RE: Spektrum DX-7
My Mini Ultra Stick with an AR6100 also spiraled in uncontrollably without warning. I had lost all contact with the plane after flying for around 6 minutes on a fully charged 2100 lipo battery. When I got to the plane everything was working fine. The concensus at the field was that turbulance from a Euro Fighter jet taking off caused my problem. I was flying on the other side of the runway, the jet took off and I was coming around to land so I could watch and as I got to the runway, it spiraled in. I called Horizon to talk to them about this and they blamed my setup of the Mini Ultra Stick saying that plane called for a separate BEC or receiver battery. When I told the guy I was running only 4 servos, (no flaps), he said that he had heard the MUS needed a separate BEC regardless. When I challenged him on this, he got annoyed with me and said I could send the receiver in but chances are they will find nothing wrong. I've since fixed the MUS and have been flying it with the same 6100 receiver and so far so good. Not flying with jets either.

RE: Spektrum DX-7
Of course they are, they came in at my LHS nearly a month ago, same time as the AR7000s. In my group of friends there's 4 in use, and I assure you, we don't have any kind of special hook up.

Wow, that's cool that there are hobby shops carrying it. What's the name/number and do they mailorder? Mine keeps telling me the same thing that the Horizon site still says:

Mine work fine, haven't had any problems with any of the ones in my group of friends, despite the amount of punishment they get being flown indoors (we hit a lot of stuff, and each other). That page from Horizon isn't saying that they haven't been released, it's saying that they are sold out.

I have had no issues with my AR6100 either. Currently in a CP Pro electric heli but I know of others installed in planes and they haven't experienced any problems either. I got mine the week of Christmas, it was a nice surprise considering Horizon's site said it was not available at the time.

As with any brand out there, there are problems from time to time. I recently had an Airtronics Receiver that died a slow death. It just started twitching the surfaces sort of like metal on metal interference. Turned out to be a failed ic. $18 later they repaired it to 100%. My Spektrum is working flawless across the board.

RE: Spektrum DX-7
Just curious what folks are hearing about reliability of the new 2.4 spectrum stuff. Initially some of us old timers were a bit skeptical about the 2.4 range and performance but we have been gaining confidence as we see guys flying 40-lb TOC birds, jets, choppers etc without problem. An event witnessed today kinda rolls back my enthusiam---a gent lost his Extreme Yak 54, basically went into a dive from 75ft---locked up or fail-safed or whatever these do. Pilot very skilled 3D etc, no dumb thumbs here. Not much left, at least $1000 loss. Batteries, switch, connectors all appeared healthy (at least what was left), all new top-end stuff, installation was superb, etc but who knows. We are left wondering about the radio link---everything I read seems to scream total success/no problem with this equipment----is that the whole story or do some of you have stories like mine......just curious.

RE: Spektrum DX-7
Is there anyone that can honestly say that they believe that ANY radio has never been to blame for the complete loss of an aircraft? Every brand, every model.. sooner or later some of them are GOING to fail. Some will be recoverable failures, some wont. Ive wrecked my plane 2 out of 2 flights. Its not at all radio failure... Im just doing something stupid. If, and when it fails I will pick up the pieces adn build agian. I love the radio myself, but have very limited experience with it.

RE: Spektrum DX-7
G'day Mate,
I have a Spektrum DX7, & I have had perfect success with mine, no problems at all.
Having said that, I have had planes crash, recently, before I bought my DX7, & everything was checked, batteries cycled, range tested, & I still had a failure, I think it was a receiver, It doesn't matter what the radio is, things fail, a switch, a servo lead connection, or battery connection, servo gears, bad cells in the receiver battery, jammed servos, the list goes on, so if you want a guarantee that the DX7 will prevent crashes, sorry, that is just not true.

RE: Spektrum DX-7
have 8 AR6100 receivers and one of them was bad causing a crash to two planes. I too observed a full deflection of a control surface (one was rudder, other was elevator) after about 1 minute of flying time. I replaced the receiver and have had no problem since. I guess that there will be a bad one come off the production line occasionally. I hope there will be no duds in the next batch. Just wanted to add my experience to the list for documentation purposes.
I had the same scenario as speedpro 1 with my receiver. Two of my AR6100s were causing my planes to either pitch full up or full down. I have 4 AR6000's and 3 AR6100's. My AR6000's have been rock solid. However my 2 of the 3 AR6100's have had problems. My 3rd AR6100 I am afraid to use it, because of these issues. I have sent my DX7 to Horizon Service Center to get checked. Again, my AR6000's have been rock solid in performance. I might be sticking with the AR600 RX versus the AR6100. My AR6000's are reliable and so far the AR6100 has not proven itself. I just found out yesterday a friend lost his TREX 450 with the AR6100. I have read on this thread that one other person has experienced the same thing. Did Spektrum get a bad batch of RX's? I know have at least two of them. Is anyone else having the same problem as us? I have not flown for over a week because of this problem and am irritated. I hope I get my TX back soon.
Tom
i love the radio and the ar7000 but there IS a problem with the 6100 listed above are two more from other forums and theres alot more.

RE: Spektrum DX-7
If he used JR servos they have been reports of locking at full deflection
If he used JR servos they have been reports of locking at full deflection so maybe not the reciever.
I still believe its hype when they say "immune" to rf....I would say "better"
Best to not get complacent.
Still its a good system and I have purchased more recievers and use an old stick to flight test them before putting in my 35%
Extreme Yak 54, basically went into a dive from 75ft---locked up or fail-safed or whatever these do. Pilot very skilled 3D etc, no dumb thumbs here. Not much left, at least $1000 loss. Batteries, switch, connectors all appeared healthy

RE: Spektrum DX-7
Although I use Hitecs as well as JR and Futaba there have been a fair share of Hitec digitals locking up as well...voltage seems to be the bigest culprit on all of them and the Spectrum is not immune to that as well....now if we could get away from the 4.8-6v issue it would be even better
