Thank you, Bob for filling in!

Vasek, a lot of txt, but actually easy to learn how to fuel your twin-bubbless-tank Patriot with the Jett tanker

Lycka till! (Good luck) /Henrik

ANy flight reports on this setup? I am about 1/2 way done with my PAtriot .40. Still awaiting the Jett 60LX to ship. SHould get it here in the next week or so. I think I am also going to go with the 8oz and 12oz bubbless tanks in parallel. I will be sending an email to Dubb to add it to my order.

No, no progress on the P yet. am too busy on real life projects [:@]

but i did get a 6 oz slim INSTEAD of the standard 8 oz for up front (to have more room for the retract) not installed yet

i believe 18 oz will give me enough flight time (for the 60 LX)

You know the procedure...." I will only test it on the ground". It usually goes all the way
It did!
It was a nearly total success. A click of down elevator and left aileron. The only thing that bothers me is that the engine only reached 15,500 on the 10X10 apc...
I took off at 14,900, and it took of more easily than with the old rossi .53.
In the air it felt faster than I can remember it was with the rossi! and this with a fat white smoketrail, the Jett was a bit rich.
It was wonderful to fly it again!!

10x10? Seriously...? Is this the Patriot XL and Jett-90? Try an 11x8...

Okay nevermind I looked at your above pic and it looks like the 40 size...Is that right?

OK I went back and read Methanol's plans....Jett-90 on the smaller Patriot. The guy from the Jett hall of fame used a prop. that was cut-down BIG TIME! I think it was like an 8x12 or something? And he apparently had great results---

I would gete with Bob on this...

WHat retracts are those? They look sweet..

Great to hear your taxi/flight went well. What kind of flight time did you get with the parallel tanks?

Thank you Brothers! Glad you likes it.

90LX! 40 size Patriot. It should turn the 10*10 16' so I will have to investigate that! Maby I have too long fuel-lines, tank feed-lines are uncut before the tee, and then there is a loop around the homemade filling-hatch, after that another loop to the NV/A .There is a like a 4-stroke-needle-turning-latency[sm=75_75.gif]. I guess the engine doesn't get the amount of fuel it need to burn to reach top rpm.

Fuelconsumtion was 8,5min on 20 Oz on teststand fairly rich setting 16' on a 10*7 . Flight count down timer is set to 7min. to allow for some go arounds.

The retracts are Eurokit air operated legs are: http://www.eurokit.us/closeup.asp?ci...d=665&offset=2 gives me very sweet landings!

I beleive Mr Holmes in Jett HoF cutt a 12*12 to 9,5 or 9,75. But from our grass field I guess 10" is the one.

Today i flew my Rifle to see if I could feel how fast Patriot was yesterday,,,, but what I defenitely can tell, is that there are muchy more power than it was with the Rossi!! It accelerates much faster and delivers more speed to take off at.

The engine + the repairs and mods made it over 12 Oz heavier!! weighing in at 7½ Ibs, but it doesn't feels heavier. I'm very pleased with this ship and it's handling and looks in the air!
I'm really looking forward to unleash at 15,500 instead of 14,900[sm=tongue_smile.gif]

Maby I have too long fuel-lines
Maybe too small an internal diameter ? I would have used 3mm ...

That looks great !

15.5K rpm is ok .... that is pretty much where it should be (what fuel are you using?) It will get better with more flight time. Find peak, back off around 500-600 rpm or so just as you have been doing. The moment the plane gets in the air it will hit 16+ easily... and needs the bit of extra fuel.

Of note on the side exhaust 90LX ....... the muffler tuning is going to max out just over 16K rpm. So your current rpm and prop load are about correct.

The stock 10x10 usually works nicely. I am not sure about cutting the 11x12 down.... but might make a good experiment. If you do this, trim the diameter so the engine runs around 14,800 to 15,000 at peak ground rpm.

If ground clearance is available, try the regular full blade 11x8.

Thanks Bob!!

I use 15+3 oil , 15 nitro and a Merlin plug. Noticed today on Jett's site that OS F was recommended! why? my LX performs exceptional as is.
I have a pair of 12*12 laying around, will experiment with them later!

BTW, that Webra air intake filter I asked you about on Jett supp forum the other day, did not seem to reduce rpm!, strange, as intake area must be divided by 2 , at least!!. But needle had to be leaned a bit. I took it off when I took the decision to fly.

Thanks for the info... sounds like you are doing ok there.

The merlin plugs work very well..... correct heat range. They are very good plugs.

Sometimes folks find that some other plugs result in a rich midrange transition. The F-plugs cure most of that, and are very hot plugs. Thus the recommendation if one choose to replace the plug.

Get some more air time on the engine And enjoy the airplane !

Bob

Hi Guys, new to the forums here.
I just pulled out my old patriot 40 after 10yrs and need some help.

CG marks were cleaned off the wing... ooops! lol
Any setup info would be great.

I'm looking forward to getting out again after so long.
I have a laser 200 I'm flying this weekend to get up to speed
before taking the patriot out.
Sweet mods Methanolover!!

Thx tarite!
I have the Patriot plan on the wall here in my bedroom.... [sm=bananahead.gif] CG is 8½"+-0,35"

Havn't flown it more than the maiden. Weather has been either too hot [sm=drowning.gif]or to windy...

I need advise on good hot plugs to try. I've been using the K&B plugs with and without idle bars for my Jett 90 and OS91/Jettstream muffler for hot runs. K&B's are ok except for some rich sound at midrange until the idle setting is weaned to lean side, but not to point of flame out regularly. Anyway, heard of OS F plug suggestion and will try that. I've tried Mccoy #59 and thought that was not as durable as the K&B. Have not tried Mccoy #8 yet. Any other plug brands to consider? Odonnell, Fox that Tower carries?

Thanks for the quick reply, I feel much better now!
I moved the tank back behind f2 and removed lead from
the tail so she needed to be re-balanced.
Engine is an old OSMAX SFABC-P with os pump
using APC 10x7 with TrueTurn spinner.
Fixed gear, wish I would have installed retracts.
I'll post a pic when I get it together.

Do the plans give the recommended CS throws?
I think the ailerons were 1/4 " and the
elevator was like 5/8" but not to sure.

A shaky video.... http://www.rcuvideos.com/user/TWBTW0HMNMY34G00

Have some 15 flights on it now and it's getting better and better! take off and vertical perform are fantastic! It definitely calls for "shifting gear" now.
I have a 12X12 to be cut. I'll start with 9,75" and see what rpm I get[>:]

First run, obviously lean. Blew a plug. Deadstick [:'(] but was lucky.

Second run, richened the needle but was still a bit lean after a few minutes in the air[X(] , some fuel line must have kinked or something... Going to shop now , will pull the the tanks out and find out why.
