Default Sig Komander with retracts

After 8 years of thinking about it, I finally got around to building a Sig Komander with retracts. She maidened today and flies great. She is a bit heavier than I would have liked but the .46FX pulls it around just fine for a sport plane. The last landing of the day was rather exciting as the left gear failed to deploy but I babied it in and she suffered only minor scuffing of the wing edge.

I like it! I was thinking of trying the same thing on a Midwest Strikemaster.
Maybe I'll give it a try now that I see how good your Komander looks with
the gear up. Would be nice to see a few more fly-by photos. What retracts
are you using?

Thanks for the compliments. The retracts are Robart 606's in the wing and a B&D in the nose. I chose the 606's (85 deg) before I decided to take some of the dihedral out (reduced to 3 deg) and in retrospect, the 90 deg retracts might have worked just as well. The wings also have spars and sub ribs added for strength at the retract mount point. This may have been unnecessary, but I didn't want to find out the hard way.

I'll have to work with the wife to get some better fly by pics...Lead honey, lead!

Very well done...

Your Kommander brought back memories... one was my first RC airplane back about '73-74. Bought a new Enya 40 for it that is still going strong.

Check my avatar.

I liked the Strikemaster but I don't want to build another one. If it's available as an ARF I would probably have to get one.

How was the kit? Was it lazer cut or reminiscent of the older Sig kit requiring tons of cutting?

Aww Man, it was my 3rd kit back in '73-'74 as well, I was a Junior in High School, I can still see it on my work bench in front of me now... a Fox .36 RC, World Engines Blue Max Mark IV, 6 channel, servos looked a lot like loafs of bread...

Where in the hell has time gone..??

She's a beauty no doubt! I happen to have the unmodified version still flying with an OS FS 70 Surpass after 20+ yrs. Out of curiosity, what did you cover her with?

Very nice!

Piked up one at a swap meet and need to recover it eventually.
