Evolution 26GT VS BCME SPE 26
I will be building the Funtana 100X and plan on going with a gas setup. This will be my first experience with gas. I have seen many good reviews on the Evolution 26GT but not any on the BCME SPE 26. The weight is about the same however the cost for the BCME is around $170.00 less. I want a great running engine but the difference in price has me really considering the BCME.
Any one with ACTUAL experience related to the BCME or Evolution please chime in.
Please stay on topic as these threads seem to wonder and the original questions never get answered.
Thanks,
Mike

No matter the cost difference, the potential of these two is different
If a nice little sport engine fits you - buy the cheapest .
but the Funtana is best with the engine which will pull a 18x6 at close to 9 grand -on the ground - use a Zinger Pro as an inexpensive starting point - the Skorepa 18x6 works better for a few more bucks and by all means use the factory pipe or if you have some extra money the Skorepa pipe which is quieter and almost 5 ounces lighter. same performance
I am flying the Funtana with this combo -at 9.5 lbs and it beats any of the similar sized glow setups easily.
The new plane is essentially same size weight etc..
Now get some info on the BCME--

The BCMA-26 would fit with no problem on this plane. It will have significantly more power than a 1.20 glow 4 cycle glow engine so this combo should be dynamite! Your funtana without a doubt be 3D capable. The MVVS 1.60 does not crank out more power output. Its a more refined and smoother running engine, but thats about it. The BCMA-26 is definitly the biggest bang for the buck! This tiny engine is no slouch!

Have you tried muffled pipe setups on that engine?
the in cowl things are simply too loud for our use here .
we run 18x6 Skorepa props or Mejzlics or Zinger Pro's setup is typically 8600-9000 on the ground and recorded 9500-10000 in level flight -just letting it go for a second
This is the power level we prefer for the Funtana - irrespective of engine used .

Thanks...
On the Funtana did you use a beam mount? Is it a standard item I can find at my LHS?
Looks like you did not need to cut the cowl much. Any issue with fuel blowback as alot of folks use a velocity stack.
Thanks.

RE: Evolution 26GT VS BCME SPE 26
BB,
I've aquired a 1/5 scale Pica Waco that originally flew with a Saito 180 (alittle overkill). I was thinking of the Zenoah G20 but don't like the high current requirements of the ignition system. Looks like the SPE-26 should fit in the cowl and it looks like the ignition system is lower drain.
Any comments???
I hear that the Zenoah is very smooth. Also, any comments on the SPE.???
Regards,
Tony

Three of us at our field have the SPE 26 and have found them to be dependable, easy to tune engines with excellent throttle transition. There is no problem flying them with an overall weight of 10-12 pounds. Very 3D-able.

What RPMs are you getting from the SPE. A guy in our club has one and he's lucky to get 7,400 RPMs on a 17x6 prop. We're at 1200 feet ASL and it won't hold his Peak Model Edge 540 in a hover.

XJet,
I use it also at 1200 ASL and I must say I'm also very dissapointed with it.
I got 6400 on a 18x8 Menz S. The power developped corresponds more or less to a 17x6 running at 7600.
I'm Flying an extra 300 from CMPro, and the local retailer told me he was flying this plane with a Titan ZG 26 without any problem.
I'm now looking for a tuned pipe for the SPE-26 engine, fortunately compatible with the Titan.
