mags., it works PERFECTLY.

RE: GROUP BUILD - Top Flite Giant Scale F4U Corsair
What kind of air control valve is everyone using on this plane? This will be my first with mains and a retract tailwheel. I'm not usre whether to go with the robart, and "T" off one of the mains to the tail wheel, or if there is a valve specifically for this.
Thanks in advance,
Sam

Hi george
Looks like you are comming along just fine, for the ngles it looks like the glassing is nice and smoth, when I do my next corsair and I am planning on one I think I am going to be more creative when it comes to the compartment.
Keep up the good work
Cheers bob T

To the best of my knolage you only want to tee in the line between the tank and your input port on your control valve, none of the lines going to any operating cyclender
I like thr robart control valve the one that you can control the speed (just don't slow them douw to much) you want tem to come up with authority
Robat has some good schematics for this
Cheehs Bob T
PS when will we see some more pic;s

Rt 3232,
More Creative on the compartment,? I may have to enlarge mine as I plan to do double switches & charge jacks plus the control valve. I'll take a closer look at what I got mounted thats ready to be installed and if need be increase the size I didn't plan on that , just another after thought.

Hi Folks,
Still here, just not moving along as quick as some of you. I did manage to get the flaps all lined up and working. Even hooked up the servos and did a little programming then sat and watched them go up, then down, then up...........you get the picture I'm sure when I get the retracts installed I'll do the same thing. Just kinda cool seeing them finally move under their own power. I'll maybe post a few pics later on today.
Servos, I am using Hitec digis for the flaps. I use them on several other planes and really like the functionality when it comes to programming them. You still need to take care that things are "right" mechanically but, then you can really dial in the end-points etc. Also on the flaps I re-programmed them to move as slow as they can. Now on the transmitter I have the flaps on a 3 position switch and when I hit the switch they move slowly into position. I might be wrong but, I think this is a good idea for the flaps. I haven't gotten the servos for anything else yet. Thinking I'll go with some strong mg JR's though.
Cheers,
Dave

RE: GROUP BUILD - Top Flite Giant Scale F4U Corsair
would a JR 811 work on flaps and maybe rudder and or tail wheel? The reason I ask is that I have 5 811's not doing anything except collecting dust right now.

Iam not a JR man, but if the torque is up around 60 plus I would say they are probly ok, I had all brand new hi-tec in my first build and then found out the carbon fiber gears wold not handle the vib's, so in this current build have all 8303or 8305 futaba's, just be careful with the fiber gears..

Hey RT3232
Took a closer look at my compartment and for me to do 2 switches and charge jacks I definitely have to do any compartment so I guess it's going along side the first one

Yes I did but I did find the layout furnished was a little off so be carfull when drilling your mount holes, as I wanted the tip of the engine shaft to be dead center, so I ended up measuring 3 or 4 time and drilling twice to get it right.
I also recomend soft mounting the engine..
Goin to try to down load some pic's

Hear are the pic's that turned out, I am still learning how to use this camera, I am not sure what I did but all of the righy side pic's went south.. Along with the vido of the gear in action. Took these pic at our club meeting its the only place big enough to set this thing down on the floor, I will try to hang it up in the shop, and try for some more pic.s

RE: GROUP BUILD - Top Flite Giant Scale F4U Corsair
Took the first steps towards laying out the sliding canopy today, cutting the rails and getting some idea of where I can put them for the thing to work right. Here's where I've spotted them out. Have to use a slotted plastic channel with a #2 screw running through the slot to keep the thing pivoting as the rails don't run parallel to each other which would be necessary should an I beam be used to run through the channel vs. the screws. Liked the more scale layout of the pivoting arrangement so chose that and saved the Dynamic Balsa I beam channel rails for the FW....

RE: GROUP BUILD - Top Flite Giant Scale F4U Corsair
Hi all !!!
Engine ?'s I'm thinking about using the Evolution 58GX 3.6 gas engine. (58.19cc/ 8.5HP) I have loved every Evolution engine I have used so far this will be my first Gas engine has anyone used this engine in a Giant F4U before???
I'm still waiting for my Giant F4U to come in from Tower but I have everything ready to go, those Robart scale retracts are so nice!
Thanks
Devin

Anyone in the area that would like to paint my Giant for some $$$

RE: GROUP BUILD - Top Flite Giant Scale F4U Corsair
I can see that the other thread is helpful for the 1/8 scale. I've put the canopy on the smaller one before and can see that this one fits a little differently, bigger mostly. It drops down far enough on the sides to prevent the uppermost stringer on the fuse side in the cockpit from being able to act as a base for the slide channel. Thus, from what I can see, I'll have to put it in the side as outlined in the photo. I couldn't see much way to lay it flat as the canopy is bulged out a little on the sides at the area where it would be sliding at, where on the bottom it's flatter and thus will allow a clean slide. Looks a lot the same other than that though.
Thanks Bob.

I only suggested that thread as guide or as a means to push your own ideas, I printed the hole thing out and then layed it out on the fuse plan in the flat to see if it would work on the G/S,If I decide to add it next fall it will take some tweeking, but it seems that all the peaces are there. So now I need you to post all of your details, then just mabe this old man can get it done
Keep up the good work
