Ducky, these are his 1st trucks and he has 3 of them, the point I'm trying to make here isn't if it's a great truck to have or not, I'm thinking the Hobby store guy saw a chance to "unload" 3 of these on a guy who never had a truck before and pick up a quick $1200................

Yup I see the point Im having a spat right now whith my LHS over the same reason. The warhead came on a big recommendation from him (come to find out he hadnt really run one)When I bought my 2nd warhead I bought from someone else who was gonna trade it in to him (he got mad) So when I bought the savage I didnt even consider his input.

RE: Anyone own a Warhead
I agree with you Bill. I did my research and read a lot about the supposed $200 in automatic hop-ups and improvements in adjustability. I figured after all that Nitro RC cars have gone through over the past 5 or so years, that a car would have to be pretty well balanced and durable to live up to that claim. I guess I am the sucker for listening to the hype. Then when they had to delay it to modify some things and make sure when they released it it was PERFECT. Needless to say, someone's idea of perfect is a little less than ours. (Can you imagine what it was like BEFORE they suspended the original release date?) Now we are all here with the same broken parts and customer service is getting iffy on whether or not you need to send in the broken parts BEFORE they send you replacements. (It all depends on the person you get!) They need to get a standard that says, since they parts are so obviously cheap, if they are not on a common list, then send it in, but if you have one or more of the common breaking items - no questions asked - just send in new replacements.
Can you tell I'm getting a little mad? I have to send in my broken bulkheads, clutch, skid plate, radio tray, and servo savers BEFORE they will send me replacements. If they are concerned with costs, they shouldn't have released such breakable parts and then offered a free-replacement warranty - What are they concerned with, someone stocking up on servo savers?
Anyone notice all the "available" replacements parts are HPI? (clutch, pull-starter, carb) Surprised the servo saver is not.
aaaahhhhhhh!

Anyways here my question/// Im debating between the Revo or Savage X. Can you give me the highs and lows of each one and ur recommendation..
Im still tossing it up and cant make up my mind.

I'm sure at this point it doesn't matter much what's said in here. The SavageX is still new and has some parts not even availlable yet (Stock spur gear for example, however you can get the metal one that is option for old savage) The Revo is the Revo, it can do it all, I just bought the SavageX because it was new and I wanted to have the "brother" of my Hellfire. Other than that I would have bought another Revo. I love that truck. Did you see my Revo videos?

If your transmission is slipping take a look at this part.
http://www2.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin...?&I=LXLFR5&P=7
This is what the one way bearing rides on. Mine was showing a little galling. also when you reassembe make sure the set screw for the two speed is lined up with the flat.

Man I hated to do that warheader, but did you buy them from a Hobby Store? I'd really like to know what the salesman told you. My RC store guy is too Honorable to sell anymore of the ones he has, he's sending them all back. He's fixed everything on mine for free. If you did I'd take them right back tomorrow and demand my $$$$ back. Refer the owner or manager to this website and this thread. Get something else. There are plenty of trucks out there that have been around for a while and there are other new ones (but they are "New" too). You're looking at 88 pages and 2195 posts. Most are about broken parts and how to fix things. Not much about having "FUN". Am I being too Honest guys?

Not with the stock motor. I'm still on my first spur gear, shows slight signs of wear but could have been me not setting mesh quite right when replacing the engine. Working fine though.

RE: Anyone own a Warhead
Gotham...I'm not, no. I burnt up one spur gear so far and blew my tranny, but this was #1) because the mesh slipped - I put in lockwashers on the motor mount cradle to fix that and #2) I set the shift point wrong and blew reverse due to not stopping completely before changing to reverse.
Other than that, I'm thinking about experimenting with a savage steel spur gear with hub...any comments on that setup?

Ash, are you burning through spur gears running the truck on pavement? Is anybody going through spur gears by running on pavement?

RE: Anyone own a Warhead
I ran about 1/2 gallon of fuel through the warhead yesterday. I have the OS with the 3 shoe clutch. Man that os is a great engine. Even running rich it just keeps ticking. Goes thru the fuel about twice as fast as the stock engine, lol.. it will get better once it is run in and I can lean it out some. I was doing jumps and high speed ovals.
I really improved the braking by changing the throttle servo out to a high torque futaba. I cant lock them up, but I can do a break skid spin if I turn and break at the same time. I have to back off the brakes a bit, they are coming on too soon right now but nice to have brakes at all, lol.
So far no broken parts.. knock on wood. I came of one jumb and did a tumble but only scuffed the roll bar.
I ran the truck so much that I ran my battery pack down and thought I had a problem when it kept going into fail safe, lol...so I will have to buy a second pack.
One thing I did notice, she really leans out more as the fuel gets lower in the tank. She started to run really fast but I noticed very high head temps, so I have to watch this.
I changed the screws out to allen heads and I did noticed that the rims are rubbing slightly on the screw heads, this must hurt the speed, not to mention the rims, lol. Any fix for this?...any bigger rims out there?
Best regards all,
Randy

RE: Anyone own a Warhead
Randy...have a link to the high torque futaba you're using?
My OS .30 leans out like that too past 1/2 tank...that drives me NUTS. I'm thinking about putting an aftermarket tank in there that would be about half of the capacity but sit at the bottom of the frame, lower than the carburetor. What do you think? Also, maybe we should loop our fuel lines as mentioned earlier in the thread and/or get a fuel line with a larger inner diameter.
Have you noticed that at WOT, even at a very rich setting, the OS sucks so much gas that it starves due to a small inner diameter (flow) of the fuel line? I'm thinking the stock fuel line on the warhead would get more gas to it...I'm using dubro now, but I think it's too narrow.

RE: Anyone own a Warhead
Thats a good thought, I have larger diam fuel line that I use for my planes, I might try changing that out. The other option would to be to use a fuel regulator, they are pricy about $50 bucks. I will wait untill I have the engine broken in first, but I will try the larger fuel line.
One thing I have found in the past is that a larger fuel line can be a problem. I used large fuel line for an os 90 four stroke and could not get the engine to run properly no matter how carefully I adjusted the carb. I changed the fuel line to medium and solved the problem. I guess there has to be some resistance to get the right draw.
In anycase, the OS is sweet. And as I said, knock on wood I am not having any part breakages, even my dog bones are not wearing but that may just be a matter of time.
The servo I used was a 3010 with 90 oz of torque at 6 volts, but I think I will look at a even stronger digital. The futaba servo works with the stock servo arm, thats why I went with it. I think a digital will apply and hold the torque better than a non digital, only thing is I did wear my battery down in about 4 full tanks so the battery I have (800 mha, 6 volt) has to be upgraded as it is, a digital will only make it worse.
I did find that it takes careful set up of the linkages to get the brakes to work just right. Right now I have them set up to come on as soon as I release the throttle all the way and go to full brake as I push the trigger ahead. I am running a programable Futaba raido so I could fine tune my throttle wide open point easily enough, just the other end requires carefull adjustment to get the throttle to go to full idle and allow the brakes to be applied as much as possible at the same time. I may experiment with a longer fulcum on the brake lever or move the linkage in close on the servo to get more usable torque to the brakes.
Best regards,
Randy

Oh Oh!! Look Out!! Stand Back!! Be Careful!!
LOL now that I've gotten your attention, I have something really good to say about a Duratrax product. In fact, I'd recommend it to anybody that has different types and sizes of batteries to charge. I've had it over a year and until lately I've only used it for my JR receiver battery because my other chargers wouldn't do an 8 battery pack. Now I've learned to program it (simple) and I have it near my door and do all my batteries with it including the hump packs while their in the trucks.
http://www2.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin...&I=LXCLD5&P=ML
I have it set up to trickle charge all of my batteries. You get a better charge that way. It's programmed for 1100, 1200, 1400, 2100 & 3300 mAH NiMH batteries. I just choose which battery I'll be charging, hook it up to the truck, JR transmitter or 3300mAH 7 cell stick pack, Push the charge start button, listen to the tune and thats it. When it's done it plays another tune and shuts itself off. It also has clips so you can use it off you car or any other 12 volt battery. Beats the crap out of all those little wall charger that you have to keep an eye on too make sure you don't over/under charge. Oh, you don't even set the voltage with this one, just the mAH.
Remember it's a Duratrax product recommended by Bill! LOL
