P61 at Topgun
Does anyone have any information/specs. on the P-61 that flew at Topgun?
What size was it? What engines and who made the u/c? etc.
Am interested as contemplating doing an enlarged Ziroli P-61 as a long term project some time in the future.
Best regards
Jason

RE: P61 at Topgun
Jason, Paul enlarged it from Ziroli plans to 1/5th scale if I remember correctly.
it matches the scale of his enlarged Ziroli B25.
there was an article in one of the RC magazines awhile back about this build.
pretty impressive size

As Todd said, it is 165 inch span, I believe. HAs DA-100's. Paul is in the business of vacuum forming, and pulled his own parts (canopies, cowls, etc.). Robart custom made his retracts. That is a cool plane for sure.

I do know that he doesnt (according to the article) have the molds for I think the canopies
or cowls as they where broken during the build process.

Jason,
I enlarged Ziroli plans to 160" (1/5 scale), as Jeff said, DA-100's swinging Air Models 28-10 props. Bob Walker from Robart made the gear and the rims and brakes came from Sierra Giant Scale. I made all of the canopy molds and the mold for the cowls. It weights 95 lbs.
Hope this helps

Many thanks for the responses - having seen the video it is a mighty impressive plane - many congratulations Paul.
How does it fly - and are you using the scale spoilers or ailerons?
How do you find the DA-100's - reliable enough & easy to start?
Have by any chance the molds for the canopy or cowls survived?
Any help much appreciated.
Best regards from over the pond.

For those who don't know, the Mid-Atlantic bird pictured above will be a flyer when it is completed. What a fabulous accomplishment. Below is a pic of where it all started.

RE: P61 at Topgun
Jason,
Thank you for the compliment. The plane flys as if its on rails and yes I have the spoilers and ailerons. The DA-100's have been great for myself, and have been very reliable and start very easily. The molds do exist, however I don't believe that I would ever sell parts off of them, because I did duplicate Nick Ziroli's parts and I don't feel its proper for myself to sell something that he has designed and already made.
Best regards
Paul

There are some pics of Paul's P-61 on this site here. These were taken at Warbirds over Delaware 2005.
