Orca Sloper
Hi....
I'm wondering if anyone here remembers a sloper that was featured in RCM many years ago (late 80's or early 90's, can't really remember)called Orca? I always wanted to build one but never got around to it and left the hobby for many years. I'm new here but I did SEARCH before I asked...!
Thanks! AlanP

You can still get the plans from...uh, Model Airplane News plans? Skyking R/C sells the cams for the pitcheron mechanism, so you dont have o make them yourself (his are sweet waterjet cut delrin).

The Orca is a Harley Michaelis design featured on p 25 of the November 1989 Model Aviation Issue.
If you're an AMA member, you can visit the digital archives and view it online through their archive search under the Model Aviation tab:
www.modelaircraft.org
Or, you can view it page by page this way:

http://www.modelaircraft.org/Members...1/00000027.jpg
http://www.modelaircraft.org/Members...1/00000028.jpg
etc. Just keep changing the page number to view the jpg you want to see (the image # is 2 more than each page #)
have fun,
Joe

Alan,
I was seriously considering building one, but then discovered the SIG Samurai which was very similar in performance, although with an RG14 airfoil which I knew I'd love, so I never did get around to building the Orca. I did order the plans though.

An alternative you might consider is the Skyking "Shrike". Its a 54" or 60" pitcheron that flies great. Sb Berris is about the nicest guy you'll ever meet in this hobby, and he has the designers (Harris Nelson) permission to kit this plane. Theres a list to get on, but I'm sure Ed would be willing to put you on the list.
I'll include a pic of my Skyking "Shredder" which is a 80" pitcheron. It flies great in light lift, screams in big air, and is a great all-arounder. It was designed by Mark Grand in SoCal, and was the hot setup back in the 90's.

Thank you Wind Junkie, for the links tothe AMA site, I haven't seen those pictures in a very long time. I think it was a few months after Harley and I were on the slope and they came out in the magazine. The Ocra was a very good flyer and would handle the stiff wind with no trouble with penetration.
Thanks again
