RE: WACO YMF
Stickbuilder,
I have both the 1/5 and 1/6 Pica kits to build, and feel the WACO is the sharpest bi-plane around. The information from this thread has really given me the modivation to start one of the kits instead of just looking at them! I also would like to join the Brotherhood!

RE: WACO YMF
Bill- You wanted to see the fuse after I primed it, well here it is. It amazed me how smooth it came out without sanding the primer. The flash kind of washed out the tail detail.
I haven't primed anything else yet, I want to mount the fittings for the flying wires on the wings before I spray them, but all the doping (three coats) is done.

Ken,
Waaayyy Cool! I need to get back in gear and finish covering the fuse on mine, so I can get it in primer. The detail on your fuse is just great! Did you use white or light grey primer? It looks white, but I guess that could be the flash?!?

It's white. Rustoleum Clean Metal Primer. I brushed on the first coat, after seeing what a friend's plane looked like using the primer as a filler for the fabric. his technique using a foam brush must have been better than mine, so I sprayed a second coat. I may not even have to sand it before painting, it came out so smooth. I'm just gonna spray the wings. There will be some color on the plane by weekend.

RE: WACO YMF
Hey guys, I have to admit, I really don't like the way the wing builds. For some reason, I simply don't like the spar exposed to the bottom of the wing. Now -obviously- it doesn't effect anything, but I have a hard time keeping the sheeting flush to the bottom of the spar, and the wing is not built in three seperate pieces.
Do you guys change this proceedure at all, or am I just being stupid!!! (Be honest!)

Check out the the piccies on post 270, page 80 and pretend that the rib is sheet balsa. The capping strip just holds the fabric off the spar, and is the same thickness as the L/E sheeting. This allows a full depth spar, that doesn't show through the finish or affect the wing profile.

RE: WACO YMF
Here are some pictures of my progress so far. I built up the crutch by laminating three 1/8" and one 1/16" sticks for each side.
We are getting there on the tee shirt order; the target is to print 72 shirts. I think we have requests for 28 so far.

Thanks, everyone, for the great comments on the shirt design. This may turn into a deal where there is a 'yearly edition' of Brotherhood shirts............

Jay,
The fuse looks good, are you building this from a kit or from scratch? The reason I ask is the way the numbers are printed on the formers !

Jay,
I like the rubber stamp thing. It beats using a roller ball pen all to the dickens. The kit never had the parts identified at all.

Our whole neighborhood is having yard sales tomorrow, wish I could be there at Mocksville.. The Statesville club will be having their big bird deal in June I think. I try to go to that one every year.

Damifino,
Would love a couple of `L' shirts, but you will have to send them to New Zealand, and we will have to find some way of recompense, Ideas?
