I was under the impression that the doors cycled to keep airflow clean to the radiator in the taxi/take-off/landing phases of flight. There were other fighters that did not close the doors that flew off of the same unimproved fields, so who knows.

RE: FiberClassics P-51 now Comp-ARF P-51
missed this thread for a while since my e-mail was incorrect..
well..
@ Kelvin.. about the functional scale exhaust. Joe boyd told me you where working on them.. but I finally see them.
They are very nice! I've been looking for something like that. Are they available already? and what's the price.. why do I ask.
For a while now I've been working on a scale 1/4.5 P51B/C and it would be nice to have the exhaust at hand before I make the Hood Molds, So I can make sure they also fit my P51.
Any info would be nice.. connection to an engine would be a something to worry about later..
Cheers

If you guys want some info on the Borchers Drive, I have one here. I was trying to work out a deal with him to import them (gosh, that was in 02 i think?) but it never panned out. That was the motivation for me to start working on my drive.
Yes, we are still working on it. no, its not ready. boy, i really wish it was, cause i think we would probably sell at least a few. maybe.
it was fun to fly it, that's for sure!!!
off to work.
cheers
joe

Hey Joe,
Nice to see you alive... I havent heard from you in months!
We are starting on our P-51 B/C after Top Gun. The plans are complete and the prototype kit will be delivered to me in Lakeland next weekend. I still hope you can furnish the drive shortly so we can incorporate it in our prototypes.
Catch you soon.

guys around here are scart of the inline motors. A few have been cooked due to heat. Probable operator error.
I'm waiting on a DA 85 for my Mustang.

Hey David!
Well the CJM Jug actually has nothing to do with Meister except CJM made clone. Its not the same as ours. Something does not look right. However pics sometimes do not show the readl thing. I am waiting for my jug from them which was part of the deal. I havent heard from CJM after a few emails now.... The P-51 will be a full wood kit or a glass fuse will be available. This will be scale and no copies will be allowed..

Ahmed, sorry, I have been out of town at Top Gun. There is only one retract servo to operate the UP2 valve. The sequence timing is preformed by the valve its self. All you do is set the end throws for the servo to operate the valve piston like a Robart valve. The UP2 also controls the UP4(no servo used for this valve) valve to open the rear gear doors and tail wheel retract unit. You adjust speed though small air bleed screws on the valve it's self. you try it first then if needed, using their instructions you adjust the bleed screws. I forgot that every one has not seen these valves in action.
Hope this helps sir.

Ahmed, TG was great, saw a lot of my buddies there. I was able to to meet Dino face to face after many conversations with him over the years. Dino did a great job flying his P-47 to first place in the Pro side of the Pro-Am. A friend of mine took a ton of photos, still getting them ...LOL
To answer your question concerning the landing light brackets. I made them from brass strips that I purchased from the LSH. I then bent them to shape and soldered them together. I then glued wood strips inside the plastic light bezel and used small sheet metal screws to attach the arm to the bezel. I then wound my own spring from thin music wire to push the light down just like the full scale does. See photos concerning the light . The inside of the strut door rubs against the small wooden roller to push the light back up into the wheel well when the gear is retracted just as the full scale does. I found a LED flash light bezel that fit the landing light bezel and installed it in plastic bezel. I had many photos of the landing light taken from the Mustang on display here at the Air Force museum in Dayton, Ohio. "Shimmy IV"

Ahmed, I am tied up with three projects right now, one for myself and two for a customer. I have no Idea how much it would cost in time and material to make more of them. Dino has the plastic landing light shell in a package for the mustang. The materials would be around twenty-twenty five dollars encluding the flash light. Then about five to ten hours at about ten dollars per hour plus shipping. Just a guess to make one of the landing lights. could be less. Did not watch my time during the time I made mine. I also ,made one for the other Mustang but was figured into the labor cost. Too long ago to find it.

$10 an hour...you have to be kidding! Paupers wages for craftsmanship? Gee man where is your pride if nothing else!! Can't be touched for less than $95 an hour for the expertise to create what is required. Get real man, what's the point?Thousands of dollars in an airframe and a $10 light?
