RE: REDCAT WHY DO THE GEARS STRIP OUT??
I have the HPI bell on the Volcano now. Seems to work better. All the gears just wear out in the tranny in about a gallon. At least I won't have to buy a new bell.

RE: REDCAT WHY DO THE GEARS STRIP OUT??
I recently took two semesters worth of mechanical drawing class. We had to measure differnet things and draw them on the computer using autoCAD. I'm gonna try and see if i can dimension my volcano spur gear (maybe even all gears in the gear box), and give the drawing to my dad's friend who could cut them out of metal with his CNC machine.

Sorry man, if i was gonna go into the spur gear making business, I'd definately hand out some test gears, but I'll most likely only be making one set []
I'll post the design on here, so if they work well enough, maybe you guys can make some of your own
That is, if i can make them in the first place...

Aw man... that's a tease... Oh well. Let us know if it works. I could really use some metal 47 tooth gears or something along those lines.

RE: REDCAT WHY DO THE GEARS STRIP OUT??
Hey popper, try to use some steel clutch bell like hpi savage A991 part. I put it in my car, tightened all the engine mount screws and it looks like spur is not wearing on inside now. But informtulately i had to make my own gear shaft - got a screw M6 , got some nuts that fit 1st gear in place of one way bearing and tightened the gear with 2 nuts , one on each side. i had to use some other tools to adopd new shaft but it works great . Main problem in redcats is aluminum clutch bell. Also look at clutch shaft, i bent second one and it also doesnt help spur to live longer

Hey jack thanks for the suggestion but I have a two speed buggy.
And just a question, why do all that work when you could buy a 16t HPI bell that is almost a direct bolt on?

Popper, he converted the 2 speed to a single speed. I may try it if I get the buggy running again. He used the 2 spd gearbox and used the nuts to jam the 1st gear closer to the engine so it works just like the single speed. Pretty tricky. The HPI bell only extends to the second gear. It took me a minute to understand what he did. Hey Jack can you post some pics of that mod??

Here are pics, this doesn't look professional, but was done in like 1 hour with basic tools . I am able to position the spur by +-0.5cm , i have to use cut-in-half nuts though. Last picture shows a shaft that was my 1st and was a bit out of centre

RE: REDCAT WHY DO THE GEARS STRIP OUT??
Hey folks I have some good news and a little bad news.
Good news:
I got a new job the other day working for the physics dept. here at FSU. I was poking around and asking a few questions and I found out that we have a CNC machine that I could use. Now I probably wouldn't be able to go into all out production of gears or anything like that but I'm sure I'd be able to produce enough to hand out a couple.
Bad News:
I have no clue how to make a cad file or anything of the sort. I downloaded a program or two and I'm going to have a shot at making something that resembles a gear, but if anyone with experience could lend a hand that'd be great. I'm going to go raid the tool boxes at work tomorrow and see if I can get hold of a caliper and maybe someone to help me out. Hopefully I can make something work. I'll be sure to keep you all posted on any progress.
Edit: I'm "acquiring" a copy of autocad 2007. If anyone has any other software suggestions let me know.

RE: REDCAT WHY DO THE GEARS STRIP OUT??
Hey Popper , here was the super cheap fix for my Tornado XP. If you notice the little homemade spacer that goes on the nut , and how far out the outer bearing is in the clutchbell. The other pick is the Duratrax set up , they both seems to work pretty well.

RE: REDCAT WHY DO THE GEARS STRIP OUT??
Thanks !!!! I told Popper I'd send him these picks a while back and just didn't get a chance to. Cars running pretty good , been playing helicopter pilot though. I tried MSN but my computor has issues so I can't get on. Oh well , I'll just breeze though here .

Thanks for those pics man, and like Mr. Caka said it's nice to have you back.
So baisically what you did with the stock clutch bell was put that spacer in there and had the bearing sit further out. I guess what you were going for was stability and less wobble. I'll try it out and see what I get.

Popper
Check the back bearing also. On my stock one the hole is a little to large for the bearing so it wants to wobble even more. Clean it up real good and either a drop of loctite or if you are daring a drop of super glue. I prefer loctite but it has to be clean.
Its nice to be back !!
Hey blue, I've got a worm that tries to get into my system every time I go to Tower or RCU , what parts of Norton do I need to disable ? I just gotta make sure I don't run around having unprotected net service !! LOL

Eddie,
Doing good !! I've been crashing quite well thank you !! I'm working on putting a T-Rex together. I've got a little cheap Heli but I found out after I got it that it burns out tail motors. For about 60.00 bucks I can fix the problem but I only paid 75.00 for the Heli. I got a few other cool toys though and having some fun. My daughter loves to watch the airplanes , she thinks its great !! Glad to hear you got the boats out. You aren't around all the extra water I've been seeing on the news are ya ??
