RE: Official Hyper 8 Thread
Well the XB8R is Xray cheapest buggy kit. Being I never drove it or the Jammin I can only guess. I would say they are as good as each other or maybe the XB8R just s little better. This is just an opinion.

RE: Official Hyper 8 Thread
Well, I can only tell you the minor limitations of the XB8R as it comes out of the box. In fact I have to admit, much as it pains me, that the Jammin is probably the better spec out of the box. The XB8R has plastic braces (which if you run a very rough technical track is actually an advantage), it also has a plastic centre diff cover for some utterly bizarre reason, as all the other flat parts on the car are carbon fibre. Now here's where it gets interesting. The Jammin uses strong metal parts, where the Xray uses carbon fibre, which makes the XB8R pretty much the lightest buggy on the market (it was nearly a KILO lighter than my Hyper 7). The only things that are not up to the task of racing (out of the box) are the pathetically thin shock towers (they need replacing with TQ jobbies). Everything else is top notch, ready to race.
The XB8R though is intended for the starter racer, it is not trying to be the 'pro' kit as the Jammin is supposed to be. For the equivalent in the Xray line up, you should be looking at the XB8 TQ and the new EC, which in my opinion are better than the jammin. Once again I have to stress, that does not mean they are magically gonna make you faster round the track, I'm just talking quality, materials, durability, design.

This is what I did this weekend. Not the best but I am pleased. One day I will have on that says first. Right now I am 8th over all in the points in my class in the Georgia Championship Series. The plaque in the picture was from the Buggy Jamboree in Loganville where 3 of 8 of the races for the GCS are run.

RE: Official Hyper 8 Thread
I have only been racing seriously for about 4 months and up till then only very little races locally where we wore luck to have 3 or 4 in a class. Now a small race has 10 or 20 in my class or more. My very first race was less then a year ago. My biggest problem is I am 53 and half blind. But I love racing!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I race about 3 weekends out of the month and drive 2 to 4 hours one-way to get there. In the sportsman class anything goes and we have drivers in it that have no business in this class as they have been racing for years. [:@]

Yes it is a STS D21B RBmod engine. I had a stock STS D21B in it with well over 4 gallons on it and my sponsor wanted me to try a modified one. The stock one still runs great and have it for back up.

Being I race sanction racing the rules only let you run a 21 and to be honest if you are racing is all the power you need. If you are going to run the 30 hope your buggy will be able to handle it. I have a 28 for my race Savage as rules only let you run up to a 28. One day I will have one of every type big block STS makes.

RE: Official Hyper 8 Thread
oooh, i am not racing at all. I am actually trying to build the toughest buggie possible for 100% bashing purposes. I think I can try a lot with .30, gear it down/up, whatever, maybe even machine a custom sppur gear that will take all the force needed

RE: Official Hyper 8 Thread
As long as it is a 21 you can run it in sanction races. Not sure about ROAR but Pro series rules you can run anything as long as it is a 21. Where I race goes by Pro Series rules and is becoming the majority standard.
It is not the spur gear I would worry about it is the other drive train parts. Been through all that when I put the OS 18 TZ in my MT. In the end was not worth it as it is WAY too much power for it. Spent more on the drive train then I did the $200 engine.

RE: Official Hyper 8 Thread
Now keep in mind my MT is 1/10 scale and I put an engine it that has as much HP as some big blocks. I had to put hardened gears in the diffs, JB weld some metal 14mm hex in the wheels and get aluminum diff housings to keep them from flexing and chewing up the gears. What buggy are you thinking about put the STS 30 in?
You can allways try it and see what happens.

All good buggies and most should hold up fairly well with a STS 30 in it. You will more then likely get to understand the meaning of TO MUCH POWER. You all so will do a good stress test on what ever you put it in.

lol, oh ya. I think it will be pretty fun (might get a little frustrating) to make/put together the strongest possible setup. But without a doubt fun!

RE: Official Hyper 8 Thread
sorry, i got a fairly common question here (but couldnt find an answer through searching). Is Jammin kit better than Hyper8 kit all stock?
Its probably is but whats better about it?
