RE: Headlights/taillights
The really awsome part, in my opinion, is that the light system is totally free of the car, its all on the body. I can lift the body off the car and not have to unplug anything. Here's what I used.
2x Ultra Bright Blue LED 3.7v
2x Ultra Bright Red LED 1.7v
Wire
100Ohm Resistor
330Ohm Resistor
Two stage switch
LED Mounting Sockets
9v Battery Plug
9v Battery Case
9v Battery
Electrical Tape
Soldering Iron
Solder
Here's my wiring diagram.
I can get some pics of the switch placement and battery placement if you'd like.

RE: Headlights/taillights
Did you get your parts at radio shack?
If so what type of resistors did you get? They have so many that I am not sure which ones to get.
Thanks!

RE: Headlights/taillights
For the blue lights I got 100Ohm 1/4watt resistors and for the red lights I got 330Ohm 1/4 watt resistors.
100Ohm 1/4watt part number 271-1311
330Ohm 1/4watt part number 271-1315
The LEDs are ultra bright, you can tell by the mcd rating. The red's are 3000 and the blues are 2600. The red leds are 1.7v and the blue leds are 3.7v. Note that you only need 1 resister per set of leds, so you only use two total, however they come in packs of 5, but are only .99 cents.

the only problem with exact values is that radioshack doesn't usually have those resistors.

use the next one up! you get slightly lower voltage that way but its safer...
