Hi all,

I am starting to put together my Hurricane this weekend as a break from my FA Albatross DIII. I am contemplating recover the wing in UC since I will use slide on decals. As you know, decals don't work at all on fabric surface without tons of gloss coats. I noticed that most of you PAINTED onto the fabric. Is it easy to paint roundels (I have not done one) and do you encounter BLEEDINGS underneath the masking? Also, do the new retracts included in this KMP kit worth my time or I should buy replacement? Guys,
I've tried to find a spinner that looks correct in outline for the hurricane. The only thing that is close is the true turn P- 51 spinner.
Is anyone else out there interested in getting a correct spinner made? Tru turn may make a special spinner for this if we have enough demand. I'd be willing take the lead on this anyone else is interested.

I have some time on my hurri. these days and have made a few changes.

The more scale looking robostruts were removed and replaced with simple 3/16" legs for two reasons.

First the CG change was too much. Second the wheels toe'd in too much due to the twisting action of the robostruts. Once the wires were fitted the landings looked very scale indeed, especially because the plane stays upright!

The flaps are only lowered about 1". This lets the plane still fly and "skim" in with much more control.

I now wait a little while before pulling up the wheels to avoid a pitch kick near the ground. teh YS 1.20 does big loops and takes her up like a warbird should climb.

I did FG cloth and epoxy the inside of the nose because it started to crack.

Otherwise all is well if I can get used to flying non-digital servos again :-) [And the cold bloody weather....]

Regards,

Eric.

Here it is: Kondor Model Products (KMP):

http://www.kmp.ca/index.htm

Their telephone number is right there on the first page and it still looks like their still selling the Hurricane.

A great plane. I love mine.

Hello Gents, I'm down to one plane left to build before starting my Hurri, a Hanar 9 Miss America with an AXI 4130@24 volts. Check out my Tiger Moth with OS 91 four stroke in my Gallery, it's my first non electric RC plane. I've been lurking in this fourm for 6 months now. Many thanks to all contributors especially Ian! You guys have given me alot of tips and info. Still haven't chosen a glow or elec powerplant for it. The pic is my rudderbug Hurricane awaiting its maiden flight and a spinner. PS Waiting for my KMP spit XIV to arrive! HL

Finally started assembly of my Hurri tonight. I'd greatly appreciate it if someone would post pics and further details of how they set up their internal linkage for the elevator. I've got a Satio 150 sitting around that needs a home, and I think this will be it. (got some fast Zeros and FW's at the field). Otherwise thanks to everyone for the ideas and motivation.....

I have another ARF with an internal elevator linkage, the 2 elev halves are joined by a wire with a 90 at each end and there is a steel control horn welded or soldered in the center. Sorry camera died. On the engine front I'm looking at an RCV 91 CD and a Saito 100ti inline twin to keep it inside the cowling. I'd like more power but my field has a 1.20 4s limit .46 2s limit so I'll go for looks instead of power. An OS 120 would be nice but I don't want that cylinder and muff hanging out. The 150 should kick some FW butt!

As long as the cubic inch nazis can't read the 1.25 on the case I could say its a 1.20

I've got good news! (for me) My club is upping the limit to 1.30 for 4 strokes so a Saito 125 is now a possibility.

Hi just about finished my ESM Hurricane - BUT with a OS 120 two stroke in the nose and build as per instructions I am having to put 1KG in the nose to get it to balance as per instructions. I see that some have had to put in 1 pound to balance but I think 1 KG (2.2 p) is over the top - any advice. []

When ever lead is need I always put everything as forward as possible, put the battery as well as any lead on the engine mount, a big prop nut and washer helps and if you still need to then epoxy some lead into the cowl on the face behind the spinner. The further forward you put everything the less lead you will need.

Hi all,
I just got a KMP Hurricane and have read most of the posts here which have been very helpful. I have a Saito 100 needing a home but with the talk of adding nose weight l'm worried it won't be enough power. I fly my warbirds scale like and appreciate any opinions.
Thanks Dave.
P.S.Keep those mod ideas and pics coming they're really helpful.

To Dave,

I have the GSP Spitfire with a Saito 100 and the KMP Hurricane with a Roto25 gasser. I can tell you definitively that if you use the Saito 100 in the KMP Hurricane, that you will be looking at adding a lot of lead to the front. I would say at least 1.5 lbs, perhaps more. Guys putting 1.20s in the Hurricane are generally adding at least a pound. On top of the balance issue, I do not think the Saito 100 is enough power for this plane. It will certainly fly it, but I think it will fall out of big loops or other similar maneuvers. I try to fly my planes "scale like", but like being able to make long arcing maneuvers in climbs (if that makes any sense) and if you are the same, I think you would not be happy with the Saito 100.

Good luck and let us know how it works out if you decide to use the Saito 100.

Wonder how the saito 125 will work, if I need that much nose weight, think I will sell the 125 and put a 150 in it.
