Any Shoestrings out there?

RE: Any SHoestrings out there?
I recovered mine before like a dummy I sold it [:@]. I put it back to the original color. God I loved that plane. Covering isn't that bad if you know how to cover. The curves are a pain, but with a little practice you could do it. I wish that Great Planes would put that plan out again, and NOT WITH A FIBERGLASS FUSE!!!

Wow 150flyer, those look great. Yours too Motorman. Good to see some of these babies still slicing through the air! I still think Great Planes made a huge mistake cancelling this plane! Here's another shot of mine with my co-pilot.

RE: Any SHoestrings out there?
It is the smoothest flying plane I have ever owned, I will never sell it. I ran 10 gallons through a Tower .75 in it last summer. I ran every prop from 11-8's to 13-6's, but prefer 12-7's and 12-8's depending on what flyin I am at. The plane gets attention wherever I take it. I too wish they would bring it back as a laser cut wood arf. I have the new 1/4 scale RV-4 arriving tomorrow, so the Shoe, Midget Mustang, and the RV-4 will be fighting for flying time this summer.
I did get a few spare parts for it though since great planes is slowly running out of parts. I picked up a landing gear and canopy for down the road.

I have an extra cowling for mine.
I'll still be 1st in line if they would build a 1.60 sized verson for it that I can put a 26-40 cc gasser in.

The spare parts are slowly dwindling. All you can get now wheel pants, canopies, tail set, and cowls. The Shoestring I bought when I started this thread went down a few months ago. From the ground it looked like the wood dowels on the front of the wing ripped out, and down she went. So last week I got one used. I cant afford to crash this one, these things are to hard to get your hands on anymore.

My thoughts exactly, though I did manage to buy a NIB version of the smaller ARF a few weeks ago.

If you paid under $300 your lucky. They are very valuable because of the 1/4 scale IMAA status.

Believe it or not, I paid well under $200 for it. I didn't realize that I got such a deal at the time. Thanks! <G>

BULL_RCU,
Looks like Hangar 9 decided to take our request to heart....
80" Sundowner Formula 1 racer - 26-36cc gasser, or 1.60 - 2.10 nitro.

I have one that just found a home in a Cap-X - haven't even flown it yet - oh well. I'm still trying to figure out what I can sell to get one of these on pre-order. I have a Saito 80, 91 and 100 that would probably get me really close, and a couple of airframes that I bet would finance the rest.
Decisions, Decisions.

RE: Any SHoestrings out there?
I flew my Shoestring last Sunday... Went on the web doing some research... Too many planes, but always room for one more... Call my friend who owns the Hobby shop and told him to put my name on the Sundowner when it comes in... Showstring is fun, but old and tired... Time to givve it some rest... Time to upgrade to this beauty...

You talking about the part that glues onto the center of the wing? Your best bet might be to try to build one. I can take a look at mine and see if I can replicate it for you - I'll let you know how it turns out

RE: Any SHoestrings out there?
I know for all practical purposes this thread is dead but I lost my Shoestring about a couple of years ago due to a midair. Hey, some times it just happens. I still miss that plane!! Wish Great Planes do another mfg run of the Shoestring. Was a great all around fun airplane.[]
