Default 40 Size Uproar Fuel Tank

According the plans it says mount a 6-8oz fuel tank, the biggest I can fit is a 6oz, I have tried a few different manufacturers...my question is has anyone been able to fit an 8oz tank in an 40 size Uproar? If so which one?

thanks!

I believe all of mine were 6 OZ. You really do not need any more than that. With throttle management you should be able to get at least 15 minutes.

Thats what I had in mine until the mid air with a U Can Do .60. Even if you run out and are high enough you should be able to deadstick her in with that thick airfoil. Its like my flight instructor used to " you can't go wrong with a Uproar". Here a couple pics you might enjoy.

He we go! I love the way it flies...the engine is a brand new 46AX and running on the rich side so I know it's sucking more fuel than it will when broken in...so maybe then I can get longer than about 8 minutes on it...

You mean full throttle all the time isn't considered throttle management?

I've been using a 6 and waiting 6 monthes for Great Planes to resume making their 8oz, it's the only 8 that will fit Uproar/Dazzler, I think the it's part #4143 but it's been so long I may be wrong.

Bill,

I fit an 8 oz Sullivan Flexi RST style in the 3 that I built. I took a lesson from a Solo Sport trainer. Drill a 1" hole through the firewall, so that the tank sticks into the hole. The engine mount strengthens the firewall anyway. A little padding on the tank will seal up the hole.

I also had to remove around 1/8 of the leading edge of the wing in the center.

I love the extra capacity.

The OS 46AX I have on my Fun 51 runs 10 minutes on a 4oz tank flying mostly 3D, well the 3D it will do. I chose a small tank to help keep it light. AUW is 4.1lb.

BSARGE, nice covering job. There's a pic of my Fun 51 built almost 4 years ago in my avatar, it's being demoted to my kids now in favor of an OMP Boxxer bipe.

I had the same problem finding a tank. The great planes 8 ounce is the only one I have found that will fit. It's tight so make sure the fuel lines are not crimped. I don't know how comfortable you are with mounting a tank that has no foam protection from the fuse sides. I had very little padding around the tank, but I never had a problem with leaks or whatever problems foam pads are supposed to protect tanks from.
I got a 55 AX to upgrade with. Since there is extra fuel consumption I am thinking of putting a 4oz Tettra bladder tank in series with the GP 8oz. With the large pressures tettra tanks generate I don't think I will have a problem with flow. The tettra will be mounted maybe in the canopy I don't know. Any thoughts?

Hey I found a way to put more fuel on the uproar. A tettra tank cannot be plumbed in series. So I decided to get a 6ounce and a 4ounce dubro fuel tank. I mounted the 6ounce comfortably behind the firewall, but I put the 4ounce under the canopy. I plumbed them in series. I reinforced the balsa under the canopy with plywood from the die cut sheet the servo tray came from. This would supply a strong place to mount the tank on. The height that the 4 ounce was mounted above the engine didn't cause to much fuel to back up into the muffler when the engine wasn't running. It works great and with the 55AX I have about 11 minutes of flight time full throttle.

A total of 12 ounces can be utilized with a 6 up front and a 6 in back. The tank can be conveniently located on or behind the CG for balance corrections.

I'm building a Dazzler ARF and would like to have 8 oz tank instead of 6 oz. I've used the Sullivan flex tanks before but wonder if when you squeeze it down, if you don't actually lose volume. Is the GP 8 oz available now?

BTW, I have an Uproar 60 with a Saito 100. Had to have a 1" longer gear made to clear the 15 x 6 prop. It's a lot of fun to fly. Won't stop taxiing because of the thrust. Almost 2 to 1 thrust to weight ratio.

Steve
