RE: FLITON EDGE 540 FREESTYLE they did it again
I am pretty interested in this plane. I have a evolution .61 that I think would work pretty good in it. I currently use it in a funtana 40 so it should be good for the fliton edge. I look forward to your pics and info.

I have been waiting for this plane to be released for 4 months, now that mine is on the way the suspense is killing me. work is over rated. Quit now and give us some build pix Mine won't be in until next week.

OK, so I quit my job....just walked out this afternoon.
Well, maybe not, but here's some pics for the rest of you "aero addicts" out there!
Next will be the wts of the components. Steve

The wing in the package shows how nice it all comes wrapped. Perfect. Not a dent/wrinkle in the covering. The hatch problem looks fixed, althought the dowls that hold it in at the front are a little flimsy. That little plane is my Fliton mini extra, and the one one the bench is the Extreme Flight Extra 300 which is saying "finish me first!"
The built up stabs are too cool.
Weights:
Entire Hardware pack: 16oz
Pants: 1.4oz
Canopy: 1.1oz
Entire sticker sheet: 2oz
Wings: 7.3 oz X2=14.6oz
H. Stab/elev: 3.8oz
Rudder: 1.2oz
Fuse: 19.5oz
That's all for now...
Edit: That adds up to 3lbs, 12oz by my count.

Thanks for the quick update, it looks like they did a better job on the motor box. are you going with the 100 for power?

You are welcome. Now I just have to get the little EF Extra off the bench and into the air so that I can get started!
I posted that pic of the recommended way to run the elevator halves because I didn't especially like it. Hoping someone will show me how to hook up the halves and run a pull-pull on the elevator...or some other solution. The rudder servo goes under the fuse in the tail and is already setup to be pull-pull. Also, not totally convinced on the wing attachment: Calls for rubber bands holding the wings on... Steve

I made a pull pull elevator set up for the extra. It is solid and and lighter than the stock setup as you can get rid of the wood dowel and wires. Just like most pattern planes you should put the elevator servo sideways for the perfect geometry. As I lost my extra because of a battery failure, I cannot get a picture of the servo. It was really a perfect flying plane. Fortunately my edge is on the way and I will make the same setup and power it with YS63s.

Rubber bands, you have got to be kidding.......this is not a high wing trainer. Dont tell me I have a plane on the way that uses rubber bands to hold the wing on. They have to have a dowl set up
with screws.....

I'm guessing the wing attachment is similar to the Sig Somthin Extra. There is a hook on the root rib of each half and a rubber band is used to hold them together. It's actually a good set-up and I never had a problem with hundreds of flights.

RE: FLITON EDGE 540 FREESTYLE they did it again
I just got news that they have the Edge in Singapore, hope to get mine by this coming Thursday! I will go EP and have the Edge and Extra 330 together in EP ... Would be great to go to the field and have both side by side ...
Nice to see that they have beefed up the engine mounting box and there is a hole for cooling on the firewall.

Sweet! That's what I was looking for. How did you join the elevator halves? and approximately where did you place the elevator and rudder servos? One more question: Did you use Dubro, or Sullivan hardware?...or does it matter? THanks in advance, Steve

alpsat: I think I understand what you are saying now. Both of the upper horns run to one servo arm, and both the lower to the other. Just have to do a little engineering to put a sideways servo mount in there.

RE: FLITON EDGE 540 FREESTYLE they did it again
Reno - My Extra 330 has been sitting in the hobby room for over 6 month now. I bought the AXI 4130/16 with a TMM 7524-3s ESC and I went to get some China made lipos, DualSky XPower 3S2P (x2 per flight pack) 4,500 mAh 12C. I did not get it into the Extra but tested it out finally on a WM Super Chipmunk. The batteries s*cks! It will not heat up but they are not able to hold 3.1V per cell at anything past 85% throttle. I am running on an APC 16x8E only.
The Super Chipmunk has more than enough to fly scale and aerobatic. That is a 8.25 lbs plane ... the AXI will be perfect for the Flitons. I think I got about no less than 900W on that motor. I will be getting a set of Flight Power batteries as I will be distributing them here. I love Flitons and would love to be a real show off having the Extra and Edge at the field, hehehehe ...
As for cost its about as follows:
Motor - USD135
ESC - USD190
Batts - USD90/pack
Radial mount - USD20
Aluminium stand off mounts - home made

RE: FLITON EDGE 540 FREESTYLE they did it again
I agree, the Saito 100 should be an awesome match with this plane.
tIANci, thanks for the details on the E setup. That battery deal stinks! I would be seriously angry with that! I still need just the batteries to come down just a liiiittle bit and I'll be flying my 40-60 size planes E style. Almost done with the 44inch wingspan 33oz EF Extra. That will be my largest electric to date.
Vette, I will use the 4 JR Digital Sport 811's that came with my radio. HS81 micro on the throttle. I have had them in two similar size (but heavier) 3D planes and they have been flawless so far.

RE: FLITON EDGE 540 FREESTYLE they did it again
Steve - the EF Extra 300 is superb, I cannot wait for my shipment to arrive, I flew the samples and I was very pleased. Much better than my Fliton Prodigy. As for my batteries, I took a risk and that is the way it goes. I can always use them for less powerful motors like the AXI 2826.
