RE: Da 50 plane?
Also...if you're not limiting yourself to Yaks...
The PAU/BME Extras are very nice. The AirWild Edge or Extra would be super. The AirWild is the lightest 50cc plane on the market in stock condition. Mine weighed 14lbs 14ozs. Nobody can get lighter than that without spending a bunch of money.
I think some of the Wild Hare planes would be nice also. I'm looking at their V2 Edge but I don't have any personal experience with them.
If you really want a light one... The Great Planes Cap 27% comes in at about 13.5lbs. But it only has an 80" wing span and 1100 some odd square inches. But it flys nice and is a lot of fun. I have the EVO 45 in mine (a little heavier than my DAs) and it handles it fine.
I'm building a Great Planes Ultimate with a DA 50...if you want a biplane...this is a good one.
Lots of choices out there for the DA50. It's a sweet engine.
Thanks
Barry

Why would you want to limit yourself to an 18 lb plane? Granted, that is a good weight for a 50, but there are planes with AUW as low as 15lbs.
Air Wild 29% 260
SD Models 30% YAK
QQ 87" Yak
The list goes on and on....
Just re-read your post. A DA 50 can pull an 18 lb plane out of a hover very well, but the lighter, the better....

RE: Da 50 plane?
if you want to be able to pull out of a hover and not want it to look like a OLD man getting out of a broken down chair, don't use a DA 50 on a 18lb. plane! use a larger engine or a lighter plane, like a QQ yak, EF yak ' or a Ultra RC yak all can be built at 16 lbs or less. i have a Double Vision at 17lbs. it needs help out of a hover with a DA 50.
ENJOY!

RE: Da 50 plane?
ya that's helpful....
your prototype isn't even flying yet and has no history. How does that help him in deciding on a plane?
Really earning a name as a spammer early on between you and your buddy....
