RE: Tony's New 40% Extra
been doing some work on the plane so that i could get an initial balance before covering. got the servos installed, taped the control horns on, and ran the servo extensions for the elevator.
i hung lead from the nose to make up for the spinner and cowl paint. started with 12 ozs, ended up with around 8. looks like i will be able to run a carbon spinner after all!!
what do you guys think, the plane too big for the bedroom??

ty,
a wise builder once told me the following:
"before you start building a carden do two things:
1) buy stock in 3m.
2) buy a contractors pack of painters tape, and you will use it all."
just making sure i'm doing as i was told!!

RE: Tony's New 40% Extra
Tony,
As per the Carden plans, the elevators are held in place by the elevator tube and a "L" bracket attached to the fuse.
I saw some threads in RCUniverse suggesting that the L bracket may fail easily.
A simple fix would be to add a 1/4" anti-rotation dowell in the elevator as an added "safety". Do you think its worth the trouble or am I overreacting?
Thanks
George

RE: Tony's New 40% Extra
my builder added a carbon rod to the leading edge to take some load off of the l bracket.
another option is to add a second l bracket to the trailing edge of the stab.
either way, there are MANY people flying with only one l bracket and no trouble.
if you are concerned, just talk to dennis!!

RE: Tony's New 40% Extra
Hi,
As Tony mentioned, I did add a carbon fiber anti-rotation pin to his stabs. However, the Carden supplied "L" brackets are - when properly set-up - are quite up to the task. Bad things can happen when people don't take the time to ensure that their brackets mate flushly to both the fuse side and the pad-mount in the stab. This fit is critical! Any gap results in the bracket being flexed and stressed when the stab is bolted in place. Moreover, once they are fit, mark them as left and right, should you ever remove them completely they need to go back in the same location as there are likely subtle differences between the left and right fit. An added anti-rotation pin can give you a little piece-of-mind, but if you take your time, properly fit your brackets, and employ a sound mechanical set-up with your linkages, you should have no worries.

Okay, enough is enough. I understand it probably took a couple of months to charge all of your battery packs but this thing should have flown already.
1. charge batteries
2. put fuel in tank
3. flip prop
4. advance left stick
5. range check in the air
6. get on line and let us know how it flew
