Ice Fun,
Ok, time for this discussion to come to an end. You are obviously not going to listen to all of the advice you are being given here. But now that you have provided a location for this fabulous park that you say is perfect for flying in I can now say that you are just being purely reckless. According to the information you have given this park is located 2 miles from the sanctioned AMA field in Dublin, Oh.
This is from the AMA 2006 Safety Code:
Finally see the attached map to see what I am talking about here.
Ice Fun,
As I have said in previous posts, I am not trying to come down on you or discourage you from learning to fly. But rather I am trying to help you and get you started in the proper direction. Everything that you are trying to do here is just pure dangerous. Nobody has even mentioned that fact that you haven't flown a glow powered plane yet (from that I have seen at least I don't think you have flown one. If I am wrong I do apologize), and yet you are talking about flying a plane that you have no experience with in a public venue. If you are serious about continuing in this hobby I can recommend enough for you to join your local RC club. There you will find people that will help you learn to fly in a safe manner.
Ken

By not joining your local club, you are not enjoying 50% of what this hobby has to offer. By that I mean friendships, fun, advice, fun, flying tips, fun, instruction, fun....R/C is a social hobby as well as it is anything else- don't limit yourself to just one piece, enjoy the whole pie

2 miles?
Guess I didn't catch that
Can you show me where it is? I don't think the address you posted works...
BTW, no, I am not trying to not listen to your advice. I'm just telling you my thoughts on it. I never said I disagreed with you.
EDIT: RCken You do know that that's the guy's house right? Not the actual field. I would know. I live right across the street. The actual field is over 3 miles away... So I CAN fly at my park

Ice Fun,
Look at the map RCKen posted. There is a red and green tack that is the start and end point for a trip - from the existing club field to your park. Its 2 mi by road, even less as the crow flies (which is the way your radio signals will go). I'd love to have a club that close by to fly at.
I've gotten a pretty good impression that you’re leaning to the NextStar which will make a fantastic trainer for you. Ken has quite a bit of experience with that plane as do I and several others who have been flying and instructing for a while. With the NextStar you’ll be flying a 6.5 lb plane at around 50 mph, or more. Think about the kinetic energy the plane carries. Not to think if somebody at that club field flips on their radio which happens to be on the same frequency you’re on. There is more that enough energy in the plane to punch through somebody’s windshield and easily kill them. Now consider if you flip on your radio and somebody is flying their Composite ARF 42% Yak-54 with over $11,000.00 invested in it. Do you want them banging on your door wanting the money for a replacement?
Nobody is trying to rain down on you – you’re tapping into a wealth of information that I wish I had when I started flying RC and if anything we’re all trying to make sure you get a good start into the best hobby there is. If I fly at a park or school here in Wichita, it’s because the closest field is 11 miles away, and I fly low enough that there will be no issue with the plane if I loose radio connection (I have a Berg receiver that has the capability to have a fail safe programmed into it regardless if I fly an FM or PCM radio, and I also fly my radio in PCM mode which also has it programmed into the PCM receiver). My fail safe will reduce the power to idle and enter a tight spiral that will intentionally crash the plane on the field before it can get very far away.
The idea is to be safe, and make sure your actions don’t do others any harm just as you wouldn’t them to do the same to you. Besides, at the club there is a wealth of information for you to tap into.
I guess I’ll get off my soap box for now…..

edit: Last I heard, the minimum distance between AMA clubs fields is 6 miles. AMA has some of the best minds in the business and they didn't come up with that distance as an arbirtary number.

omg omg omg omg... read my post.. That is the guy's HOUSE not the CLUB's FIELD Rule of radio interference. Closer Watt/proximity ratio controls receiver. In other words, whoever is closer to the plane controls it even though there is another transmitter with the same requency. The nearest field is over 3 miles away

See, this is part of the problem here. You think you know what you are talking about, but instead what you say comes out sounding foolish. I can assure you that this statement is 100% absolutely false. If you are flying a plane and somebody a mile aways turns on their radio on the same frequency I can tell you for sure that you ARE NOT going to retain control of that airplane. The result will be that you will lose complete control and the plane is going to crash. Whoever told you that has mislead you.
Once again, I'll make this statement. Everybody here isn't trying to discourage you from flying, but rather they are trying to help you. What you want to do is a recipe for disaster and everybody is trying to help you avoid a lot of heartache, and a lot of financial loss. The experienced modelers that contribute in this forum do it because they have a true desire to help other get into this hobby that they love so much. Nobody (and I repeat NOBODY) comes here so that they can "boss somebody around" or "give a kid a hard time". They are giving you the same exact advice that they have given to hundreds of people (of all ages) before you. This is America of course and you are free to do as you wish, you don't have to follow any of the advice you receive in here. You can do whatever you please. But please know this, when somebody continually asks for advise and ignores it most people will simply quit giving advice to that person. That's just common sense, there are a lot of people out there that are seeking help and nobody is going to waste time trying to help somebody that doesn't want to listen to what they are being told. I do wish you lots of luck in your pursuits, because at the rate you are going you are going to need it.

Tell ya what Ice Fun. Here's the guys phone number 614.764.0703 why don't YOU call him and ask if you can join his club? Ask about dues, location and anything else you might want to know. You don't even have to tell him that you don't care if you shoot down one of his planes because of your poor attitude. I'm sure he will be glad to help anyway. At the very least you can warn him that you are out there flying carelessly and he and the rest of his club had better get off "YOUR" channel. [:@]

Give up on this guy, he isn't going to listen to anyone. He obviously knows everything and can be taught nothing! Quite frankly, I would't want him in my club. His type of immaturity is not needed.
Let him go fly on his own and eventually he will get what is coming to him. After all, he can't say he wasn't warned. Nice try guys, but you are risking carpal tunnel problems trying to convince this guy of anything.

RE: WHOO! Yeah! Dublin Rocks!
But the thing is the nearest field is over 3 miles and most likely 5 miles away. There will be absolutely no interference. The radios only range no farther than 1.5 miles
The point on the map you posted is a house, not the field

Ice Fun, you may be listening to us but it is more than obvious that you are not hearing what we are trying to say. We are no longer talking about your little electric toy Aerobird that's barely capable of getting out of it's own way. We're talking about a Nitro engine powered plane that under the right conditions (malfunctions) can fly thousands of feet in seconds and attain speeds (in a dive) of over 150 MPH, especially after the wings strip off. One of these unguided missiles will KILL in the blink of an eye before an unsuspecting observer sitting calmly in the grass watching "the pretty airplanes" and even get up. YOU have now killed someone, it happened recently in Europe BTW, and you will never recover from it. It will haunt you for the rest of your life. You and your parents will never have a dime to your name again after the victims family slaps you with a multi-million dollar lawsuit. It won't matter if you did anything wrong or not, it will cost every penny your family has to defend the case win or lose. Lawyers love this stuff.
I'm done preaching to you because I doubt you are hearing this. There was another like you before on these forums, Chad, he didn't last. Couldn't be told anything either and wouldn't listen to anyone. Good luck, I'll be staying well away from Ohio.

I hear you and appreciate your concern but dying in a airplane crash is more likely than a trained flyer flying a glow plane...

So you think more people die for RC planes than real planes?
lets see
Commercial plane death history: 4000+
Rc plane death history: Gee... no more than 5?
Why can't I even get a chance to be heard?

I just got off the phone with the City of Dublin (In Ohio) and they allow ANY types of planes with ANY sizes and ANY weight as long as they don't exceed AMA's limit in the local parks like the 78-acre treeless park by my house. What's best is you don't even need AMA registration in this county and city to fly in Gov't owned property. Dont' get me wrong, you can still get into trouble if you cause damage to property or people.
Rock on... (this statement came from the parks supervisor so what he/she says goes )

Its much easier to record the phone call. You should keep a recorder in line with your land line for verbal contracts and government phone calls. ITs easy and cheap and legal. ANd you have your behind covered.

Its much easier to record the phone call. You should keep a recorder in line with your land line for verbal contracts and government phone calls. ITs easy and cheap and legal. ANd you have your behind covered.

Did you get it in writing? You'd be surprised how quickly that person will deny ever having talked to you or anyone else on this subject. They will throw you under the bus and let down the jack to cover their sorry political butts, this I can promise you. [:@][:'(]

Single notification means only one party needs to be aware you are recording a conversation (usually the person doing the recording)
Double notification means both parties have to be informed of the recording.
Not saying you can't do it, just be sure you let whomever you are recording know you are doing it if you are not sure of your own state laws.

Ok, I think it's time I step in here. It's time to close this thread down. It's become pretty obvious that questions have been asked and the answers have been given by many members. Things are starting to go downhill now as some members feel they can play little childish games like changing titles or editing posts to completely change the content. I've restored the title to this thread and have restored all posts, and now I'm locking this thread down.
