Honestly Vess didn't do that much for me.. although I was running the B series on my 60. I also went from a 22B to a Xoar 23x8. The 23x8 was a much better combo and woke the motor up.

I was just going to try and get a Mej. since that is what they are using on that DA-85 .. figured could get some closer comparable numbers that way. I like the PTs though because they are lighter.

I am still torn.. I was just going to get a 26x10 Xoar.. although abellrc was kind enough to ship me 2 27x10 Xoars that had clearly been dropped and landed right on the tip. I love when hobby shops do that.

based on the numbers --if it transitions well and stays cool you are ok
more power should show up if you run a prop load which is around -- low/mid 6000 rpm--- cool-- on the ground

the brand name and what the prop looks like does not mean much - basically -look at the ground rpm --IF the pitch is close to a ten.
sounds like it is working well!
Why the Lawnboy oil?
did the 3W guys recommend it?
I see no need for that stuff on modern engine designs.

ya a 26x10 will put me right in that range... It's def pulling well for the rpm.. hovering / rolling harriers reaction is great.

3W said to use an ashless oil for the first 2-3 hrs run time. They also recommend high octane gas pref 98... of course we dont have 98 so I grabbed 92. They want 30 or 32:1 I couldnt see doing any less than 32:1

I made up 2 gallons... I will prob burn that through and then go to Penzoil 50:1 and be done with it.

For once I thought I would follow their directions properly. First engine manual I have read front to back It did help though... ignition claims 4.8-8.4 but they want you to run 6.0v

Wow- No one reads manuals today!
Unfortunately
The 98 oct is European thing - forget it - simply not available here . 91-93 is best I ever see now.
I am really surprised they say use the ashless - but- so be it . if temps are kept under control-- any of the oils are fine .
I use the 32-1 Mobil or similar stuff as it runs clean in the engine (dirty out the exhaust )
keep at it-- i am interested in seeing how it all plays out.

I run 91 octane in my 3W 80 with Yamalube 2-R Semi-Synthetic premix. 40-1. Runs very nice.

I had a problem with my high speed needle backing out in flight causing the motor to go rich. I simply lengthened the spring a little ( stretched it ) and all's well.

If you are turning 6000 with a 27-10 thats good. I would be happy with that. Mine started to wake up after a few Gallons. Did not get much stronger on the top end but the midrange came alive.

If i remember correctly, my 3W-80xi with mounting plate, ignit and muffler came out right around 6 lbs 4 oz as well. Whats the da-85's comparable weight?

Well I have tweaked my plane in a bit over 9 flights..

Tomorrow I plan to shoot some video of this baby so you can see how it performs... calling for possible rain and 20-30 mph winds we will see.

yeah those 27 xoar can be a prop to turn on a new motor. I have a converted bme 111 that use to be a bme 100. i have 3 gallons on the motor. I fired it up with a 27 x 10 xoar and vess 27a, new I could only get 5700-5800 on both of those props. Luckly I have a Mejzlik lying around to bolt on there and let her spin up. I could do 6750 on that prop. I can now do 6950 on it after landing. I still have a few more gallons to run. I break all my motors in on Penzoil air cooled oil. I have not rebolted those older props back on there.

I had the 26 x 10 on the motor when it was a BME-100 spinning this same prop in the 6200-6300RPM. I wanted to freshen up the motor as it needed rings and I ask Keith at BME about converting the motor over to get more power. He told me he could use my pistons and jugs and install new rings and the entire bottom end of the BME-115 to there to increase my stroke to a 111. As you can see from the below pics. This was a 650.00 conversion that I am just loving. I am looking to go up to a higher sized Mejzlik once I get more gallons on it. This is on a BG Ultimate so it doesn't get taken to the field as quick as a mono plane for the time factor of putting together with flying wires. The ultimate had great power for this bird being when it was a 100. I also liked the chance and getting more bolts on the prop hub. Its def crazy power now even while breaking in. I am very pleased wtih Mejzlik and Vess props in my trying of prop on various gas planes. I did fly the plane with the Vess 27A and it was a stump pulling prop. I just felt I better let the motor spin up while its breaking/seating that ring on that 1st gallon. TNT also made me some new gear as it was to close on those larger props now that I had room to move up as time goes on....

Well the weekend is approaching .. 10-15 mph winds.. looks like I will get to share some initial video with you guys. I am still running a Xoar 27x10 but I am hoping I will have a Mej 26x10 by the next weekend to share some numbers on a 26x10.

I have 9 flights on it so far and it's pulling this 24.5 pound plane around like nothing. The original weight was 24.28 pounds and I put in the 5oz ignition battery for a final weight.. dont have the exact number and my head hurts right now to do the math

I am also close to sharing with you that I may have a surprise as part of this review.. will know more next week

Well the video guy had a wedding today... apparently the whole world decided to have a wedding today... they were everywhere. Tomorrow is the day.

However.. I finally got a 26x10 Prop (PT Models) on this baby. I have 15 flights on the plane / engine as of last flight today. After an 18 min flight that ended with about 1 min of hovering I landed her and tached it. 6500 was the numbers. I am set at 200 off of peak and she is running like a champ. Cold I can turn 6700 no probs on it.

It was very humid today and 95F all day and on the last flight I varied from 3D stuff to WOT KE passes and snaps.

After tomorrow I will be switching from Lawnsludge 32:1 to Penzoil 50:1 breaking this engine in like the book for once.

I would have to say at this point the 3w-85XI will def. give the DA a run for it's money with the 3W CS version beating the DA. I wll know more once I get a DA in my hands I almost wish I had spent the extra 100 for the CS version just to see

I found that the PT 26x10 dropped my rpms from the mejzlik 26x10 by about 200-250 rpms on my 3W 80. Its a bit more load. With the mejzlik you should be up around 6600-6700 no prob I believe. I think the DA numbers on the mejzlik 26x10 were 6400 or so.

Interesting to know... I did notice out of hover pull out it's a bit weak now. I was considering trying a Vess after all again to see what it was like on a bigger motor. The one I used was a 22B. I will also be getting a Mej as well.

Someone at my field wants to buy my 85 after seeing it fly so much. He isn't really saving any money on it but it's dialed in perfect and runs great so he just wants to skip the intial setup / tuning time. I am considering letting it go and grabbing a CS just so I can see what it does. AI says 200 more rpms

Unfortunately no video once again... I did training from 10-1 and then 3 mins into my first flight my canopy hatch decided to break loose! With a nice cross wind to my back it blew my canopy a good 700'+ into the woods. After going out twice I finally found it in the middle of a field behind our woods... let's just say I wasn't happy.

Warbirds over Delaware is this weekend so I wont be able to fly much this week or at all on the weekend... maybe Sunday night. I promise to have some video soon though!

Sinergy, the only props I like from vess are the A series. Just my .02 but on the 50cc engines the 23A was the ticket and on the 80s the 26A. I had the prototype 26" props and tried them all, but came back to the A hands down. Awesome 3D prop. For imac type flying I would probably say a mejzlik 26x10 was the best, but did not have the low end pulling power of the vess by far.

Cool.. well I look forward to it. In a 24.5 pound plane the pull out is there.. but would like a bit more. Verticle is almost accelerates with a PT 26x10 Just pull out of hover is lacking compared to how I think it can be with this engine

Just remember, its going to take that motor a lot of gas to really wear in, it will only get better.
